What we need in this hobby is a harlequin shrimp rental service.
lol great business idea! 😂😂
Nudibrancs too
I am sure you could just pay it forward
Love them shrimp! you should see the size my local fish store has people bring him back when they rid there tank of starfish and hes huge !
Your fish look happy. Been there with the star fish got a harlequin shrimp he sorted them in a month or two. I think it helps letting them really build up before getting one then start advertising for the next person to take him after you collect.
Easy fix.. first, always get 2 Harley’s they don’t live long alone and feed them , my lfs sells asterina 5 for a 1 dollar. I get 4$ worth dump them in all at once and it last me a month for 2 harly shrimps.
I find removal of them when the lights go out to help quite a bit!!! If you don’t want to use a harlequin shrimp…
How to keep a Harlequin Shrimp fed:
A. Buy starfish to sacrifice.
B. Build a 200 gallon Asterina Starfish tank and transfer a handful daily to the main tank.
Personally, I couldn’t sacrifice the non-pest starfish. There’s no way I could watch the shrimp munch on a nice starfish for days.
And I’m pretty sure a dedicated Asterina tank would have to be 5 times bigger than the main, just to keep up.
There is an option 3….. just buy asterina from your lfs, they sell 5-10 for a dollar.
I like asterinas in my tanks. I used to have thousands of micro brittles in my old 90 gallon about 10 years ago. It was cool watching them come out at night. Thay never caused any issues. Granted I preferred the micro brittles over the asterinas.
Tang Patrol here!! That yellow Tang needs a 300g tank 😂 jk beautiful tank homie
thank you!
How do you keep alk , calcium , and magnesium levels in check?
I dose alk and calcium -- I don't do anything with mag, last I checked I run a bit high on it
Hi! I’m starting my first saltwater tank I got a Fluval flex.. what do you recomend as first steps or what to add first after the tank cycles ?
Your BMW for the win, as opposed to the LFS.
You have a galaxy of starfish for now.
Set up another tank that produces starfish for that cute guy
Quais os parâmetros do seu aquário?
Tang patrol 😂😂😂😱
Hay you going to reef show sat?
yes ill be out there!
What lights do you use ?

@@Saltwater1010 Thanks.
Could suck um up during water changes
I do haha they still multiply like crazy!
Sell him or rent him out to a local reefer. That’s all you can really do
Cool tank and corals look awesome! "Harley" looks really cool! Shouldn't you have drip acclimated him to your aquarium water before putting him into your tank?
I don't drip acclimate anymore.. I always temp acclimate and sometimes I acclimate by mixing a bit of my tank water into the bag in little portions ever like 5-10 minutes, I probably should have done that with this guy but to be honest I forgot lol
@@DreamStateLiving I understand completely. I have been doing freshwater for many years and switched over to saltwater 6 months ago. I find all of your videos very helpful. Since saltwater is not as forgiving as freshwater, I have made a point to drip acclimate any fish I put into my tanks. Especially after I found out my LFS keeps their salinity at 1.021 and pH and alkalinity lower than mine. Corals I just dip in Coral Rx and don't acclimate. I am just getting over an intense Dino (Large Cell Amphidinium) outbreak that built up over the course of a month and covered 90% of my sand and rocks. I initially thought it was Diatoms and treated with ChemiClean, which did nothing so I knew it was Dinos. Turns out my tank was too clean with zero phosphates and nitrates. LOL After purchasing a microscope to determine the type of Dino, within 1 WEEK I was completely able to eliminate LCA Dinos which is the non-UV type! If it will help any of your viewers, I did a combination of several things... 1) turned off the white lights completely and only ran blue lights; 2) increased water flow by adding another powerhead 3) increased phosphates to .07 and nitrates to 15 ppm and tested daily; 4) ran UV sterilizer 24/7; 5) lowered the skimmer power so it did not consume as much nutrients 6) changed filter sponges in overflow daily 7) added a dozen Money Cowrie snails (known to eat dinos), sand sifting starfish, Sea Cucumber, and sand sifting Goby all to keep the sand bed constantly mixing 8) added Tisbee Pods (known to eat dinos) and dosed Live Phytoplankton daily 9) Lastly, I purchased a 5 micron filter sock and siphoned the top layer of gravel that had the dinos on it using a small 1/2" hose through the filter sock and into a container. I did the siphoning to remove the dinos three separate times (half the tank first day, the other half second day, and third day to get what was left). I then took the sand that was siphoned out and treated it with 12% Hydrogen Peroxide to kill anything and then rinsed it in RODI water. If the Dinos were still coming back, the next step would have been to add Silicates to force a Diatom outbreak to outcompete the Dinos, but that was going to be my last resort. I wanted to share this because I just beat these Dinos fairly easily and I know it is something that SO MANY reefers deal with and it can take several weeks, if not months to beat. A big shout out to Mack's Reef Dinos Support Group Facebook page. The information I received from them was invaluable and helped me coordinate a plan of attack. They say that Dinos is the Reef Hobbyist Killer because so many people leave the hobby after a Dino outbreak, but I was determined not to let that happen! Happy reefing!
