- The CSX fleet of heritage locomotives is growing again with the introduction of CSX 1897, painted in a custom design honoring the Monon Railroad. Also known as The Hoosier Line and the Chicago, Indianapolis, and Louisville Railway, the Monon Railroad connected Chicago and Louisville, operating almost entirely in Indiana. In 1971, the railroad merged into the L&N Railroad which ultimately became part of today’s CSX. Honestly, if this was painted into a full scheme, I think this would make a great standard livery for every CSX locomotive. Just replace the Monon with CSX and you’d have a locomotive that really has that industrial feel
They could just put CSX on the other side, then paint the whole thing
Or went the UP route, Paint it like the original but put CSX somewhere... or replace one Monon w/ CSX

Here is a classic. This is also my favorite.
The black and gold looks more befitting for a freight locomotive. Great job as always. No complaints on how you do those HU’s
This livery also makes Purdue Boilermakers fans and Purdue alumni grinning from ear to ear!
The black and gold paint scheme was actually used for the freight equipment on the railroad! It makes a lot of historical sense to use that livery.

Thank you so much for making this heritage unit! My great grand father worked on the Monon, and I want to give everyone there at CSX credit for this amazing locomotive.

The CSX has done an excellent job on their heritage locomotives. I look forward to the next ones.
That is one sharp locomotive. I will also vote with those who suggest that CSX adopt the MONON colors as its standard road colors. You can even replace the “big blue” boxcar colors with it while you are at it!
This is another great look CSX Heritage unit. I am looking forward to seeing more of these units in the rails in the future.

RF&P, Family Lines, Pere Marquette and Western Maryland are stenciled and confirmed so far

Hi CSX, I'm just wondering if you could paint the PENN CENTRAL heritage unit green like the PENN CENTRAL coaches. We already have a black PENN CENTRAL heritage unit and I think that's enough black ones. We don't need 2 black ones, but 1 black and 1 green. I'm not a fan of black, but I love bright green. It looks great. It does. But, honestly… It would’ve looked EVEN BETTER if only you guys had painted the cab, in the Monon colors, as well. Just say’n. 🤷🏼♂️
