Size (height is almost identical in both, but foot print is was smaller), the arca swiss base, ohh, and a third factor, they look way better than the neewer ones. I've walked so many miles now with my monopod on my shoulder and my camera on top via the neewer plate with confidence. I hope I feel the same way doing so with this. Got the 2 bases, 1 top setup. I'll let you know how it went.
so ulanzi f38 or pgytech ? i like the last more but they seem very similar. i havent used one of them so what is the recommendation to buy . THANK YOU SO MUCH
Really great video. I have also watched your video about the issues you have had with the Ulanzi Falcam F38. I was interested in that because I already own two Peak Design (PD) Capture clips...Pity that this quick release clamp doesn't accept the PD base plate, and that this PGYTECH base plate doesn't work with the PD clip. :(
Thanks for the videos on the Falcam & PGYTECH systems, very helpful. Have you tried replacing any of the tripod mounting screws with D-ring type screws? I've switched all of my L brackets and quick release plates to 3-way screws that can be tightened with the D-ring, a flat-headed screw driver or a hex wrench, very convenient.
Really appreciate the honest review! I was considering the Ulanzi claw, which kinda have a similar mechanism? However the anti loose feature on the PGYTECH is the deal breaker for me! Thanks for this video, it was worth the wait!
hi, thank you for the awesome feedback. I am sorry for the long wait. It's been hectic, but it was more time i got to test the system. I love the anti-loosen feature of the PGYTECH system. hands down the best yet.
Hey John this is a great video! I'm planning to buy the PGYTech clamp and use it with my Manfrotto tripod by replacing its proprietary plate. Can I just unscrew the Manfrotto plate and screw this one in? Or do I need to buy an adapter or something to make this work? Thanks in advance!
I am not sure of the manfrotto tripod. but you can either remove its plate and screw this one in, or just screw the PGY baseplate on top of the other one and use it that way. what i do with my tripod is get rid of the OEM one, clamp the baseplate of the PGYTECH into it, and then use the quick release that way.
Hey Grant! Thank you for trusting my review. I’ve used this adapter just about everyday! Thank you for watching!!!! New video coming soon about my fav vlogging tripod
Excellent and super useful video. Been using that snaplock system since it came out. Rock solid. Fitted my iFootage tripods with that, and the Pgytech plate fits the PeakDesign tripod nicely too (the PD plate however does not fit the Snaplock clamp). Was thinking of switching it all to the F38 system just because of their excellent Sony A74 cage, but after your previous video, i decided to pass and stick to the Pgytech snaplock system. And I since purchased their new Mantispod v2, which also has that same snaplock system.
With the F38 did you have a good bit of 'play' or 'wiggle' when your camera was mounted to your tripod. Is the Pgytech different/better? I'm thinking of going to a quick release arca plate system if I can't get something quick, easy and small to hold everything together tightly, as if the camera and tripod are all 1 piece when fully secured.
Awesome review and honest feedback. I wish you had an affiliate link so you could cash in on my purchase. Was waiting for this review and will definitely be investing in the system. Can't believe there aren't more comparison videos between these two systems. Thanks again!
hah thank you! i tried to set up an affiliate link once through amazon, but that didn't really yield much. but since you mentioned this, i am setting up an affiliate link with PGYTECH and see if they'll approve it. Please pass this video along to any of your friend who you think might benefit from it :) I'd love to review other products so any feedback about the video is appreciated!
have to say I find the different quick release systems really annoying... love the Peak Design capture clip, but they don't have a quick release that can be added to a tripod etc, PGYTech has a great quick release but the beetle buckle is awful and definitely cant trust the clamp mechanism on it... now to try the F38 quick release with the 2 in 1 plate that works with the peak design capture clip...
I think most of it has to do with design and proprietary. in my opinion, the PGYTech quick release is the best in the market right now. I don't have the beetle buckle, but considering getting it. I am glad you said something. I have heard many great things about the PD capture clip, but you're right, PGYTech and PD don't really play nice i don't htink.

I think you can use the PGYTECH baseplate and adapter on other arca swiss products, but i wouldn't go the other way since i don't know how well the locks will snap in.
What is that rubber cover flopping around on the bottom of your camera? Is that why you can't get most quick release plates to stay aligned on the bottom of your camera?

I have never tried this, but I am not sure id' recommend it. it seems like it's gonna be more trouble than it's worth. what I could do is mount the base (from Peak Design) to the base of the PGYTECH then just use the quick release / snap feature.

I think the F38 is only available if you buy the system for DJI gimbal. buying a standalone system is not available. I'd love to test them @ulanzi. I will check and see if the plate will fit the F38. I am doubtful.
I actually bought this set a while back trying to find a plate for my mini tripod/bluetooth stand for my sony. my biggest issue is you can't have the peak design loop snaps on the thing and put it in. I really wish something would be done about this universally, way too many awkward fits or lack of fits because of the peak design loops that i use for nearly everything strap related.

I haven't tried the claw system; however, the most valuable part of the PGYTECH system is the "anti-loosening" feature. It what makes the system worth every dime. The adapter plate will not loosen from the camera.
Hello @JohnLe 🙂 Wouldn't be afraid to use this system on the zhiyun crane 2s gimbal in vortex mode with a 3-4kg camera ? or what system do you recommend for maximum camera security ?

Hi John, I use the Ulanzi claw system and the biggest issue is how loosen the plate is. It can't stabilise my R6 vertically on the tripod. Do you recommend switching to the PGYTECH system?
Hi! I don't know how the PGYTECH plate will handle mounting in vertical mode. it's not made to support that kind of torque, though the plate will not come lose. If you need to go vertical, i'd recommend getting a cage and mounting it to the cage. then get the PGYTECH system to make it quick release. i can honestly say that I've been using this for weddings on weddings, and it hasn't come loose yet.
