Very in depth overview. Matt has always been a great spokesman for all the companies he represents. Very good articulate talker. Can’t stand when artists have a signature product and can’t really say much about it besides it sounds great go buy one.
I like how both his signature snares (mapex and pearl) are quite different from each other and yest it doesn't veer away for the Matt Halpern sound. I think both snares would be great additions to your collection. Similarities: -Brass Metal -14x6 size Build Differences: - 1.2mm (Mapex) vs. 1.5mm (Pearl) thick brass shell - 9 standard vents (Mapex) vs. 3 standard vents (Pearl) - Evans Heavyweight (Mapex) vs. Evans Dry Heavyweight (Pearl) -- it think this compensates for the lack of vents vs the Mapex - Steel 2.3mm Sonic Saver Hoops (Mapex) vs 5.0mm Pearl Diecast Hoops - Black Panther single lugs (Mapex) vs Tube lugs (Pearl) - Gun Metal Black Color (Mapex) vs. Flat Black (Pearl)
This is refreshing to see how much thought Matt put into this product, rather than just slapping an artists name on a standard product and changing the color.
I picked one up and yes it is an amazing drum , only thing after 2 weeks of trying it out I found the Heavyweight dry to be a bit much so I just changed to a regular heavyweight giving it a few weeks then trying a Power center
i HEAR YOU MATT!, great choice of material, style, and sound-and it looks mean, but solid and possibly a deadly weapon.Die cast hoops on brass shelled snares keeps it dry and cracking.the slingerland brass 6x14 i have was painted black before i owned it, but done quite well, and 3lines in brass show, tube lugs make almost any snare look better.i want one!
Sounds exactly like the mapex Matt Halpern (not a bad thing, I have it, and it's my favorite snare) the mapex is also brass, also has 3 vent holes, also recommends the Evans hd reverse dot, almost identical other than the tube lugs it seems.
He went from 1,2mm to 1,5mm of brass and from the sonic saver hoop to a die cast, those are pretty significant changes Also, the old one was 9 vents, not 3 But yeah, that's not surprising that he went for characteristics in the same ballpark. If the wraith was still sold, I would buy it anytime over the pearl one. The 300$ added on the price tag is not worth the difference in my opinion
So... he went from 9 vent holes and 2.3mm hoops to 3 vent holes and cast hoops. Yet achieves a nearly identical tonal characteristic and volume. Interesting. I'm a huge Pearl fan, but I have to say... his Mapex signature snare was far nicer looking IMHO.
Also I would say that this sound isn’t really versatile. Like if you want something really dry you could always just get a thicker head and crank it or just muffle the drum more. Like having the vent holes unfortunately limits the drum imo
Nice drum. I like the 6" depth, I like that it's brass and I like that it has diecast hoops. It ticks a lot of boxes for me. I just don't love the all-black aesthetic, but that's just me. It reminds me of some cheaper drums that have black hoops. Yuk! I don't love tube lugs either. I think they suit drums with single flange counter hoops, but not modern drums with heavy hoops. For me, tube lugs look better on old drums, like 1920s era Ludwigs and Slingerlands. You need to have the stick chopper hoops to complete the look with the tube lugs.
@@robjobse8860 I messed with one at a Guitar Center and actually loved it. I have a Pearl Reference brass snare and the Wraith was every bit as good as the Pearl snare.
Don't waste your money it sounds just like any run of the mill brass snare the only difference is you'll be paying extra just because his name's on it !!
No offence but I've heard much better snares than that and yes I was a Pearl player at one time. Just saying lol! You're still a great company though :)
What you’ve heard it for a couple of minutes lol.... I don’t care what snare drum it is u need to play em in person .all these videos are a guide... silly comment 🙄
Ever heard of height adjusting a snare stand? Wow. Complaining that there is not enough space to accommodate a 0.5" deeper snare because the kick pedals are in the way, that's a total nonsense statement. A half inch is literally 12mm, about the thickness of the average pinky finger, or the shank of an average drum stick. To me, that's simply laziness to adjust your kit properly. If you were to adjust the snare stand down by HALF an inch, you can fit any normal 6.5" drum and still have your desired sticking height unchanged. There are so many snare stand architectures to get, how can any snare stand suddenly get "in the way" of drum pedal hardware on the floor when adjusting it 0.5" down? I'm sorry but that's total nonsense. It's a nice snare build though, the material choice makes sense. Didn't mean to go off on a rant, but just that sudden nugget of total nonsense in a fairly professionally made demo completely surprised me.

how he tune drums? ) what microphones are on toms and snare? snx)
So weird seeing him without a v neck, it's like a whole different person
People at Mapex are probably thinking something like that :D
I could have sworn something was off lol
He finally looks normal
@@continuum288 It's clearly sarcasm d-bag.
There is a vneck under the outer layer ;). Guaranteed! 😂

Love the video! Honestly one of the BEST snare drums I've ever played. Insanely versatile!
Nahhh
There's lots of company 'reps' on this page I am sure lol! That's an awful sounding snare to be honest!
@@batphink2655 Kmce you get quality heads installed it should sound fine. It sure what screams “ bad sounding snare”. Sounds like a snare to me.
I remember helping Matt Carry his drums to the Stage when he was opening for God Forbid and Kitty in Huntington WV. Cool Dude!
This drum may end up becoming a modern classic.
Matt is such an awesome dude and amazing drummer!

Beautiful drum and sound. Definitely appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this, but wish it was more affordable ☹️🥲
Cant wait to play this thing. I think a nice touch would’ve been the 3Dot logo with the air vents😆🤌

Ahh yes, the sound of a real drum with a microphone in front of it. Take it in kids.
What is the goal of this comment, exactly?
@@FOSSIL13drums he is saying that the sound is not so processed, feels natural and also not so dampened.
Is new signature snare as the same esthetic as the ultracast snare.

Deffenetly not as good as the ones you made with mapex but still pretty damn epic. How would you control the buzz more?
No v-neck? No Orioles hat on backward? What universe is this?
Probably his twin brother or something

Priced around 1300 AUD is a bit damning, was really looking forward to this drum.
It’s like 7-800 USD, is the conversion rate really that bad rn? It’s not a wildly overpriced drum in my opinion (although kinda, if I’m being honest.)

Why did he leave mapex?
Another job added to Johnny Sins portfolio: Djent Drummer.
This is new.. Matt on a round neck and not a v-neck shirt.
Matts about 6 foot 3. Why is he going on about a snare being too deep on a snare stand??
Pearl makes low stands!
What? No Orioles hat?!? 🤣
