А где-нибудь на лавочке у дома
Всё ждет и ждет его седая мать.
Проходят мимо девушки невесты,
А он расправил молодецки грудь,
Сойти никак не может с места,
Не может даже руки протянуть
Его зовут с собою птичьи стаи,
...
Но и на шаг его не отпускает
Когда-то им спасенная земля
И с той поры в бессменной гимнастерке
Стоит и смотрит на далекий плёс
