Most of the patches in this video I build live from scratch, and I would love to hear your opinion about what do you think is better, to build the example patches from scratch, or to explain about an already built patch (using arrows and such). There is also a downside, of course, it means that the videos will be somehow longer. Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts :) Cheers!
Bro I was gonna ask if you somehow process your audio when putting the video together^ Cause it seems like your patches just sound better than mine haha In terms of individual sounds etc :) Thanks for all your videos by the way
building from scratch makes it easier to mentally chart a signal flow in more complex patches, to me at least. i've been wearing this module out since it was released but i knew i was only using some of the features, thanks for the video!
Thanks, man! Well, the only real process is on the voiceover like noise reduction, compression, eq and so on. I don't do anything for the VCV Rack sound though, it's all Rack :) Cheers!
That's excellent! Thank you so much for the feedback and the kind words :) I also think it's easier to watch a patch being built, but I'm afraid to bore people, so I'm happy you find it better :)
The part of taking to the scope first, then explaining why. I’m not even done and I’m commenting, I can’t wait to get out of bed and do my own patches..see I had a six inch tumor removed from stomach and I’m alive. Physically and I’m very emotional from this music and art. More to come...24:44 THIS IS VERY NICE, understated as usual. Who knew you could make stages a triple lfo sequencer unto itself...?? I may need to add a hardware version to my rack !
I'm just now getting rolling with modular and, fortunately, found VCV Rack early on. More fortunately, I came across your work. I'm happy to become a patron. Thanks for everything you do.
just found you Omri! so, im going through pretty much all of your content. as a vcv beginner, your 'build from scratch' stuff is incredibly educational for me! happily a patron! thanks for taking the time to produce so much content!
i enjoy the from scratch videos, i like to hear your thought process and to hear your reaction to what the rack is doing as you build it. I think it gives me a much better idea for what to do differently to get the result i want or just to explore. I always start my own patch from scratch based on what you've shown, rather than downloading your patch and tweaking it. Thanks so much for making these videos, they really help.
Excellent, Ben! Thank you for the feedback :) For me, the process of building a patch is really fun and surprising, so it's nice to share this with other people. I'm really glad you enjoy this! Cheers :)
At least i like and enjoy the way you explain all from scratch, helps a lot on giving more uses to the modules i already use, thanks a lot, greetings from spain ;)
I also prefer the from scratch videos. It is better to know all the functions of the modules and also gives me inspiration to try using them on my own patches. Thanks again for the videos!
Thanks for the feedback, Francisco! I was a bit afraid that people will find it somewhat boring, but I got a lot of good feedback so I will build most, if not all, of the patches in the next videos from scratch. I will also try to use different modules, so it's not so repetitive. Cheers!
You have no idea! Also my wife finds your accent quite soothing, we needed this silky tutorial in my life right now, and yes Im, up slaving to the craft on surgery medicine doing what I can when I can, this is my first go at patching these modules. Thank you for the samples, www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/657811 is my actual rack I am listening via bridge to Live suite 9.7.7 *I havent made the jump to 10yet as I bought Logic 10.4.2 first (oops now im on windows again) and an ES-8 I get a little lag, I would love you to put your hardware specs for your machine you make these patches on? Do you freeze or have a lot of ram? I have 16gb doesn't seem to do it (Lenovo Yoga 920 w10pro )
Oh man you have a nice case! Mother32 AND O-coast! Wow, what sonic possibilities you've got there... Care to share some sounds? I'm using a really old laptop actually, on Windows 7. I have just 6gb ram and this is my processor - i5-2410M CPU @ 2.3GHz... I'm planning on getting a new one soon, we'll see. I can build relatively "big" patches because I set the block size in vcv all the way up. I have a lot of latency, but that's the only way I can use it... And I'm glad you find my accent soothing :) I should get a new mic also sometime, so I can get even better results recording my voice. Cheers man, and again, all the best!
aha so 32gb is NOT required and the latency is normal! I am putting some videos and sounds on Soundcloud and just honestly starting to be even physically able to do anything I have to go in baby steps ( literally sometimes) Check your bandcamp page ;-) nice tip may be found and thank YOU again
Hey Rick, wow, thank you so much! What can I say, I'm happy you enjoy what I do, and I really appreciate your support! Stay strong and when time comes, share your musical adventures with us :) Thanks again!
I very glad you're coming back to Audible instruments to cover these later additions. When I first tried using this module I could tell it was powerful by how little I understood how to use it. I felt like an elephant trying to learn piano. I love the from scratch videos, but I suspect that's moreso because I've only a novice level of understanding. So some of the more repetitive elements to someone with a more experienced understanding of modular might be tired of seeing a technique or process I've only done a handful of times.
Hi Cory! I'm glad you liked it, and I have a feeling that this is not the last Audible Instruments video I'm going to do :) And I really appreciate the feedback, I also think that maybe, for advanced users, most of the patching will be boring, so I hope to get also feedback from someone more experienced, hearing what he\she thinks. Thanks again and cheers!
Brilliant as always! Just today I thought I might use a bit more control over the envelope than just plain ADSR, and I couldn't be more happier, Stages is just the right fit, and you did an amazing job of going over all the ways it can fit in patches :) Couldn't imagine a better tutorial. Thank you!
thanks so much omri! been waiting for this one. could not figure this module out even with the manual. even watching the actual eurorack tutorials aren't this helpful. great work
Thanks so much! I'm happy I could help :) For me, it's easier to understand something with a video, and that's why I'm making videos, hopefully, to help other people. And there are a few differences between the hardware and the vcv version, so I thought it would be interesting to make a video about it. And also, in vcv, I can build whole patches while explaining, unlike with hardware that the patches are usually rather small.
when it became clear stages was coming to vcv rack i dived into manuals and youtubes about the rl module so i'd be ready once this module was released so i knew big part of what it does. when the waiting was over i was very happy.. and then cherry on top a bulky omri youtube \o/ have to say, still learned some from you. thank you for that. your tutorial is so indepth i know i'll be watching it in the future as a reference, refresher or simply as inspiration on a rainy day. as far as building patches from scratch i'd say please do. i do see how prebuild examples can make your youtubes more compact but in the process of patching you explain so many 'little' things that make a big difference. often small stuff that arent even related much to the topic you're explaining. maybe a silly example but you explain what the coloured shape/time time/level dots indicate. it makes so much sense and its so easy to miss, while so helpful to know. we all have our ways of creating a patch.. little 'tricks' and to-go-to's, so for me its cool to see how others, and you, do that. for me personally that's what makes your examples nice to watch. it's awesome you're still trying to make your content better even with it being already very good. so all the love and good.. and happy patching :D

