Beautifully done! I used to go to the Scream Club in the 80s in L.A. and they had a big video room where they would sync up images and songs like this, mixing death rock, punk, glam, and hard rock. It was an intense experience for me at the time.
Some friends of my younger brother visited him back them mainly for listening to my records. Even more than 20 years later they thanked me for playing the Sisters to them...
"Marian" In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom In the wake of this ship of fools I'm falling further down If you can see me, Marian, reach out and take me home..... [CHORUS] I hear you calling Marian Across the water, across the wave I hear you calling Marian Can you hear me calling you to Save me, save me, save me from the Grave... Marian Marian, there's a weight above me And the pressure is all too strong To breathe deep Breathe long and hard To take the water down and go to sleep To sink still further Beneath the fatal wave Marian I think I'm drowning This sea is killing me [CHORUS] Was ich kann und was ich könnte (What I can do and what I could do) Weiß ich gar nicht mehr (I just don't know anymore) Gib mir wieder etwas Schönes (Give me something beautiful again) Zieh mich aus dem Meer (Drag me from the sea) Ich höre dich rufen, Marian (I hear you calling Marian) Kannst du mich schreien hören (Can you hear me calling?) Ich bin hier allein (I am here alone) Ich höre dich rufen, Marian (I hear you calling Marian) Ohne deine Hilfe verliere ich mich in diesem Ort (Without your help I am lost in this place) [CHORUS] [repeat Marian til end]
Beautiful. This song embodies the time and atmosphere of the early 80's in Chicago for me - Medusa's, The Alley, Wax Trax records. Wonderful visuals. Thank you.
Honestly, super old movies like Nosferatu and Frankenstein are actually better than most modern movies. Movie makers are trying way too hard to make super extreme blockbuster movies these days...
labels are a one of humanity's greatest flaws. why must we always confine such perfection into unnecessary boxes. I call it music, beautiful, timeless music.
Very cool video Brother keep up the badass work. i really like the shots of the beach. i know its from the movie Nosferatu but still wanted to throw that out there.
This song was released in 1985, well before Tiamat moved from gurgling metal to pseudo-goth, and also prior to Depeche Mode's journey into darker, more guitar-based realms. If anything, the mid- to late-period material of those two acts was influenced by the Sisters, rather than the other way around. Nice use of Murnau's classic "Nosferatu" in this video, incidentally.
.....a GOTHIC masterpiece.....¡!!!!! 🌺🖤💗
To me this is the best song by 'The Sisters of Mercy'.
magnificence macabre I love “Alice”, “Body and Soul”, and “Lucretia my Reflection”, but this song is definitely in my top ten!
I agree.
This & "Nine While Nine".
Same
I think it's the best song of all time tbh
The film made a century last week since it was released. And it's still considered a masterpiece. Happy 100th bday!
After 50 years of music listening, this song is still in my top 20 ever!!!
And is it now?
Beautifully done! I used to go to the Scream Club in the 80s in L.A. and they had a big video room where they would sync up images and songs like this, mixing death rock, punk, glam, and hard rock. It was an intense experience for me at the time.
So beautiful and so dark. Long live the 80's!
Perfect marriage of film and song.
A true Gothic masterpiece,a dont have enough words to describe this song.
his voice... hypnotising
I had seen Nosferatu and heard "Marian" before, but once you put them together, that was it. For me this film is just the music video for Marian now.
Imagine what would happen if Nosferatu sank his fangs into a swollen fart?
The dark of the darkest! Nospheratus in the house. Beautiful Marian.
Masterpiece . best band of dark 80's .
Some friends of my younger brother visited him back them mainly for listening to my records. Even more than 20 years later they thanked me for playing the Sisters to them...
I think that this track has one of that purest thrills and most pit-like vibrations that no Goth composition would ever reach. a pure master piece
