Very nice piece of furniture! Also enjoyed the personal feel to the video. No paid promotions, no sponsors, just you and your wife, your skills, and your tools doing something very special for a family member. Keep up the great work!
I am so happy you enjoyed it Daniel! We truly had a great time making this desk for my sister-in-law and hopefully it's something she can use for many years to come :) Thank you for watching!
I’m in the process of building my own l shaped desk. I really appreciate your video, though I would have really liked to see the whole process. Fully🤝👊🏽
Ntandoyenkosi Kubheka thank you! And good luck on your build! If you have any questions on parts I didn’t show, I’d be happy to answer them! Just let me know :)
Oh yea, I can’t even fit a car in my garage anymore because of all the woodworking equipment hahaha! I do run a vac on each piece of equipment though and I have an air filtration system running as well. That has helped a ton to cut down on the sawdust that ends up on stuff in the shop/garage. 👍🏻
Hello! My dad and I are trying to build this desk for me and I can't find a website with a materials list or cut list. I know its been a while since you posted this but do you have those lists still? Thanks in advance and great video!
My main inspiration was from Handmade Haven by Ashley Basnight! Look for her L Shaped Double X Desk. It’s very large so you may need to scale it down some. I know I had to play with the dimensions some. Thanks for watching and best of luck to you! Let me know how it goes!!!
I sanded the base with 80 then 120 then 150. I then used milk paint on it. It did a good job and adhered very well! Thanks for watching! I hope it was helpful!
do you plane and joint the wood before you make this? or does it come usable? if so, where do you get the wood from? love the desk and wanted to try it out
I did plain and joint the top for this, but I have made several similar desks where I did not have a jointer or planer and it worked out fine. You just have to be careful when picking out your lumber and get straight pieces. Take your time and spend an hour picking good boards and you’ll save yourself a headache later. I got this wood from Home Depot and Lowes. Just used pine and whitewood. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed the video! Good Luck with your desk and share it with us when you’re done! :)
I'm so glad you found this video inspiring and helpful! So the height of the desk from floor to the top of the tabletop is 30". The X box legs on the end are approx. 20" wide by 28.5" tall. The main length of this table was 58" long and 21" wide. The L-portion of the desk was 23" long and 21" wide (so the total width of the desk at the L-shaped portion was approx. 42". I will have my website up soon with blog posts on each project and some pictures to help you follow along. Be sure to subscribe to my channel and I'll make sure I mention when the site is up and running! I have several more big projects coming in 2020 that are already in the works (you can see glimpses of those already over on Instagram)! Thanks again so much and I hope I was able to help you out!
Thank you Daniel! Yes, absolutely! I used steel wool to take the gloss look off of it and give it a more satin look and feel. I’m so glad you enjoyed the build and the table!
I made this desk to be 58” long and 21” deep for the long portion. And then the “L” portion I made to be 23” long and also 21” deep. So 42” deep altogether and 58” long. I hope that made sense haha! Thanks for watching!
Hahaha! I'm sure she would appreciate that as well! Mostly woodworking is a cathartic exercise for me. I sit in front of a screen all day for my real job, so being able to work with my hands makes for a great hobby :) And if I get to make some really cool stuff for family and friends, then that is just a bonus! Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed it :)
Is this inspired by, or a copy of Build It Better's video? If so, you should really link and credit them. No a haven't watched the video, so you might have, I just know it isn't anywhere in the discretion.
Hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment here! No, this was not inspired or copied from Build It Better. I hadn’t seen his version of the L Desk until actually a couple days ago. If you watch my video there are quite a few things I did differently in my build. I actually really like his idea of making the back leg an X as well and if I were copying him, I definitely would have done that! Haha! Also I started building this desk before he published his video. In the video I talk about how my mother was coming down in July to pick it up and that was at the end of May and he didn’t publish his video until the end of June. Also, in my video I was planning on putting a drawer in the front, but I ran out of time :( There are several free plans out there for generic farmhouse desks and a lot of people take those and make them their own. You can usually find some good inspiration from Pinterest (what I did for this one). But thank you again for taking the time to comment and I assure you if I leverage something from someone specifically, I will always give them credit (I usually give a link and a shout-out in my video). I really dislike when people don’t give the proper credit too. Have a great day!
Mac_ Oda I actually have never seen that channel or any of their videos, but we probably all drew inspiration from the same builds on blogs and Pinterest. Nothing is completely original, especially farmhouse style furniture, hahaha! Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy (Fight Club??) :)
What do you think about farmhouse style furniture? Would you be interested in adding farmhouse pieces to your home?
Yes.
Very nice piece of furniture! Also enjoyed the personal feel to the video. No paid promotions, no sponsors, just you and your wife, your skills, and your tools doing something very special for a family member. Keep up the great work!

I would happen to agree ;)
Dude's so professional he has an shop aprom, nice desk man
Victor Hugo haha thanks!
Yea the apron has saved me on numerous occasions from getting wood glue on my clothes haha!
@@BentleyDesignCo I have "work shirts", they are full of saw dust, the washing machine is not so found it of :p
I listen to a lot of BFS when I am in the shop too brother!
Right on man!
I jam out and sing and get a lot of weird looks from the neighbors haha! But I don't care, just enjoying myself! :)
How much did it cost to make this?
At the time, < $100.
This was before COVID and horrible inflation though, so now it would probably cost about 50% more.
I’m in the process of building my own l shaped desk. I really appreciate your video, though I would have really liked to see the whole process. Fully🤝👊🏽

Did I make a mistake here? I can’t catch it haha
Well done partner
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the build!

I'm so happy my video was helpful!
I hope you make a beautiful desk!
nice work on the build and the video
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I love my desk! 💗💗💗 Thank you!
So happy we could make it happen for you!
My wife would kill me if I used miter saw while her car was still parked in garage
Oh yea, I can’t even fit a car in my garage anymore because of all the woodworking equipment hahaha!

How fine did you sand those frame parts in order to get a good smooth paint job 80,120?
I sanded the base with 80 then 120 then 150. I then used milk paint on it.
It did a good job and adhered very well!

great work man!
Thanks so much Adrian! I'm glad you liked it! My sister-in-law is still using this desk and loves it!

I wish you were my relative lol , but seriously bro fantastic job
Thank you so much!
She loved it and it has already made it through two moves unscathed!
Hopefully it’ll hold up for a long long time :)
Is it possible to give the dimensions used for this desk, trying to attempt it. Very lovely build.
I'm so glad you found this video inspiring and helpful!

Sorry It's hard to hear what you said at the end... did you say steel wool to give it a satin feel?... table looks great!
Thank you Daniel! Yes, absolutely! I used steel wool to take the gloss look off of it and give it a more satin look and feel.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the build and the table!
This is gorgeous! New subscriber!! 😊❤️
Thank you so much! I appreciate that! :)
I'm glad you like it!
What is the dimensions of this desk?
I made this desk to be 58” long and 21” deep for the long portion. And then the “L” portion I made to be 23” long and also 21” deep. So 42” deep altogether and 58” long.
I hope that made sense haha!
Thanks for watching!
Oh and approximately 31.5” tall to the top of the desktop!
If my had a sister, I could see me just buying a gift card to Crate and Barrel. My time is way too valuable.
Hahaha! I'm sure she would appreciate that as well!

Actually you and Build it Better copied the design from Robin Lewis Makes channel from 2 years ago
Mac_ Oda I actually have never seen that channel or any of their videos, but we probably all drew inspiration from the same builds on blogs and Pinterest.
