What a bizarre comment. The ending of the first movie felt like whiplash that cut off right before major emotional beats. How exactly do you find the actual ending of the book to be inferior to stopping a film like it just got hit by a semi truck on the highway?
There’s pretty massive moments in the latter half of the book. I dunno, kind of baffled how “knowing how Dune ends” makes you feel like what’s left is weaker. I feel like it’s more common to say that the series falls off after God Emperor. Not that it falls off halfway through the first book.

Not perfect but god they could do better. This movie changes things for the sake of changing things. Duncan doesn't die like that and I prefer the way he was meant to die. My husband who is not a dune fan agrees the way they killed Duncan was weak and pointless.

    • @marysueeasteregg
      @marysueeasteregg 11 месяцев назад

@@bakedAlaskan97 Huh? What do you mean Duncan did not die like that?
Per Dune Wiki (and this site is for the books)
"He [Duncan] initially met up with Planetologist Liet Kynes, Lady Jessica and Paul, hiding in a botanical testing station abandonded long ago. However, they were not there long before the station was attacked by Sardaukar. Duncan was killed by one by a blow to the head, but not before he dispatched no less than nineteen Sardaukar soldiers single-handedly. In so doing, he rescued the Duke's son Paul Atreides, who later became the first Emperor in the dynasty of House Atreides, and Duke Leto's concubine, the Lady Jessica, allowing them to escape in an ornithopter."
And in the novel, Paul wanted to go back for him, but Jessica said he was already dead [dying]. Very similar to the movie.
How is the above different in any substantial way to how Duncan's death was portrayed in the film? He didn't get a head blow in the film, but that is a trivial detail. In both, he heroically fought off a large group of Sardaukar behind a closed door, allowing Jessica and Paul to escape to the ornithopter.

You're right, that Chani never asked that. She was well aware, long before Paul seized the imperial throne, that he was likely to enter a political marriage.
There is this interchange in the first novel between Jessica and Chani's close friend Harah, on the day Paul faces his sandrider's test:
"And you think my personal feelings enter into my judgment," Harah said. She shook her head, her water rings tinkling at her neck. "How wrong you are. Perhaps you think, as well, that I regret not being the chosen of Usul, that I am jealous of Chani?"
"You make your own choice as you are able," Jessica said.
      "I pity Chani," Harah said.
Jessica stiffened. "What do you mean?"
"I know what you think of Chani," Harah said. "You think she is not the wife for your son."
Jessica settled back, relaxed on her cushions. She shrugged. "Perhaps."
"You could be right," Harah said. "If you are, you may find a surprising ally - Chani herself. She wants whatever is best for Him ."
The movie question violates Chani's character as described in Dune Messiah, where Herbert has Paul thinking about how Chani mostly avoided indiscreet questions, abiding by a sense of Fremen manners.
I get the impression the film will emphasize Chani's (very real) fierce side, and minimize her vulnerability and sensitivity, and possibly her clear-sighted pragmatism.

Some casting members are terrible choices:
    * Christoper Walken as ‘Emperor Padhisha IV’ poorly convincing role
    * Rebecca Fergusson as ‘Lady Jessica’ extremely young and nervous to be Paul’s mother
    * Stephen McKinley Henderson as ‘Thufir Hawat’ lacks savvy, knowledgeable, and academic presence
    * Charlotte Rampling as ‘Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam’ required firmer attitude and imposing presence
    * Sharon Duncan-Brewster as ‘Liet, The Judge of the Change’ has no neutral demeanor and lacks a serene mature attitude for that critical rol
Others actors were the perfect choice, like:
    * Timothée Chalamet as ‘Paul Atreides’
    * Jason Momoa as ‘Duncan Idaho’
    * Oscar Isaac as ‘Duke Leto Atreides’
    * Chang Chen as ‘Dr. Wellington Yueh’
    * Stellan Skarsgård as ‘Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’
    * Dave Bautista as ‘The Beast Rabban’
