Oh my hubby popped his head round the corner of my room I was watching this in…he heard the word marzipan…He’s excited.. I got to make it now…🏴👍🏴
This looks delicious! I've had steamed buns and steamed pancakes in Chinese meals, but I never thought about making a pudding like this. Of course, now I'm thinking about the puddings I read about in 19th century novels. Thank you for this recipe and video. Often SEEING something made makes all the difference in a successful dish.
Many years ago we had a friend who would make a cranberry steamed pudding for New Years Eve. He’s make a sauce of a cup each of butter, cream and sugar. So rich but so delicious. To my surprise I found the recipe in an old cookbook my mother had. I never made it but we had a great time celebrating with this friend and his wife.
How many families get a nice steamed pudding these days? Probably those little microwave ones from the supermarket maybe. The time it takes to cook makes it a weekend pudding. I used to always do a treacle sponge for my Dad when he came visiting. Real treat he loved. Memories. Thanks. Cheryl.
I was taught to make a 'handle' with the string by crossing it loosely over the top of the basin, threading it under the string and making a knot. Use the handle to lower the basin into the steamer, and lift it out after cooking.very handy when your pudding bo only just fits into your steamer
Ohhhh, my goodness !!! I have never even heard of this luscious dreamlike pudding. I didn’t know such a thing existed. This lovely dessert would be enough to convince me to forsake my US citizenship and relocate to Scotland. Of course... it might be more sensible, and more financially responsible, to just follow Cheryl’s recipe and make it in my own kitchen.
You can't beat a lovely homemade steamed sponge pudding, I used to make one each week when my children were growing up, and tried to do different flavours for them. Yummy 😋
OMG - it looks heavenly! My mum used (not often) to make steam puddings and pour over it hot jam just like you did. Probably one of the tastiest memories from my childhood. But she used marge instead of butter, which is frowned on today. This was the late 50s and 60s so you can't really blame her!
My mother did the same, but it's because they were raised during the depression, it was what they knew. Then, in the 70s, doctor started telling people that Oleo and margarine were better than butter. So we shunned butter for 20 years.
Hi Cheryl looks delish. I good alternative to Christmas pud, maybe a tablespoon or two of cherry liquor added to the sauce for the festivities. Yummy❤❤❤
I’ve been looking forward to this one & it looks absolutely delicious Cheryl, would like to give this recipe a try, as the dark cherry 🍒 & almond flavour combination sounds truly scrumptious!😋 (It also matches your nail Polish colour 💅 atm! 😍) Just wondered if you’ve tried making a steamed pudding in your Cosori Pressure Cooker yet, I need to look into how long it takes to cook under pressure & if it affects the texture of the pudding.🤔 As always thanks for sharing 🙏, & enjoy the rest of your week. xx 👩🏻🍳👌👍💖
I’m relatively new to your channel. I’m from the mountains of North Carolina. Folks here in Appalachia have their own style of cooking, and I’m always interested in learning how others do it.
That looks so nice Cheryl. I love cherries 🍒 so this is up my street. I woukd have it with ice cream or cream ( or both why not !! ) husband would want it with custard. Looks easy to make as well. You akways think of steamed puddings as a bit of a faff to make but obviously I'm wrong as this 1 very straightforward. Thanks for sharing Cheryl. I've made your homity pie for tea tonight, not made it for ages & had cream & parsley for a recipe had some left to use up , had all the other ingredients so homity pie with beans for tea. And will be leftovers to freeze as well.
WOW, that looks bl00dy amazing - I'm sooo jealous (can't get cherry jam, glace cherries or marzipan where I live 😢 so sadly, not something I'll be able to make) and I bet it tasted FANTASTIC! Well done and best wishes x

Can I make this in a crockpot Or instant pot?
Were you to use a serrated (bread) knife to cut it, it wouldn't crumble. Looks divine!
