As a black person at first I was a little iffy,I genuinely believe there was no racist/negative intention. I think it was all fun and games but I understand how it can be seen as distasteful .
What if hes supporting the message
@@RaheelPervaiz123 what message is he supporting isn’t he literally is mocking the him crow pose
Im not black but i agree although he did a mistake and im glad he apologized
literally
@@milkfirst6309 He didn't know about it clearly and that's important to consider. He also learned from his mistake.
Sis I didn’t even know that’s what that meant and I’m a full blooded American so how would his Korean/Australian ass know?everything can’t be him being racist
You’re a full blooded American & didn’t know about Jim Crow Laws & Segregation??? BULLSH*T!
I really don't know where he gets his rap inspiration from but if he got some of it from parts of the black community or if he has looked around some subcultures, he could've seen that even if he didn't know what it was.
Also it does seem somewhat specific, I think for him to perform that move he'd have to have seen it somewhere, but he also could've seen it before and forgotten what it meant but tought it was a fun move to I corporate.
I love Chan I really don't know if that was meant to be racist, I don't want reasons to hate him but I also don't want to look at this from a biased (no pun intended) perspective.
Also I am not black so I could be lacking some knowledge.
I don't think many of you know much about Chan. Chan is Korean and Australian, he was born in Australia but went to a Korean school where they don't teach American History so there is a huge chance, he had no idea and if he had known I know for a fact he wouldn't do that.
Even if he did go to school in Australia not even American schools teach real American history so what makes you think Australia will?💀
He's born in korea but he went in australia whene he was a child
expecting a korean-australian man to know about black-american history, yeah, makes sense
Absolutely! Especially since he's profiting off of black culture so he def shouldn't do his research about the culture he's using!
@@sleek4546 i was being sarcastic..
Yes I agree, the fact that he knows the song lyrics from the start of the song, he def knew what he was doing
@@sleek4546 lmao have you ever been in an American history class. Our stuff is white washed so bad, don't expect an Australian to know. Not to mention, am I supposed to look at a pose and think, 'oh shit, time to look at wtf the pose means', no, even I thought I was just a simple pose
Edit: sorry if that sounded rude, just realized. I know chan new to be hold accountable, plus he know what the song is centered on, but I've seen many other black stays not know the full history of Jim Crow. Knowing the law, but not the pose. Once again, really sorry.
@@quinnzel316 even tho you’re being sarcastic you’re still I right, we don’t learn about African-American history in Australia 🗿
from an uncultured black stays point of view, i saw this trending and didn’t know what the problem was until i realized it was the jim crow pose. the fact that i didn’t even know anything was wrong and i’m black, i gave him the old kpopie ‘he didn’t know’ excuse. as for him changing the lyrics, i don’t see that big of a problem. you could call it distasteful sure, but at the end of the day he was just having fun and playing around with a sensitive song. i’m pretty sure he would done the same with any song.
Took the words right out of my mouth
I thought the same thing but then I kinda realised he’s copying the moves so he must of seen the video and the video kinda deep
He kinda killed it tho😂
@@kadircrawford2589 uh...no
I would say the same honestly. I mean most of the people I know who are black doesn't even know about this pose and pretty much none of the american history education books I read for school even depict this picture or movement...... Movements and postures are popularized all the time and copied and incorporated into dances. and things may been taken out of context by a lot of people over the course of timeline. And obviously there are cases where songs came out and people doesn't know it was racist until someone else make a whole video depicting why it was racist and not everyone is gonna see that video. Most likely the chance Bang chan saw people dancing to the movements with the music is high and did it thinking it was alright, though obviously we should let him know what he did was wrong. I don't think he took it upon himself to act racist lol, especially on camera.
Edit: Chan already apologized and the apology is already publicized by other STAYS. And it's really depends if you want to accept it or not.
ALSO: I don't know if you guys even know, but that Jim Crow dance he did, happened literally 3 years ago, which is literally when they just debuted. Obviously time shouldn't be an excuse and that people have the right to be called out for it. And it's even better that people realized their past mistakes and apologized for it.
But we as people should also acknowleged that people can be educated, learn, and grow in the many years that went by.
As a black person I feel like so many black Americans need to realize not every single country knows about American history I'm literally American and I didn't even know who Jim Crow was until like last year💀 you can't expect someone to know your history simply because they speak English💀
That is a failed education system...but Africans Hispanics Native and black Americans have more history than just Jim Crow. Knowledge is super important to take in do some investigating...i learned that in 5th Grade.
In that show every member had a song that THEY DIDN’T choose, it’s not their variety show and then with that song they have to introduce themselves that’s why the lyrics where changed quickly at the moment, Chan didn’t think about it at the moment a lot because the exercise was spontaneus. I prefer to say that he was unconcious and stupid too, but not a racist.
you are so right
He didn't choose the song but he didnt have to do the pose.
@@LearningwithJay1 does he knew what it means? a lot of people doesn’t know till this day and is because it’s not common that every corporal movement in a music video or in a choreo has a specific meaning behind it like that one. The thing he knew what’s the hand thing so he changed it, but other than it’s absurd to assume that he knew the meaning of that pose…
@@nahomyduarte2379 it doesn’t matter if he “didn’t” knew it not like?
Doesn’t matter if he didn’t know the pose was unnecessary he’s fluent in English he should understand what the song means
So we're gonna act like he's intentionally making the Jim Crow pose and not referencing the pose that Childish Gambino made in the video that was also referenced in this video? Yeah that's the pose CB made but it's not exactly the most obvious thing in the video. I didn't even get the reference the first time I seen it. I'm sure most of yall didn't either. So you're all racist for not knowing it too right?
To top that off he just riffed off of the beat and was being stupid. You all will find anything to cancel someone over. Anti's coming out the woodwork.
y’all have got to stop coddling these people 🤦🏽♀️ “antis” and it’s about racism 😭😭 if he wants to profit off of black american culture so bad he can do his damn research on what he’s dancing to.

