    Great video! At 900 grains you are probably losing kinetic energy. It would be worth shooting over a chrono and crunching the numbers. For my 70# centergy the max energy is around 475 grains so I would estimate your 85# bow would be somewhere around 550-600 grains. Energy vs arrow weight will make a parabolic curve which depends on how fast your bow shoots the arrows. It might be worth some ballistics gel tests too.

    • @fisherholmsfly
      @fisherholmsfly 5 лет назад +1

      I used an online calculator to estimate your max energy with your bow. I set IBO at 350, weight at 85, and adjusted arrow weight up to 925 grains. At around 500 grains is where I got your max energy at around 120 ft pounds. At 900 grains your energy would be 77 ft pounds! Use your chrono and this website (www.larrywillis.com/bullet-energy.html) and you will see that the heavier arrows you are shooting the more energy you will be losing. As for penetration the only way to know for sure is a ballistics gel test or just shoot your buffalo with it because I'm sure it will be just fine.

      Biggest advantage is the ethics steel insert. The FMJ hidden insert system is a terrible design, means the end of the shaft takes all the impact force and will deteriorate much quicker than solid steel or brass. Plenty of stories of the fronts splitting open on hard bone hits.

    Dude 86lbs that's pretty crazy, as the bladesmith Doug Marcaida says "It will kill". I can shoot 50 or 60 lbs recurves and it serves what I hunt so far, as well there's no let-off like a compound has. So if you imagine an avg English Long Bowmen would normally practice between 90-150lbs with war bows.

    Hey Boss! Quick question, I’m in the market for a new bow, I’ve shot 70lb bows my entire life (should have started lighter at a younger age) but I’ve been debating going up to 80lb for my next rig! What are your opinions on 80lb draw compared to 70? I often shoot 100 arrow sessions with my 70lb rx-1 with minimal fatigue, 70 is pretty comfy, I just wonder if I would become comfortable with 80 after practice 🤔

      Lots of good info to be found on nock on RUclips channel. Most people who tune like this have a press and draw board and they play with it until they get it right (it also helps to have an OCD personality)

      Daniel Jackobson check out John Dudley. He is one of the most influential people in archery and bowhunting over the last 30+ years and is often under recognized for this. He runs Nock On Archery, has a very helpful RUclips channel and Podcast. His info cover shooting form, equipment, tuning, hunting tactics, and so much more. I have learned much more about archery from him than anyone else. He also teamed up with PSE in January to build the PSE Evo NTN.
