One thing you've done for me Bob, is to open my mind to French cars. In fact, your reviews have been a revelation to me. I think you're fair to the French manufactures while the english reviewers are overly critical and impossible to please. You certainly turned me into a Megane RS265 fan, and now, I do like Peugeot cars so much more. The 3008 is an intelligently conceived car and seems to be a very pleasant place sit in. You certainly looked very comfy in the cabin!!

I had one of these while I was in France two years ago, it was beyond practical, great comfort front and back and to top it off, that moon roof was absolutely brilliant while we were driving through/under the cliffs of the Lot Valley.

Correct with the added bonus that you can attach the electric motor to any back axle with few modifications and servicing can be done at non specialist if you're just getting the diesel unit done.

Owned one for 4 years. It was a fine hybrid family car. I did 120,000 miles in it. As a company car, it was brilliant.
TBH I miss the thing more than I thought I would. Loved the high tech hybrid.
Do you remember what sort of fuel economy you got ?
@@Mr330d typically low-mid 40's in most tanks. If you drive for economy you can get over 50 quite easily, but it gets tedious

They use a diesel regenerative charge only. There is a 12v battery similar to a standard car for engine starting, electrics and other ancillaries.
Sorry, I missed your comment. I think it's on the left side of the steering wheel. There's a switch for speed limiter and cruise control. Once it's on you just press the plus to set it.

I think a diesel hybrid is a genius idea, in town you have 70km of very quiet driving, and still, when you get up on the highway, you have 450nm and 200hp
Loving your work Bob. Probably the most convincing hybrid there is without being pretentious like the Prius.

Hey Bob, thanks for the review. It does seem from the video that there is a bit rough transition whenever the car switches from diesel to electric and vice versa. Can you please compare the comfort felt from driving this against the Prius or even the Lexus hybrids?

Bob, seven years on now and I'm looking at a 12 D hybrid 4 and can't find anything about the battery life span & how much they are to replace?

Thanks very much, it's a better hybrid for Ireland because very few of us live and work in cities
French cars are on a bit of a run at the moment, most of the French brands are bringing out something cool and useful. Peugeot are at the forefront of this run, there isn't a bad car in the line up at the moment. Peugeot have a lot to offer when it comes to a company who work hard and bring out some of the best cars on the market.

if you did some research you'd find that "world's first diesel hybrid" are Peugeot's own words not Bob's. Actually they refer to the 3008 as being "the world's first full diesel Hybrid vehicle"
It's on a shortlist of 2 - the other one is the 7 seat Prius+

***** No dice I'm afraid, I love the look of it and if the 508 is anything to go by it'll be lovely to drive. Peugeot Ireland only offer it as a special order and so they won't bring one for Press review. If this changes I'll let you know.

Things are changing in the car industry, we are at a moment in history where personal transport is moving away from the traditional box and into something very different. You'll be telling your Grand Children about the first Hydrogen/electric/hybrid car that you ever drove.
I don't think Peugeot operate in the US market at present although there is a Peugeot service center in NJ.
Me too, the Diesel makes much more sense for country dwellers than the petrol versions
If it comes on test from Volvo I'll review it. Next from Volvo is the V50 full review in a few weeks

This is a very exciting time in the auto industry. One day humans will look in the video vaults and say, "I can't believe the polluting cars that we use to drive" how much does that car cost US for the base model.
A similar concept as the Audi 100 duo! A combustion engine in the front and in the rear an electric motor!
If one comes up for test I'll get it. 208 is the car of the moment right now but I'll ask!

Agreed but with the fuel savings you'll make back the difference if you hold onto the car for longer, about 5 years should get it back.

The 7 seat Prius isn't as good (or economical) as the 3008, just drove it the other day and while it's nice it only has a shelf with all 7 seats up. The last row of seats are for kids only btw.
We've heard nothing about the 7 seat Prius coming to Ireland but no doubt Toyota will do something with it. It'll still be a petrol model though, if your millage is high diesel will be a better option

Yeah. It's the main reason most hybrids didn't have diesel engines. It's evident that a Diesel car would have a higher price tag than a petrol car, the culprit would be more expensive exhaust systems to keep the poisonous gases and particles low. Add that up to a hybrid drivetrain which are already expensive, you'll have a car a couple of years ago would be considered far too expensive and uncompetitive.
Which is a shame since putting an already efficient diesel and hybrid together is brilliant.
This not because toyota made the first hybrid that it's mean other manufacturer arn't allowed to try to make hybrid there own way.
In Prius HSD, the system is fully integreated inside the gearbox. 2 electric motor/generator and petrol engine linked together via a powersharing mecanism.
In the HY4 You've got a normal diesel, with a Start and stop that act as generator. The whole electric propulsion system is in the back. If the hybrid system fail you still have a normal diesel to go with.

Not drive without the diesel engine, drive without the diesel engine RECHARGING THE BATTEY? (Not shouting, just marking the words.. ;)
If you cant do that you earn nothing with charging it via diesel. The only way that should charge the battery is via regenerative braking, that´s the only way to gain mileage!
Can you drive it without the diesel engine recharging the battery after it´s flat?
