- Every day as soon as Lexi and Leighton wake up, Leighton begs to go visit her chickens in the garage. She cuddles them, feeds them and always gives them kisses. Leighton has been around chickens since she was born and she instantly formed a bond and love for them. She spends her days looking after them and making sure they’re safe and comfy. Wow! A white turkey! Amazing and an amazing little girl who clearly understands animals! Loretta and all the chickens are really cool.
I have never seen a toddler be so respectful and delicate with animals. Usually at that age they are incapable of seeing anything as having feelings beyond their own body. Clearly she has learnt well from her mum.

myself and my brother were chicken kids as well from when we were like 4 and 7yrs old. We became the kids that loved chickens in our schools. Show and tell day we took the chickens to class he had his favorite Diana who he named after Princess Di and mine was Bobby who I named after Bobby Brown. Bobby was our rooster who would keep the cats out of the yard to make sure Diana and Christina our other chickens were okay. We lost his brother Daniel before he learned to crow, but we were told two roosters would have been a bit teritorial. It was still so gutted, my brother sat with Daniel as he was passing away. He didn't want to put him down until our parents got home. (The neighbours would watch us after school, they stayed with us as we cried over Daniel), my mum went and got Christina and Diana after Bobby understood his brother was gone.

Are these chickens sent to slaughter when they are no longer able to produce eggs? I hope not.
They are our pets and the eggs they lay are an added bonus. But we love them until the end when they pass naturally.

Are your chickens only to be egg layers? Or eventually Fried chicken? And yes Im serious. Our kids had chickens too. The kids were kind to them. But understood they were Egg layers n eventually Dinner too.
They are our pets. The eggs they lay are an added bonus but we do not raise them for meat.
