  • HERITAGE RAIL TRAIL - Welcome to York County! Today we're biking the Heritage Rail trail in York, Pennsylvania bike tour. My first time in this area & boy, was it a GREAT day of gravel cycling. The full 40 mile bike ride was completed on the Heritage Rail Trail.
This is how I want to spend my weekends. With Exercise, travel to places I've never been and soaking in some good landscapes. Success! Enjoy the POV ride!

The problem is once we exercise there are so many Cheesesteak places and pizza and pie and cake and Amish sandwiches. Ughhh it’s impossible! 😊 Thank you, Anthony.

The heat won’t slow us down. The ticks might scare me out of the woods but I’m ok to ride these endless amount trails around here. So much to do! So much to see! 😊 Thanks.

Great video. I agree, riding out on PA back roads and the rail trail is awesome. I just breathe in the air and the beauty. Welcome back to the states.

Thank you Mattie that’s very kind of you & I appreciate the information on the Howard tunnel. I really had no idea! I felt the tunnel on the Lancaster Northwest Trail near Chickies rock was really old also. I’m loving riding around central PA. I hope to branch out further soon and get into the mountains. I really REALLY appreciate it! Thanks for the warm welcome back! Rockie

Hey Craig. Were you effected by fires? I thought your more near Vancouver but I might be mistaken. Hope all is well! Thank you!

@@rockeastwood no we were not affected by the fires or smoke that went down the East Coast, I'm on the Atlantic Ocean side of Canada (New Brunswick) our sister province Nova Scotia had a bad fire but the smoke from it went out to sea too

@@craigbetts1586 Right on. Glad to hear it. The smoke reach us but cleared after a day or two. I thought that was the case. Just checking. Take care!

Another awesome video, showing how beauty looks measured in Freedom units. As you know from the military, there will always be that 10% that moans, groans, you know the other word and complains. Thanks for taking us along for your adventures, Devil Doc. 👍

Yeah, I don’t even know why I mention it. I just want people to be happy - but the universe seems to work against us. I just hope if I put the outdoor angle on the answer to loosing up, hopefully someone will hear it 😊 Appreciate you!

I need a bike... Had a decent one, it got jacked. Amazing how much more ground you can cover in a short time. Nice ride.

Unfortunately you have to invest in the top of the top of the top of the line NYC recommended bike lock which comes in around $400. Even then it’s not 100% safe. Those fools with angle grinders can always get you, but it will cause a scene. Im simply not leaving my bike outside unless a emergency so I’m not too worried. Getting bike jacked is the worst. Believe me, I been there but also I was careless. Never again 😊 With that said don’t let that deter you! Exercise & fun on two wheels can’t be beat. I love it! Let’s roll! ✌️

You were right - the railroad (North Central Railway) is the one Abraham Lincoln did take to deliver the Gettysburg Address. His train veered to the west towards Gettysburg at the Hanover Junction station which is where you took your break on the way back. His funeral train took the same rail line. The trail actually extends another 20 miles into Maryland. The Maryland side is mostly surrounded by trees and provides more shade. New Freedom, PA and specifically under those cave of trees just north of the Mason-Dixon line is the high point of the trail. That's why you would have felt the climb going towards it and have been able to coast more going away from it.

Thank you the history lesson. Good to know. It’s a darn good trail. Probably the best of all the rail trails I rode because they go through cool towns as well as followed the tracks. It was good fun. I doubt I’ll ever go back to any of the others ie Lancaster river, Enola, Cumberland Valley, Lebanon. However, I could see myself getting back on the Heritage and heading more south past New Freedom. Thanks again!

PS The Howard tunnel on the rail trail is the oldest continuously operational stone arch tunnel still in operation in the world. Having the special weekend train run keeps it that way. I kinda think the rail pedal cars would be a little boring. But maybe not.
