  • @fisherholmsfly

    Great video! At 900 grains you are probably losing kinetic energy. It would be worth shooting over a chrono and crunching the numbers. For my 70# centergy the max energy is around 475 grains so I would estimate your 85# bow would be somewhere around 550-600 grains. Energy vs arrow weight will make a parabolic curve which depends on how fast your bow shoots the arrows. It might be worth some ballistics gel tests too.

    • @fisherholmsfly
      @fisherholmsfly 5 лет назад +1

      I used an online calculator to estimate your max energy with your bow. I set IBO at 350, weight at 85, and adjusted arrow weight up to 925 grains. At around 500 grains is where I got your max energy at around 120 ft pounds. At 900 grains your energy would be 77 ft pounds! Use your chrono and this website (www.larrywillis.com/bullet-energy.html) and you will see that the heavier arrows you are shooting the more energy you will be losing. As for penetration the only way to know for sure is a ballistics gel test or just shoot your buffalo with it because I'm sure it will be just fine.

      Todd Reeves go to a bunch of archery ranges an ask, sometimes they’ll sell they’re used ones or may be able to order you a new one.

    I notice it looks like you used hot melt on the inserts. Did you do that on the FMJ and was that just for testing or was that done instead of using the epoxy?

    I might have missed it, but what are you getting for FPS with that set up? I’m asking because I am curious to see the difference in kinetic every between say a bow set at 80lbs and pushing a 500 gr arrow at 290fps or yours at 86lbs pushing a 900 gr arrow at whatever speed.

    With a 900g arrow, i would imagine that when you miss, you miss by a lot. Given the trajectory being that of a stone. Not going to matter with a buffalo at 30m, but imagine the 100m bombs. That's a beast of an arrow though

    Love your channel. Your lighter setup has to be grossly underspined. I'm shooting a triax at 78lbs and if I run those 170gr ethics outlets with a 250gr head,on a 250 spine arrow I'm underspined by quite a bit and your shooting almost another 10lbs. Good luck to you and I hope your smoke a biggun. Btw, are those cutt throats or bishop heads?

    It’s always great to hear how quiet bows are with heavy arrows. They’re only louder with light arrows because they’re shaking like hell with all the energy the arrow didn’t have the mass to absorb. You’d think every Hunter would want the most efficiency out of their bow 🤔
