I was 17 when i went to Fort Benning.. I remember doing this and man i was nervous especially at the fact as im hanging off the wall that the drill sargeant was telling me my knot was tied wrong...also made me recite the soldiers creed before repelling... good times
I went through bootcamp with an overweight guy who had to get a waiver for it with a last name "Pile" just remember that if you ever have a hard time going through basic.

@@natsudragneeljaydee1055 haha my lead drill sargent wasentthe one on top of the jacob ladder for me but a diffrent one of the secound platoon he wasent as harsh he just said do you want to pass this or give up in a stern voice and the guy who hooked me up on the wasent even a drill sarg for my bct compny he basicaly said the same the same thing but less stern XD but to me id rappel any day i hate being in heights with no teather it freaks me out so for me even now i have to do the jacob ladder again later today secound time since basic but it still makes me nervouse even tho ill be fine and do it like last time and not show as much fear as i did in BCT telling my drill sarg im scared of heights lol. tho if my head drill sarg was on the rappel he would of lol he was a mean bastard but he should be thats his job and he was a combat vetran in the invastion of iraq and was a marine before he reenlisted in the army after his contract ended scary dude lol man was a giant XD but im proud he was my head drill for me we where 1st platoon

I remember in southern Germany cfb Lahr the repelling tower was open to all when not in use . On weekends we would go out there and do it over and over for fun and experiment. Australia craw was one .

They changed it when I was there an 02 there was a rope and a slight incline you had to climb up the rope with a huge ass pad at the bottom just in case you fell... I know I fell on the way down lost a lil skin on my hands trying to grab the rope
Yea, they really did. They replaced it with the 100 yards. The 100 yards is the lamest thing...the preparation for it was trash since it’s new they might make it better. All that happens is they play some noise in the background and you carry some equipment down they yell at you a little but they yell at the group as a whole...they do a little introduction after with some guns smoke grenades some tracer bullets that was the cool part, but we didn’t get smoked badly during...it was day 1 training more like a cool introduction. Remember these drill sergeants hate some of the changes as much as you so a lot of them still might say fuck it get in your face yell and pretty much shark attack you without a shark attack... so many more rules so they try to get around it still. My company was mostly SF and ranger and 95% of them been to combat so they definitely didn’t treat us soft. No shark attack but they still got in ur face and smoked the shit out of us often. It’s still a good experience just make sure u don’t get an integrated unit I had an all male unit & go infantry. Really depends on your company/platoon ur in.

As I was getting into the L shape position, he screamed "NOOOO!!!!" at the top of his lungs. I nearly lost my grip on the rope. He called me several colorful names and ordered me to get off his tower. When I got to the bottom, he said it was cute that I made it down, but I got a no go for kicking his Gatorade bottle off. I had to do it a second time. 😂
Friend of mine forgot to respond lane one on belay, drill sergeants looked at him for a good 15 seconds until one of them grabbed him by the ach and bumped him into the wall, ahh great times

No, not sure the exact reason we switched away as I used Swiss seats multiple times , but I assume it was something to do with safety and speed. Trying to get 240 trainees through in a day can cut it close.
It seems intimidating but you get a little practice on the mini tower to understand the concept and once you trust your equipment and yourself your good! I used to be hesitant at first too but I just can hook up and go now.
Myself and most guys in my unit felt that all the fear goes away when you get into the L position or past the wooden bar. The hardest part is climbing up the ladder where you're not attached to any safety. My hands sweat just thinking about that damn ladder.
I mean “staged” isn’t necessarily the right word but yes , when I filmed they usually did tone it down, also I selected the footage and had to go through and throw out footage that was “too much”

I was at Fort Benning in the 1980's for basic training and AIT. They didn't have the eagle tower. Of course things do change over the years.

I, as a civilian, was able to work my up to a 100ft vertical rappel. It's definitely scary. But once you get the hang of it's pretty fun.

Nice 👍🏻 When we did our forge for our Soldiers it rained both cycles during the forge so we had to scrap the tower the second time. This is A 1-50.

I don't think it's a good idea to be aggressive with guys who are repelling for the first time. They can break their neck if they screw up.
