В синеву беспредельного неба. Почувствуй на миг,
Как огонь полыхал, как патроны рвались и снаряды
Как руками без кожи защелку искал командир,
Как механик упал, рычаги обнимая.
И радист из «ДТ» по деревьям пунктир прочертил,
Даже мертвый крючок пулемета сжимая.
На кострах умирали когда-то Ян Гус и Джордано Бруно,
Богохульную истину смертью своей утверждали.
Люк открой и взгляни в эту башню, где пусто, черно.
Здесь погодки мои в огне умирали!

The frontal armor is shattered by shells,
The long-barreled gun stares unblinkingly
Into the blue and boundless sky.
Feel for a moment, how the fire blazed,
How the cartridges and shells exploded,
How the commander searched for the latch with his bare hands,
How the mechanic fell, hugging the levers.
And the radio operator fired across the trees:
Even dead he was squeezing the trigger of the machine gun.
At the stake once died Jan Hus and Giordano Bruno,
They affirmed the truth with their deaths.
Open the hatch and look into the turret,
Where it is empty and dark.
Here were my peers. They died in the fire!

In the final days of the Stalingrad battle there was a combat near the village of New Hope, where one of the Russian tanks was damaged behind the enemy lines. The soldiers were offered to surrender, but they refused and the tank was burnt. Through the radio crews of the other tanks heard them singing the national anthem before the connection failed
