I was taught in the 90s (first cycling club) car up (behind), car down (coming from the front). Found it confusing at first, then realised it’s like a train, you walk ‘down’ a train to the rear carriage, you walk ‘up’ the train to get to the front carriage. That was my way of remembering it at first 😊
Thank you for another video full of joy. You got pretty filthy! Really impressive to meet the guy who started cycling regularly at 62 “because my son bought me a bike”. Brilliant.
A great ride with top people. Steve is an inspiration, as are you both Amy and Kyle. I always like to get covered in spray when the weather is shite. I clip on a back mudguard if it's really wet, but otherwise no. I ride solo mostly so I don't really get a telling off by the mudguard police 😂😂
Started riding road bikes at 70. Still enjoying nice fast rides on my Trek Madone as I approach 77 (indoors on my Wahoo direct drive during our impossible Canadian winters)
Nige!!!!!!!!! I agree with one of your other posters on this page. You have excellent skills in featuring new riders who participate in group rides with you and Kyle. Maybe during the Christmas ride next week, spend more time with some of your club members. Highlight their perspective on cycling, how it’s improved their lives and moreover how it’s changed them as a person. Content like yours is interesting to people whom have never traveled to the United Kingdom. You’re bridging that gap and representing for your community. Very powerful stuff when you consider the amount of content on RUclips that is pure opinion and shallow in nature. Be safe and I agree, get those mud guards on. Most of all, be safe. I watched your previous feature on Winnets pass (sp?) and those steep sections combined with heavy traffic and unsupported weather shook my nerves.
@@amy.cycling.adventuresSKS Raceblades. The brackets stay on the bike and the guards just clip on. Once they're fitted it's honestly seconds to remove the mudguard.
@@htukmumfiethey are good but I recommend getting extra bike protection tape to avoid the Speed rockers rubbing. I found the front mudguard difficult though!
Nice ride Amy! Btw, what model Met helmets do you both use? I'm in need to upgrade and would like your suggestions please..also have you ever seen/heard about the Bluetooth helmets made by Sena? Thx
Amy, I love your videos I’m also a cyclist too!! I’m thinking of doing my first ever bike packing/bike touring on my own it will either be cycling aboard somewhere or some somewhere in the UK so my question is what do I need to expect on my first ever bike packing? Also any tips would be appreciated. Thank you
We say "Car Up" for vehicle coming from the front and "Car Back" for a vehicle coming from behind. Works well for us. If it's a big / dangerous vehicle, we might say "truck" up/back or even "trailer" if it's towing something so people know it's more than a simple vehicle. We say the same thing for other riders or walkers. So rider/walker up or back. But the most important thing is explaining the lingo to riders so everyone knows what it means. We don't have to say anything when riding with our regulars. But with new people, we usually explain on the way or ahead of time. :)
Not a set of mudguards in sight? It's compulsory in our group for winter riding to protect the rider behind from getting splashed from your back wheel.
Right Kyle, Amy needs mudguards for Christmas 🎄🎁🎁 because it looked like she had an accident that nobody wants on a ride!! Amy! What can you get Kyle for Christmas now? He has got his new bike helmet!!!! Oh men, they can't wait can they! Having presents early, that's not right! 😂😂😂🚴♀️🚴🏻♂️ Great content as always from you two, keep cycling ❤
Right at the beginning of this video Amy you say about Kyle wearing a Christmas outfit -his face!!!!! Good luck getting him to wear it in next week’s instalment Return of the Nigel - great stuff as ever keep these videos coming x
If there is anything I have learned from watching Brit RUclips bike channels, it is: 1. Brits are obsessed with mudguards / fenders, and 2. the bike helmet as fashion statement is some kind of weird cultural phenomenon that I rarely see in other countries - not even other European countries. I am convinced you guys even bathe and watch Tv at night with your helmets on. For years, I was convinced that the GCN presenters must somehow be contractually obligated to always wear their helmets 24/7/365 (perhaps to help promote the idea of always wearing them) as they are seen wearing their helmets at the oddest times like indoors, 45 minutes before and after a ride.... but now I am thinking its more akin to a fashion thing that really caught on in the UK where Brits even wear helmets while eating indoors. Yes. I know "helmet hair" is a thing. Nobody likes helmet hair, and I understand people are bashful about going into a store with messy hair.... but... I dont know... the rest of the world does not have a problem with this. Just freshen yourself up first, then go inside without the helmet on. 3. Baked beans for breakfast.
I would suggest anyone wanting to start club riding at any age. Start with a slower group, say 10-12 mph. Look at Cycling UK or British Cycling rides in the local area to you. If in the UK.
Theres an app for Garmin that called "My Bike Radar Traffic". It records passing vehicle's speed, distant, speed when they pass you and more. It was developed by someone that was hit by a car while bike riding. When I heard you say you were hit by a car, I thought me might like this app, if you don't already have it. Theres a great RUclips video on it also. Stay safe.
When calling out cars on a group ride, I've only ever heard "car back" of "car front" ... _car up/down_ is confusing & makes no sense, _especially_ if "up" means behind
Starting riding and racing at 62 is incredible - a great example of why cycling is the best sport for longevity
Couldn't agree more! 🙌
Not doing that in 60s 😢
amy you are always so happy and full of energy . great footage love following you and your adventures

