Great casting for "a gear fisherman", LOL. Much respect for not blowing a spot up with names and locations. Wish all youtube "experts' had that ethic. Tight lines
Cool video! I'm a teacher too and have a tradition of smallie fishing on the last day of school. Great to see you out there doing the same. Can't wait for mine and my sisters trip with you on July 13th!
Love your video! I have yet to fly fish the UP, but if you could put the links in the description where to purchase the flies you’re using, after reading Earnest Hemingway’s Big Two Hearted River, I would be more than happy to make the drive and hit the water with you. 😇
@m.h.english4773 Howdy, man. I am not sure of the ones I used in this video. I think maybe the CK baitfish and Tequeely fly. Both are fun little streamers when the streamer bite is working!
@Chris Barnett Yeah, I know. I probably fly fished like 30-40% of my personal trips this year. I didn't get out much but I did do a bit on the fly. Definitely feeling more confident with it!
"Let's be honest. When it comes to fly fishing, I am not the best fly fisherman.", said the guy catchin' all the smallies on a fly...Catching fish is fun, no matter how you do it, or what gear you own/use!
@Peter Essex I totally agree. However, I don't want people to assume I am some pro on RUclips. It's easier to be honest and down to earth with people. I know some things but have much more to learn. Thanks for the comment!
Just came across this after fly fishing lower taquaminan falls. I caught my first smallest and a nice brown trout on a wooly bugger and a bunny mudler. The fish were an hour between each other probably because there was a lot of kids splashing in the water. Was a beautiful place to fish on vacation and was glad to finally fight a smallie
@thomascurry9218 It's hard to tell - some years it swings violently in each direction depending on snow. Spring in general can be okay if the waters are not too high.
@Nick Wray For sure! I generally do - some of those situations I didn't want the sink tip to snag the bottom so I brought the rod up quite high. I know it looked goofy but I didn't want to snag up in 10 inches of water.
Great video, brother and tremendous smallie action! The UP is definitely on my bucket list for bass and pike.
@TheADDFiles-yk4dc Thank you. I definitely love the smallies. The pike... I am only so-so on! :)

@JJM It took me a few years to realize the importance, but I believe full heartedly in protecting the areas now.

@Rich Reszka The last day of school is sacred, eh? :) I am looking forward to our trip!
Great Video!
Good to see you out throwing the fly.
@Dustin Hinds It's rare, but it happens :)
Man looks.like you had an incredible day chasing smallmouth on the fly!
@Rob Brown Oh, yeah! They are a blast.
Diggin' this!!!! What an epic day....I travel a lot for my work, maybe one day I'll book a trip!
@The tummies Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and information. Thanks
@John Dozier I am glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!

We’ll done on the fly Benjamin. It’s hard to pull out the fly rod sometimes. Not an easy thing, but so satisfying when you finally hook up.

Fun stuff!
@Big Fish Thanks, man!

@America First That's cool that you got a brown on the Tahq! Very cool.
The shade and sun line on the water creates structure.
@Doug Williams Very interesting. Right on.
nice!
@Aaron Soto Glad you like it!
When does the river smallmouth fishing start heating up up there?
@thomascurry9218 It's hard to tell - some years it swings violently in each direction depending on snow. Spring in general can be okay if the waters are not too high.
What rod length/weight are you using?
@Chris Warren I think it's a 9 foot 8wt. You can also do a 7wt for smallies but I wouldn't go lower on river fish.
@@HaightsWanderings Thanks for the info, great video!
@@ChiefPocololo For sure!
Haight is my Spanish teacher
@Gregory Scheibe Hi there! Hola!
I am bring more smaller poppers for next week. Got to fish the fly a little more.
@Jim D Sounds groovy! Let's do it!
What is the name of that fly
@Ian cameron I think it's called the CK Baitfish.
@@HaightsWanderings were did you buy them here in Michigan
@@iancameron1662 Tightlines and Mad River Outfitters, both are online.
One tip for you is keep your rod tip low. Like in the water low
