I have learned that I may always have insane thoughts.....the difference now I don't let those insane thoughts turn into an act or action......as long as they stay inside my head and I don't act upon them I will always live a better life…...wished I had known that 40 years ago.....
this is a nice testimony about addiction. As an avid A&E intervention viewer it seems like all of those addicts always have the same story all of the attics families are divorced and they were are all molested as children. addiction I would imagine could be a very scary thing after watching this guy story. he was never molested or anything growing up and seem to have very good morals ethics and values but addiction still got him.

Very intelligent and humble seeming guy. I like the ethos of AA - to find a God of your own understanding and surrender your addiction. Unfortunately I am not at that stage yet - to surrender this addiction and admit my powerlessness. I can't yet. I'm sure there will come a point for me though, hopefully. Akulina11 we are smart people and usually in what I have seen can have a tendency to be quite stubborn. when I stopped and hit bottom I realized I wasn't as smart as I thought I was. I swallowed my pride and asked for help. I got it. I know now that I couldn't do it myself. it's been a few years now and I swear to you honestly that life is so much better now. it wasn't anywhere close to easy. and I didn't expect it to be. But I made it when so many of my friends didn't. I don't question it but I am grateful every day for what I have gotten back. support of others was my key. Try AA it really does work. If you work it. Honest
Just know that you ARE powerless in the face of it. That point for you might be your death or the destruction of a relationship you hold dear. I hope you understand that.
i think , it is good that people want and ask for help, is AA the only route that is available to the alcoholic. Are there other organisations. Just curious. I am not asking for myself , just out of interest.

I use to drink every day when i joined the Army just to go to sleep no PTSD i just had problems with sleeping and one day i just stopped couldn't deal with the morning shits and seeing empty bottles
@@mikegoblue68 when you say something suggestive to a teenager or child you risk causing them to believe, consciously or subconsciously, that it is inevitable. We see this happen all the time with cancer patients who ask 'how much time do I have left'. Then they die right within that time frame. The patient who does not ask and does not want to know may live two or three times longer than the patient who thinks they have an expiration date.
Go well brother. There is only one thing I get confused about. They say alcohol is a disease, but a 2 year old does not make the choice to have cancer. A teenager or a grown up person chooses to drink and makes that choice. CONTROVERSIAL for me
i think they call it a disease , because its abnormal response to alcohol. psycho-pharmachological disproportional response . alcohol is nt the disease its the response is due disordered response , and the formation of addiction as a result. geneticall predisposed, people are predisposed to cancer.
Most of us have at some point chosen to have a drink. Some can handle it responsibly, drinking in moderation. Even occasionally drinking to a stupor but with no dire consequences. But for some that first sip of alcohol starts a chain reaction of life destroying events. That difference is why alcoholism is a disease.
Lindi your an idiot, yes they made that decision to have a drink but they don’t make a decision to become addicted to it and have it ruin their life. Some people can drink bottles every weekend and stop whenever and never suffer with alcoholism, others can’t do that but instead it gets worse and takes over their life that’s the difference between a person who has the disease and who doesn’t

Alcohol isn't the disease it's the mentality of the individual that makes it a disease...people don't choose to be overcome by alcohol or anything else... it's a mental disease... instead of trying to make people feel bad try say encouraging things to people... you never know what a person is going through...
Alcoholism is not a disease and there's only one true God. Worldly recovery programs can't fix a spiritual problem. AA might be spiritual, but it isn't the gospel. Christ died so that we don't have to live the rest of our lives as addicts. Sad, sad story that the god of our own understanding might not be the one who holds the earth in place. Sweet man and I wish him all the best. I also wish for him to get out of AA and into a church family.
I say the same thing all of the time. Alcoholism is only called a disease to allow the programs to function through government taxpayer funding and to help take the blame off of the person who is the alcoholic. God can fix all.
How much were you drinking each day? This is what fascinates me. I have a friend who drank a handle of vodka a day. I finish a 750ml in tow or three days and I’m working on stopping. But a handle a day would put me out.

You'll never be at that point -- until something shitty happens. That is the case for many, if not most, AA members. It certainly was for me.

how did the doctors know he was predisposed ?
pianomushroom PGO, Maybe they knew the historic of the family. I have some relatives have problem with alcohol. I probably am predisposed.

I'm trying moderation management.
I quit beer and switched to wine and haven't got drunk since. I have to eat (mostly bread) with wine or I get a headache. Plan on quitting altogether.