I 've been in more than one music scene in the eighties. But to me THIS is the anthem of the 80s.
Brilliant song !
"Marian"
In a sea of faces, in a sea of doubt
In this cruel place your voice above the maelstrom
In the wake of this ship of fools I'm falling further down
If you can see me, Marian, reach out and take me home.....
[CHORUS]
I hear you calling Marian
Across the water, across the wave
I hear you calling Marian
Can you hear me calling you to
Save me, save me, save me from the
Grave...
Marian
Marian, there's a weight above me
And the pressure is all too strong
To breathe deep
Breathe long and hard
To take the water down and go to sleep
To sink still further
Beneath the fatal wave
Marian I think I'm drowning
This sea is killing me
[CHORUS]
Was ich kann und was ich könnte
(What I can do and what I could do)
Weiß ich gar nicht mehr
(I just don't know anymore)
Gib mir wieder etwas Schönes
(Give me something beautiful again)
Zieh mich aus dem Meer
(Drag me from the sea)
Ich höre dich rufen, Marian
(I hear you calling Marian)
Kannst du mich schreien hören
(Can you hear me calling?)
Ich bin hier allein
(I am here alone)
Ich höre dich rufen, Marian
(I hear you calling Marian)
Ohne deine Hilfe verliere ich mich in diesem Ort
(Without your help I am lost in this place)
[CHORUS]
[repeat Marian til end]
Very nice. Thank you.
mario marianof Thank you
The film goes so well with the music. Love it
wow ... i've seen Nosferatu some years ago,it's a little hard to watch because it's a silent film but it's amazing how that movie (1922) still rocks
this song i used to listen to over and over...like it put me in a trance...pulling me away...sme other place and time..very haunting ...
Darkwave music paired with Nosferatu.....perfection! Thanks
Beautiful. This song embodies the time and atmosphere of the early 80's in Chicago for me - Medusa's, The Alley, Wax Trax records. Wonderful visuals. Thank you.
It was the same in London back in the early 80's
.....definitely the required music for The Ball at Nosferatu's Castle.....
This song is always going to be special to me... introduced me to goth music and always fill me with memories of teenage days and happiness...
I just watched Nosferatu for the first time in years and now I have to watch this.
I can listen to this song over and over and never ever tire of it! Beautiful work!
Nasferatu......just brilliant. The footage is perfect. The waves, the boat, it is exactly the nightmare that befits the song.
Honestly, super old movies like Nosferatu and Frankenstein are actually better than most modern movies. Movie makers are trying way too hard to make super extreme blockbuster movies these days...
Imagine what would happen if Nosferatu sank his fangs into a swollen fart?
why did i never think to pair sisters of mercy with nosferatu fottage? brilliant!
The 1985 winner of the "How-low-can-you-climb-down-with-your-voice" Award. :-D
+Monitorreiniger Listen to Carl McCoy from the Fields of the Nephilim... :-)
+Double-T Bassman
Carl is the winner of the same award in 1990 :-)
Nevertheless it is a head to head race.
Peter Steele had such a spooky, low voice...R.I.P.
Everyone should listen to Type O Negative each October 🤘😆💫🥰🎶🎵🎶🎶
@@double-tbassman I listened to them four times in concert. 😉😁 Fields is even better than Sisters especially the "Elysium" album.
You are a great movie director ! Perfect song for a perfect dark FIRST movie
labels are a one of humanity's greatest flaws. why must we always confine such perfection into unnecessary boxes. I call it music, beautiful, timeless music.
what a perfect visual to use for this song.
one of my best dark songs ever!!!

Pure bliss... For so many different reasons... Video is great btw.

So moody... My hair on my arms stand tall... A haunting melody that fills my soul with hope that we may overcome the darkness that awaits us...
This song always reminds me of my late cat Marian (2017-2021), whose name was a reference to my favorite song by the Sisters of Mercy

NOSFERATU É O GRANDE CLÁSSICO DE TODOS OS TEMPOS..
This song was released in 1985, well before Tiamat moved from gurgling metal to pseudo-goth, and also prior to Depeche Mode's journey into darker, more guitar-based realms.