i seriously doubt that he wouldve known
I’m an asian raised in my home country and I honestly do not have a clue on who tf or wtf jim crow is so watching this confused me more
AFTER TWO YEARS???????
?
Idk if it’s just me but i feel as if the word mocked is harsh because i don’t think he was doing it in a hateful way at all maybe the word mimics would fit better and help clear the message of him just being ignorant and not blatantly racist because i feel like that’s the reason he changed the move from a gun to a thumbs up was because he didn’t wanna represent the actual message of the song because he did know the context of the song just not the context of the moves, so on his ignorance i will hold him accountable and let him get shamed on but personally i forgive the man. Especially with his apology he got banned for.
Yeah I agree people took it the wrong way what in that video shows that's he's hating on it or showing or saying anything bad ab it

they don't teach this stuff in other countries(like Korea, in this case) and the rest of the world is not "woke and educated" on matters that did not really had an impact on each others country and they are not obligated to either, just like the gringos don't know half the history of Hispanic or Asian countries(e.g.) yet they like to take our music, our culture, our traditions, damn sometimes they even make fun of us and nobody likes to talk about it.
please do better everyone🧡🧡
He watched the video…the video is full of black adults and children being killed while addressing the issues in America. Clearly he knew,,y’all are just brainless and can’t use logic. As much as I love StrayKids and Bangchan…he knew and I can admit that he was wrong. Stop using the “we don’t learn about this” or “this doesn’t happen in Korea” it’s common sense that he watched the music video being that he knew the pose and that it was done in the music video..I mean the pose was done to kill a black man. If you’re not an African American..I truly don’t think it’s your place to victimize him for not knowing the background especially being that you’re uneducated on the subject and made this about Hispanics and Asians when we are speaking about an African American historical pose with lots of background being mocked. Like I said apart of standing your favorite groups is educating them and explaining why it is wrong..although black people are not obligated to explain anything to a non black person who is uneducated…we all have the internet and Bangchan grew up in Australia where he had access to diversity and the internet.
When I saw the This is America mv I had no idea that pose had ANY type of reference, US is not the center of the universe and not everyone knows everything about American culture lmao get over yourselves
Same, I mean most of the people I know who are black doesn't even know about this pose and pretty much none of the american history education books I read for school even depict this picture or movement...... @@nozomiyu-chan2335 yup this is what I think too
@@catttyun I just realized, that song actually came out in 2017(same and closed month when Bang Chan danced to it) , and that song if you checked, was highly popularized. And the idea of people dancing to it is VERY high. So Bang Chan probably thought it was a popularized movement and song. And just imagined with tiktok, which came out the same year as well.
Adding on, I only seen people making videos depicting the meaning of the song and the posture after the song came out. As an American myself it was my first time knowing of this posture due to Bang chans case and went to look at the videos of the song.
Obviously if people felt what he did was wrong, it's good to call him out on it and let him know. Educate him! But was it necessary for people to go as far as giving, death threats, telling them to disband, or calling the whole group racist.
That's just my thought process, though.
as a black person who isn’t so involved in the kpop community and is only now learning about the various problematic incidents, it genuinely looks like he was just copying what he saw. not out of bad intention but maybe just copying it like how some copy a choreo? i’ve heard that he apologised but we should at least take into consideration that what other countries history teaches students isn’t the same everywhere in the world and may have not been aware of the historical meaning behind it. i also heard that they did not choose the songs. i don’t think it was performed with negative intent whatsoever but may have been for fun and games. although i hope shows like these really take into account meanings behind songs and choose it based on what the meaning is so we don’t run into problems like these. i wouldn’t call it mocking but it isn’t the right thing to do either.
this is by no means defending Chan but he does need to be held accountable for what he’s done.
and about the lyric changing situation. just by listening to the song, definitely don’t do that. you don’t even need to know the context to know that you shouldn’t do that. definitely a very horrible thing to do on his part.
Not taking up for him, but did he know the history or meaning to this dance? I mean sometimes we think people know but I’m not really sure, I mean you can point out if they are educated about black history or not. I’m just saying. Some idols know what they are doing and some don’t know.
I didn’t know that the dance he was doing was a Jim Crow dance either and I’m black😭

Also I’m not hating on him but I’m not defending him either. As a black stay I’m very disappointed but Chan’s not racist, I just think he should have been more educated. And he did apologize but I just hope this doesn’t happen again.

Chan may have been born in Australia, but by the time he was at the age that there was a chance he could have learned about this topic in school, he was already a trainee in Korea. I know for a fact that the don’t talk about stuff like this in Korea and maybe not even Australia. I don’t normally like to use the they didn’t know excuse, but it’s very plausible that he actually didn’t know. Even my full on American self didn’t know, so how could he, a Korean Australian, know?
I mean.. It is a really sensitive song and though many don't know the deep history behind it but we all still know it's about racism and many dark topics