Mudguards. Best thing since sliced bread.
🤣 the comment that I was looking
Steve is a legend and I aspire to still be riding at 76.
Totally agree!! Absolute legend 🙌

so many riders with no mudguards on!!!!
Crazy!!!!!
Looked a great ride Amy and Kyle ❤
Nice ride. Mudguards keep you and your bike much cleaner
No mudguards and you're riding at the back with my club.
Yes got to get them on - having trouble finding some that fit my road tyres and gravel tyres don’t want to have to take them on and off all the time 😅
what about sks speedrocker? pretty sturdy and take up to 42mm.

Mudguards are a must for the UK winter riding in a group guys. 🙂
Amy, you should do a series interviewing other cyclists from different backgrounds while you are on a ride together. You are great at it!
Ahh thanks ☺️ I do love finding out about people 🙌

Your videos are fantastic!!!!
Sticky Winter lane mud always gives the bike a good speckle effect.
I always say car back for a car behind or car front for one ahead and car through if it's overtaking

Yes you can! Cycling is adventure and get fitter each ride

Welcome back to another exciting episode of cafe misadventures
😂😂
Car back and car front for us! What make is your hi viz band - could do with one of those….
Merry Christmas pretty Amy. Ride safe always.
Thank you! You too!
If you're looking for mud guards Amy use the assaver very cheap and cost-effective and very easy to take on and off
What a fun looking ride except for the mud. New sub and liked.
Ahh thanks so much! Yes we need to put our mudguards on 🤦♀️
Love your cycling community ❤
So do we 🤍

Don’t worry the outfit is here and he’s agreed to wear it 🙌😂
@@amy.cycling.adventures well now that you've told us here on the internet, he has no choice but to wear it 🙃
Great video. I liked your mud freckles
Amy and Kyle. Lovely people. Allez allez.
Thanks!! ☺️
Yep-two of the best!
Great cycling Chester looking well you will have to get him a bike haha.

Congratulations on a great ride!🎉
Thank you so much 😀
That'll ding dang do for this Mandingo!
Great fun! Well done!
Thank you 🤗
Kyle aka...Captain Slack Bladder strikes again😂
Where is that cafe?
It’s in Hope - The Grasshopper Cafe ☺️
@amy.cycling.adventures incorrect. That was the video before. I know you was in the hopper from the previous one haha.
I agree you are never too young.... I just wished I stated when I was even younger.
Legend…..Steve Moorcroft!
Total legend 🙌🙌
76 isn’t old, you’ve met Ride with Roy haven’t you?! 😄
Up here we say tail for car behind. Head for car in front.
So because I did 58 miles on Saturday you had to do 60?😉I looked the same as you, splattered in mud😂Steve is some guy, started cycling at 62 wow!
Haha couldn’t resist a round up! Yes awesome
'car on the nose' or 'car on the tail' around here, or more normally just 'nose!' or 'tail!'
why no Mudguards on your bikes in this bad weather

@tommydonald9013
cute but weird but cute
Agreed
lol u would `nt be muddy if everybody had mudguards on including u!!
You see, you wouldn't get so muddy if you put mud guards on😊
UK club rule of ‘mudguards or no ride’ mostly died
Kyle needs some overshoes 😅
He has some 🤦♀️ didn’t put them on! 😂
Always remember, when in the country, that's not just mud. Just saying...😉
😂
Get yourself some shoe covers 😊
Car back! - meaning car at the back. Car Up! - meaning car up the road.
You should have done 62.14 miles thats 100km which sounds better
True but I was tired 😂😂
Great ride guys i don’t bother with mudguards I just use a cheep ass saver on and off in seconds .keeps me cheeks a bit dryer lol 🫶🏻👍🤣
