I thought maybe another chemical could need adding to further stabalise the solid for long term storage, but you remedied that effectively with a vacuum drying cycle. I'd chuck a bag of freshly baked dry silica beads in the jar with it to capture any moisture from air when bits are removed too :)
Bacteria and pathogens in the water are not an issue, you need water without any mineral ions. You can use distilled water, demineralized water and deionized water.

Instead of silica beads, I used Calcium Chloride, but it doesn't affect it at all. The vacuum pump, it's enough on its own.

Yes, I do. I use brightener.

The point is not to use hot temperature to dry it, so it's not ideal to do it under sunlight.
