This video is all about acknowledging the flaws in Michael and Alex's relationship and the growth that needed to occur in order for them to get to the place they are now. I think it's really easy to place all the blame for their relationship failures on either Alex for walking away, or on Michael pushing him away. But it is very much both. I know a lot of Malex fans hate season 2, but I think it served a real purpose. There was a lot of pain, resentment, and anger in their relationship, and I don't think they could have had any positive or stable relationship without Alex and Michael finally rid themselves of their self-loathing caused by their traumatic pasts separately.
I think the quotes that best represent this (besides the one that started this description) are:
"I love him. I probably always will. But lately that love just hurts."
"It's a sad story me and Alex. I have to walk away so we can start a new one someday. It's not our time right now - But it will be-- I think so."
"We are not who we were in high school, let alone a year ago."
I definitely wouldn't call this my best video, mostly because I'm not 100% on the music choice. But hey, posting it anyways. Also the phenomenal music choices by the show truly are truly the bane of my sound editing existence.

Honestly that quote combo/edit is one of the ones I was most happy with in the video. I just felt like even though it wasn’t made EXPLICIT, I really do believe that Michael thought that he was the one that pushed Alex to enlist, and that part of his complex was about that. Which is just.. AH.

Michael thinking he'd driven Alex away, and Alex feeling like he had to leave are two sides of the same coin.
