    I thought the benefit of using Airmap was that it would alert u if u fly outside of ur self assigned area that you define on the map, as well as alert you if you ventured into a grid space that had a lower altitude limit, or a "0" ft designation. You didn't demonstrate any of that, if it's all possible. Seems like it should function like that.....

    • @on3voice840
      @on3voice840 5 лет назад

      @@malonecustomdesigns it depends on the devices, I see guys having issues on both but not all android devices are the same... for every 1 iPhone there at least 30 android devices and every company adds their touch to the OS whereas Apple is the only company that handles their devices and there aren't that many. Plus there are so many power user features in android that Apple locks you out of. This simplifies everything for iOS and is the reason they seem to have fewer issues. I had to turn off the cache in the Dji settings and everything was good. You also have to make sure to get a good OTG cable. The one that comes stock on the controller for the Mavic air is USB 2.0 Android runs better on 3.0 when you plug into the bottom USB A port.

  • @JoseSierradeLeste

    I had some interesting experiences with this app and have been juggling between the two (djig4 and airmap) to see which I prefer and what the biggest differences are.
    I like the airmap preflight interface and it's very stable - zero crashes (of the software) so far. Djig4 on the other hand does occasionally crash and need a restart. Not a huge problem but it can be annoying. The djig4 interface is a little bit richer as well and has more options - I can't figure out where to turn off the obstacle avoidance tech in airmap, for example. Djig4 also tries way too hard to do too much - the video editor and the store, for instance. A lot of app overhead when they could split all that out and probably have a much leaner, more stable app.
    That being said, airmap's flight interface is very clean and I can absolutely appreciate the stability of the app. I'm not sure that the differences are compelling enough to use it exclusively, however. As always, ymmv.

    • @JoseSierradeLeste
      @JoseSierradeLeste 5 лет назад

      @@malonecustomdesigns that may very well be, I've read the same thing. Ultimately it doesn't change anything - djig4 is resource intensive but feature rich and airmap runs leaner and has a clean UI. Stability issues may be os related but my overall impression of the two apps remains the same. As I said, I don't think the differences are compelling enough to use one or the other exclusively (i.e neither is significantly better than the other).
      I think the feature rich UI in djig4 gives it an edge, probably... But many of the pilots I know wouldn't even dream of turning off obstacle avoidance tech lol, so in those cases it's possible the slightly more efficient airmap could be advantageous. Hard to say because they're just very close, hence the ymmv. :-)

Recently, I acquired my part 107. I am very familiar with sectional charts and determining airspace. Why is it, that as a part 107 pilot, you could fly within 5 miles of an airport but as a hobbyist you could not? Is that airport private?

      However, I do use AirMap on a regular basis to take a look at areas and plan my flights ahead of time. If I am planning to go to a particular location, I use AirMap to make sure I can fly there before I go!

      DJI makes a very good app called GSP or Ground Station Pro. Once you have taken the shots in GSP you can upload them to Drone Deploy and they will stitch it together for you and also create a 3D map for you that you can share with others. The good thing is that you can create and edit your flight before going to the location. The downside of GSP is that it has a limitation of 99 photos. When you sign up with Drone Deploy you can get a 30 day free trial and then you can sign up for their "Explorer" level plan and you can do mapping for free.

    Why pay for a third party app when the DJI G0 4 also has Geo Zones telling you where your not allowed to fly? I get that Air Map has even more info, but does that over come the cost and danger of flying with third party software that isn’t governed by DJI warranty.

    Hi, just wondering if this Airmap app is an overlay on top of the GO-4 app, or is it a separate stand alone app?
    I'd love to find an app that works for my Mavic Pro on Android without screen locking every couple of flights.

    • @malonecustomdesigns

      This is stand alone as far as I know. I did not have to launch the GO4 app.

      Yes, there is a DJI Assist website. Not an app per se. it’s used for such instances when you get an alert on the mavis remote saying you need to optimize your sensors (for obstacle avoidance). It’s been buggy for some while I had just had a minor hassle to get it to work.

