Though it was smooth, couple of throw away tracks and some lackluster performances from Drake, but really liked the vibe throughout. Dont think your review was spot on at all, basically boiling it down to boring, no effort and too much autotune. It is obviously a stylistic choice and i felt liked it really suited the beats. Also i liked that Drake didn´t blew up his ego the entire time like Scorpio and CLB

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Honestly, Nevermind. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of Rhyme schemes and wordplay most of the punchlines will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Drake's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his songs- his personal philosophy draws heavily from 2pac and Bigge style, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just lit- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Honestly, Nevermind truly ARE idiots. of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Drake's existencial catchphrase "Your pussy is callin' my name, So come on, baby, let's stop playing games" which itself is a cryptic reference to Bigg's song Drownin'. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Drake's genius worldplay unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Honestly, Nevermind tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

And I think a lot of that was having expectations that I would receive an album full of "Jimmy Cooks" After a couple days and a few solo night drives with this album on, I do think it's a very emotional, very subtle, take on his real self. This is an album you listen to when you're vulnerable and just kinda think about that flame that is now extinguished.

What was said at the beginning when talking about the first few tracks is dead on. It's the most inoffensive background music you could make. Just stuff to play while you're focused on doing other things to the point you forget the music is even there. It's essentially one of those "rap but make it lo fi" mixes you see every now and again. But that doesn't mean it's good, its just an insanely boring project that you kind of have to force yourself to get through if you are actually trying to listen to it.

This album is a new standard-bearer for "beat selection" for which there are two paragons.
    1. Madvilliany, where the marriage of instrumental and vocal are so fantastically realized that almost every beat is matched by an exceptional display of rhythm, flow, lyricism, and melody. And now...
    2. Honestly, Nevermind where the project is devoid of positives that the only work worthy of praise was given to the artists who were paid a few thousand to hand off their work for a performance that punches so below their weight class that they're 40-year old men bullying 3rd graders.

My best guess as to why he made this album.. He's bored and he knows controversy sells.. He'll use the hate he gets from this album to gas himself up on the next album where he'll now have the ability to feel like the underdog again. He'll talk a bunch of smack and about how we forgot he's the best and he'll give the people what they want to hear 😐 Maybe this is simply a calculated play.. Maybe.. Otherwise it's trash
3 songs in and I turned it off and went to bed. Woke up the next day and forced myself to listen to it the whole way through. Tried a couple more times while driving to work to see if I could get a better feel for it.. Nope, still trashed.

Lmao wrote this after watching it but before it went premiere: It annoys me that braindead Drake stans excuse this album by saying "It's just house, you have to do xyz to enjoy it"
    a) Disrespectful to artists putting out amazing dance music right now and the trailblazers. By saying something's "just" house, you're implying that it is lesser than other types of music
    b) Even if you're saying it's house music, it is the lowest effort house music possible. Drake hasn't changed to fit the genre he's just put Take Care Rnb vocals over a house beat. Can't blame him for getting an easy cheque though
    c) Saying that you need to do certain things to enjoy a dance album is just untrue, and proves that these people claiming to be so musically enlightened are actually completely unfamiliar with the genre claim to "get"

Pretty much I like 3 songs from the second half, mostly from the instrumentals. The problem with that is no one’s going to try getting through the first half lol. Drake doesn’t really add much to the majority of the songs. There’s potential, just Drake doesn’t change even though his instrumentals do.

I saw someone say this and now i feel like theres no way this is what he is doing but a bold experimental strategy: what if he made all his best music, knew that he was out of ideas and slowly started making his albums worse and worse so that you appreciate each prior album that much more lmao like "Yo, i thought CLB was bad but i appreciate the hell out of it after listening to this." lol
I dont think this album is "bad". i think this album is, like you mentioned, very uninspired and the product of this man having seemingly nothing left to prove and way too much time on his hands with no real sense of purpose or direction with his music. It feels like he said "I just wanna make good music with no pressure that you can go out and vibe too" but instead of a very specific approach to craft an album that sounds effortless and like a random night out of fun, he just created a random, sloppy mess of half-baked potential.

As a fan of house music, I’m actually quite frustrated that this album is going to be an introduction to House for a lot of people, and a lot of people are going to walk away with negative opinions of the genre firmly imprinted upon them, thinking this is what the genre has to offer. This was his chance to put the at the centre of popular culture and shine a spotlight on it. With his endless resources, he should’ve done the genre justice and made something undeniable. To me, this project was the beginnings of a great album that was never finished…

The problem is here the songs are forgettable and boring, the former has bangers throughout and I still distinctly remember tracks. I think this album tries to bring dancehall and house together. Maybe not well, but it's not pure house at all, it is something different. It was really good for driving at night vibes, much better than when I was paying attention and I can see that's what they're probably going for. In my opinion people take this way too serious..
Personally i just like what i like and i do not care if someone put crazy effort in the music.
If the outcome feels good to me and the artist worked weeks on one track - great!
If the outcome feels good to me and the artist worked 4hours on one track - also great!
Listened to the whole album twice and loved the vibe - it's just so relaxing - it doesn't need deep lyrics or crazy experimental beats.
Also had certain songs on repeat the last days - A Keeper | Sticky | Falling Back | Massive | Currents.
When CLB dropped TSU was one of my favorites and i wanted to hear more of a drake rapping over this chill asl instrumentals!
Maybe i have bad taste or some but i actually really like the project..

All for experimentation but like some experiments they fail. It's a lifeless album. Drake is overthinking it, trying too hard to be a buffet artist; mixing so much into his pallet. It's sad because he's a good artist but is becoming too saturated in sounds that don't fit him. Like a puzzle piece in the wrong spot. Since he's Drake no one is telling him no and people will continue to push him on radios, but really he needs failure to learn from and evolve into making better more inspiring music. And no, dumping tons of music is not the answer. Take your time Drake and be true to what got you there and kept you there. Don't be a brand churning out product, be an artist who creates for passion

    • @a1997
      @a1997 2 года назад

The unfortunate thing is him being the only an artist for passion days is over. He really has nothing to prove anymore now. You can argue that he does but from his p.o.v. he really doesn’t. And that's why he's now only chasing the bag. I feel he still loves making music but not enough to take his time to work extra hard to make something truly as beautiful as Take Care/NWTS. Maybe one day as his final album before retiring he might give us something as close to Take Care/NWTS but we're not getting that anytime soon.