Oh yes, and also looping envelopes so you can create some weird funky lfo shapes... The nice thing about the hardware version, is that you can chain a few of them and have crazy modulation sources like 12 stages envelopes and such, and you can also play the glide\time knobs live (also with the mouse you can but it's less fun), so you can really add variation to your sequences. Cheers!
Advice. If you want to be more friendly to beginners. Do less complex patching. I was with you until you went to a multi from the quantizer. Then you added a different pitch via another FM osc, and that was VERY confusing. Unless you're trying to teach more complex methods, then my bad. Merci!

What is the purpose of mults in VCV? In physical rack they are necessary, but in VCV rack they do nothing. In VCV all you have to do is pull another signal out cable out of the same output.
You're totally right, but there are actually 2 reasons why I (usually) use splitters. First of all, it's easier for me visually to see where each cable is going, especially in bigger patches, and I don't have to spend too much time following cables, which is actually harder in rack because you cannot touch them and follow with your palm. what does he mean by "quantise upwards" when he chages the mode to that on the quantiser?
Well, for example, if the voltage coming in lands somewhere between G and A. If it's set to quantize up, the quantizer will 'correct' the voltage to A. If it's set to quantize down, it will 'correct' the voltage to G. Does this make sense?

can anybody tell me y the peaks generated by the envelopes in STAGES are lower than any other env. gen. in vcv rack?
As far as I know, the range of the Mutable Instruments plugins is 0-8 in hardware so it's the same in vcv.
@@OmriCohen-Music so any suggested way to make its peak same as others? or there is actually no difference?

It's in the Valley collection, together with Grids and Dexter. Must-have modules! - vcvrack.com/plugins.html#valley
good stuff
Thank you, Ben!
Didn’t realise stages could be six individual lfo’s think I’ll have to get the hardware version.
Cheers!
ducking vcv audio when speaking makes it comfortable to watch, nice
Hey, thanks! I'm happy to hear that 🙂
Hooooly sh.t actually first !
Great Tutorial btw man ! ^
Thanks so much, Artem!
Advice. If you want to be more friendly to beginners. Do less complex patching. I was with you until you went to a multi from the quantizer. Then you added a different pitch via another FM osc, and that was VERY confusing. Unless you're trying to teach more complex methods, then my bad. Merci!
Thank you for the feedback! Have a look here, I have some dedicated videos for beginners - ruclips.net/p/PLiECaNQx239s0Z1WmH5jQAcEZf3mLLHnX