    I bought my drone Mavic pro on April 4 and I had no problem to calibrate gps and imu but had problem with calibrate sensors so I not sure if I was doing it correct or my computer screen was to small to fit the Mavic pro so I return it to Best Buy on April 6 so this summer I buying Mavic air which smaller and compact but I hope when I get Mavic air I don’t have trouble again getting it calibrate. With sensors
    And it will fit my computer screen
    P.s do I need to really calibrate the sensors. Or can just fly without the sensors
    My friend as a drone that doesn’t have any sensors on it
    Can you please make video on how to calibrate sensors and how big the my computer screen need to calibrate the Mavic air sensor if I do need to really calibrate sensors

    • @malonecustomdesigns
      @malonecustomdesigns  6 лет назад +1

      I don’t think sensor calibration is necessary unless there is a problem with your sensors. Just make sure you do the updates.

      Jay Malone ok because it said sensor error in my controll screen that why I try to calibrate sensor with computer screen

      There is a website by DJI that is titled along the lines of Mavic Assist. Here, just looked it up: www.dji.com/mobile/mavic/info#downloads
      You need to download software from this site, connect your Mavic to your computer and run the sensor calibration. There are you tube videos that walk you through this process. You will continue to get alerts on your Mavic controller until this is done. I personally am not willing to fly with sensors I know are not optimized...just like tossing money out the window of a speeding car...

I don’t have the premium account so some of the features are limited...but I need to check into it more now! I didn’t like it before, but I hadn’t opened it in probably a year!! lol thanks for pointing me in that direction!

    • @Lt184
      @Lt184 6 лет назад

      no worries, I know that there are several other apps that provide some of the same info and seem to be all free but having to have multi apps and adverts I dislike, just not sure if the yearly sub even though cheap is worth getting a all in one app over the multi app route. Only other issue is if using this app over the DJIGo app it seems to have a better log /data compilation BUT Im sure if you use a 3rd party app to fly if something went wrong in the flight even if not due to the 3rd party app, you'd provide DJI the opportunity and right to refuse honoring warranty and related items.
      Either way once you look it over let me know what your opinion is on this topic sir, thanks and til then fly safe and enjoy.

    When the drone rerun home does it land diagonally like a plane or does it remember to fly back at same Altitude and then when It gets to the spot were it took off does it land straight down

    • @malonecustomdesigns
      @malonecustomdesigns  6 лет назад +1

      In your settings, you can determine the altitude that you want it to fly back. I think I have mine set for 100 feet high. That means if the drone is somewhere at 40 ft high when you press the RTH button, then the drone will ascend to 100 ft high first, then fly back to your location, then come straight down. But as you see in my video, any time that I am near anything, I land it manually. In fact, I land it manually 99.5% of the time.

  • @maxmairena6021
    @maxmairena6021 6 лет назад

    Everything is cool! But as a part 107 you should be more careful flying your drones with a battery not charged completely. You are running the risk of loosing power in mid air and that will not be cool. Don’t you think.

    • @malonecustomdesigns
      @malonecustomdesigns  6 лет назад +1

      No, I disagree....Once my battery level drops to 20% I bring it home. It doesn't matter if I started with a full battery or not. If you are talking about a freak battery failure, that can happen at any level of power. And it is with my understanding that charging a drone battery too often puts it at a greater risk of failure.
      Also, Part 107 is referring to the type of rules you are flying under for that specific flight. Sometimes I fly Part 107 rules, sometimes just hobbyist. Neither one of those constitutes being more careful than another. A responsible pilot is careful no matter how they are flying! And we should all become more responsible pilots!

  • @philipchandler330

    I have a Small UAS Certificate of Registration, so Could I also click on Part 107 part of AIRMAP to fly like you did?

    • @malonecustomdesigns
      @malonecustomdesigns  6 лет назад +1

      (Disclaimer: I will answer to the best of my ability, but I am not affiliated with the FAA or any educational organization. I encourage you to call your local FAA office or other organization that regulates airspace for civil aviation in your country.)
      No, a registration does not allow you to fly under Part 107 rules. If you plan to fly under Part 107 rules, then you would need to take the knowledge exam and pass it. Then you will be issued a Remote Pilot Certificate. That is required to fly under Part 107 rules.

    • @johnh.5779
      @johnh.5779 6 лет назад

      Jay, why not answer his question? small UAS reg. Certificates are not the same as having the part 107 certificate. No, you cannot fly under part 107 in AirMap unless you specifically passed the part 107 exam. Seems straightforward.
