was watching AHS last night and started screaming at my TV " the sisters of mercy, it's the sisters of mercy!" and than later bauhaus played ugh great music choices! 👌👌
Perhaps one of the greatest songs ever written. It hits me like a sledgehammer each and every time. That Barytone is just mindblowing. Thank you Andrew. You got me weeping over and over again, and had done so since the 80s. Sincere and naked and true artistic vocal performance. Comparable to Driven like the snow. Pure. Brutal. True. Cudos!
I am a child of the 90s that grew up with a young father, he introduced me to all his favorite bands. So when I heard this song on AHS 5 I was loving the vibe & theme of that season. I'm 31 years old & still love this music. My kids are 6 & 10 going on 11. They are inspired by my style of music that I was introduced as a young child. So don't be mad or jealous when the younger generations start to become fans of bands you listened to & obsessed over your whole life. Appreciate that music like this will inspire today's generation & it keeps this music alive today. ✨🔮🛎🔑🚪
Negative. When i see the younger generations expand their musical tastes it shows open mindedness and intelligence. I get proud cuz im the same way. My musical tastes are far and wide. From Billie Holliday to Jimi Hendrix to Siouxsie Sioux. Mozart and Rachmaninoff to Bau Haus and David Bowie to the Meteors, Demented Are Go and The Cramps. On and on it goes. There are very few of this type of person.
I'm nearly 64 and I still love The Sisters Of Mercy and many other bands of the same genre. When my son was playing the same type of rock in his teens he used to complain that he couldn't annoy us when he played it loudly because we liked it too!
*_With our backs to the sky! And our eyes on the ground! With the clouds far below...No horizon around...With the wind in our face! And our arms open wide, we will pass through this place...to the other side..._*
I was amazed and oh so pleasantly surprised, to hear Sister's of Mercy in AHS 5! This is my genre of music. The Cure, Souxsie and the Banshees, Jesus and the Marychain, Joy Divison, and Roxy Music! Been listening to the Sister's since I was 16. Now at 47 listening still. This is one favorite tracks from S.O.M. If y'all liked S.O.M, I highly recommend First,Last, and Always album.
"I had this vision. You know in the summer if you lay on the grass and stare at the sky, you can almost see beyond the stars, but cannot quite get a grip on what's there? Well, sometimes it's very difficult to work out exactly what it is that keeps you pressed between the earth and the sky and why you don't whoosh off into oblivion. Neverland is coming about this the other way: the entire population of the earth starting to travel from some indefinable point in space toward the earth at increasing speed. It would take an eternity to reach the earth - by which time you'd be reasonably spiritualised - and even when you reached the destination, you wouldn't actually hit the ground. You'd be going so fast you'd just go through and out the other side, where there is another eternity of nothingness. I just tried to write a song about these impressions." - Andrew Eldritch ('After the Flood'; Ted Mico, Melody Maker, 14 November 1987)
Teenage cousin was listening to the AHS soundtrack and this came on and I laughed, because she was telling me how much she loved this song after spending the last two days griping about 80's music. Couldn't help but tell her I had the Floodlands album in High School. Ended up getting her to listen to the entire album and made a future SoM fan. Sometimes shows featuring our music helps, even if you have to wade through the b.s.
I remember being about 17 and just sitting in my room and playing this song(well the "fragment" verson on Floodland) and rewinding and playing and rewinding and playing it(on the cassette!) over and over.
This is one of the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. This resonates with my soul so damn hard and it makes life such a privilege to be able to listen to this master piece! ❤️

I remember reading a comment on RUclips that Patricia Morrison/Vanian was just eye candy in her days as SOM bassist! Well, as far as this letch is concerned, she certainly was that and more, much, much more! Used to have this poster on my bedroom wall in an attic room along with other gothic and macabre icons and real cobwebs, in a shared three storey house. ctcombest I still run into fledgelings who know them. Ran into one tonight whose party i'll be attending next month and was happy to find Sisters are already on the playlist.
I wouldn't actually be so sure. I was introduced to sisters of mercy in highschool by a friend one grade younger than me. Bare in mind I'm 20 now so at the time I was 17 and she 16. We're few, but less few than most expect
this is one of those songs that gets stuck in my head for awhile, and im not satisfyed till i play it so much i hate it for awhile. This is a 11min song no less! The first version i looked at was only a short clip in with AHS ones. A guy was wishing it was longer. Ill share the love.

Yes! I agree. It’s dr. Avalanche drum machine and the deep voice of andrew.. this song could be 20 min!
Yes thats exactly it, one of those rarist of songs that never fades or become creamed by listening to it too much it's special

I've been a fan from as far back as 83.Young people Give this band a chance. Goth is alive and well.
Yes
Same here. My first cd was NIN and I loved Sisters...also other artists in this genre like, KMFDM, Ministry, etc.
Giving it a chance,and I definitely like it!! ✌️
Especially the dark but also sensual undertone/feel to it!
Sorry English is not my native language 😊
My dad recently played „Temple of Love” to me, I absolutely adored it and now I’m exploring more from this band. Love it so far
Well done Laura's Dad 😎

Postmortem
This song never gets old. Been listening to it since the 80's. 😄
Floodland is so awesome. Thats one you can listen to start to finish . Still one of my favorite albums.
The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
I burned through two vinyl copies and three CDs before digital media came along ...
@@PatrickPierceBatemanConsummate professionalism or professional consumerism?
@@PatrickPierceBateman A little too new wave for my taste.
I've waited all these years for a song as good as this by anyone. Still hasn't happened.
This is my go-to song to listen to before I give a presentation or have to do something that I’m nervous about. It makes me feel invincible.

And when your nerves break your thought
And my word break your will
And the heart break me over this wheel

I had a place in the sun and a

I had everything within my reach
I had money and stuff
Each and every call
Too much but never enough
Tear it up and watch it fall
They are coming down
Wait for
Hand in hand in hand in hand
They are coming down
Wait for
They are coming down
But we will
Never never land
With our backs to the sky
And our eyes on the ground
With the clouds far below
No horizon around
With the wind in our face
And our arms open wide
We will pass through this place
To the other side
All the days of our lives
All the ways of our calling
Follow...
