Wow thats a great collection you have there. The dark horse conans are absolute masterpieces, the art the story, it's like God put all these amazing talented individuals together to bring beauty and brilliance for the world to enjoy.
The Conan series unlike the Chronicles of Conan / Original Marvel Years has longer stories based on the Robert Howard fiction. The Conan Reader has longer stories too. Born on the Battlefield and the Book of Thoth were really good.
Conan and the Punisher is where it's at and they are all I really collect in the comic realm. With that said, I really enjoyed the Dark Horse run and Im currently reading the Savage Sword Omnibus...what great reads.
Dark Horse also released a series called King Conan. It was 5 graphic novels long and covered The Scarlet Citadel, The Phoenix on the Sword, The Hour of the Dragon and Wolves Beyond the Border. It was by the same team that did Hand of Nergal, Black Colossus, and Shadows of the Moonlight of this series, so it feels very much like a continuation (or culmination) of the series.
Hey I'm also a great conan and punisher fan, I own every dark Horse paperback by kurt busiek, (collecting the classic collection right now) and every punisher comic written by Garth Ennis (and more) Greetings from Germany
Dark Horse did a great job with Conan. I have all the volumes myself. It's just too bad the sword and sorcery genre is no where near as popular as it was back in the '80s when I first started reading Conan.
I am not a big comic guy but I really liked the dark horse run of "the giants daughter" up to the start of the belit storyline. The change in artstyle really put me off it, makes the characters look like teenagers, not a good change.
I used to collect the original Marvel run, up until Roy Thomas left for DC and the writing went to shit. I bought the first couple Dark Horse reprints of Marvel's CONAN comic, and remember being pissed as hell that the debut story of Red Sonja was not included, due to DYNAMITE having the license for her character -- which was bullshit, since she was a guest star in a CONAN comic, by Crom! Why the f%ck they couldn't keep all the Hyborian/REH characters under just one roof, publishing-wise, is beyond me. It's too bad the re-issues of Marvel's SAVAGE SWORD didn't give them a decent colorization -- that would have been an incentive for me to pick 'em up -- but I collected the original magazine, so I didn't need a B&W reprint . . . but would've gotten them had they added good color to it. There was a magnificent MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL -- #2, I think, right after their KISS issue -- which featured Conan . . . in glorious 'Marvelcolor', with Buscema & Alcala art, based on an REH story turned into a Conan pirate adventure. I wonder if Dark Horse ever re-printed that, and if they had the 'Marvelcolor'...?
At 9:27 I remember seeing this magazine when I was in the 6th grade. That was back in 1976
That pretty damn cool.😎
LOVE me some Conan!
He just NO nonsense!!
Treats monsters, demons, dark wizards all the same. Equal Opps killer...
