It’s a fascinating thought how appearances and context can shift the way we’re treated in different environments. Sometimes, the way we dress or present ourselves is enough to command attention and respect, even in places where we least expect it. Yet, the true essence of who we are often transcends any surface-level impressions. Do you think that how we present ourselves to the world shapes our experiences more than we realize?
Happened to me at Bank of America, dressed in jeans, suspenders, and Caterpillar work boots. I wanted to open a commercial account and got laughed at by the banker. The banker was horrified when I walked up to the teller and asked for a cashiers check for 7 figures out of my investment account and opened a commercial account and investment account at a competitors bank.
🔥 This is a powerful reminder to never judge a book by its cover. It’s unfortunate that professionalism and respect were missing in that moment, but I love how you handled it with such class. 👏 Taking your business elsewhere must have been so satisfying-definitely their loss! 💼💪
Happened to the owner of a cement company in our area. He wore his bib coveralls and denim shirt to buy a new cement truck. After an hour of no service, he began to walk off the lot. A salesman finally came out and asked the man if he could help him ? The buyer said yes, about an hour ago you could have. I was here to buy a new cement truck but decided to go to your competitor. He pulled the cash he had in his pocket, enough to buy a new cement truck. Thank you anyway though as he walked off. He drove the new cement truck back to his batch plant.
How often do we find ourselves caught in the rush of first impressions, only to later realize that true value and meaning are often concealed in the least expected places? Your insight serves as a powerful reminder to slow down and appreciate the story within every individual and every situation.
Wether it’s a jet or a F150, if you turn up looking like Jose you get ignored. If you turn up with a suit, an iPhone 16 pro max and a fancy car that you lease people think you’re rich. It happens the world over. These sales people are nobodies who think they are somebody.
I drive a 5 year old Jeep and only wear fancy clothes for Gala's and weddings. Don't want to go broke trying to impress others, that probably don't like me anyway.
It’s fascinating how the world often values what is superficial, mistaking wealth and external success for true worth. As you’ve pointed out, a fancy car or a sleek phone doesn’t define a person’s value-it’s the substance within that truly matters. Your observation highlights a societal blind spot, where real character can easily be overshadowed by the illusion of luxury.
Sometimes, it’s the simplest of people who carry the most profound wisdom, and the deepest worth is not measured by outward appearance but by the strength of one’s character. The farmer’s decision to visit an airport, to dream beyond his means, speaks volumes about ambition, while the salesman’s judgment reveals how easily we can fall into the trap of superficiality. This story is a reminder that true value cannot be seen with the eyes alone-it is found in the dreams we dare to chase and the authenticity with which we pursue them.
It's disappointing to see people judge others based on their appearance. Your story is a valuable lesson for those who lack vision and professionalism. Not everyone who wears jeans or safety shoes is financially incapable. Surely that banker will not forget the moment you withdrew 7 figures from your investment account. The way you handled this situation is amazing and proof that you should never underestimate others based on their appearance!
Ah, yes reminds me of that one time I had just finished shoveling manure and went to the airbus store to buy an A-380. They snubbed me and I bought a Boeing 777 just to spite the salesman (didn't really need a plane but they pissed me off). You should have seen the look on the Airbus salesman's face. Priceless. If you believe the story in the video you should believe mine.
Your story is nothing short of hilarious and brilliantly inventive! It’s the perfect reminder that life is often full of unexpected, humorous twists that leave us with priceless moments and unforgettable reactions. The wit and playful defiance in your words create a picture that’s both laugh-out-loud funny and impressively creative. Who would’ve thought that shoveling manure could lead to such a humorous showdown in the world of planes? Your ability to weave humor with a hint of mischief is inspiring. What made that moment so unforgettable for you, beyond the obvious victory of a well-played “spite”?
Truly admire Jose's resilience as he stood up to those who mocked him and proved his worth. The part where he and his son confronted the situation and won in court was truly inspiring! It reminds us not to judge others based on appearances. Do you think society needs more stories like this to change people's perspectives? Share your thoughts.
Happened to me some years ago when I went to a showroom to buy a brand new car in my work clothes. The salesmen would not even give me the time of day. Went to another dealer and when I collected my car I drove to the 1st showroom to show them what I had bought. Their faces were a picture.
Your story is a brilliant reminder of the truth that judgment based on appearances is often flawed. How powerful it must have felt to walk back into that showroom, not with words, but with action, and to show them that their assumptions were wrong. It’s a beautiful moment of quiet triumph-proof that self-worth and success are not defined by what others see, but by who we truly are and what we achieve. Your experience isn’t just a personal victory; it’s a lesson that speaks to us all: Never let anyone’s perception of you dictate your potential. What do you think it is about moments like these that leave such a lasting impact on both us and those who doubt us?
This is a true story. I know it’s true, because I’m 83 and a close friend of mine who is the same age, 83, was present when the incident took place. The setting was San Francisco, 1965, Van Ness Blvd., 10:30 in the morning. A Woman wearing a, what you’ll recall is a granny dress, and carrying a huge carpetbag purse, which you may also remember from the 1960s, walked into the Porsche dealership and was admiring a bright red Porsche. Most of the salesman were gathered around the coffee pot, Eyeing the woman and trying to decide what to do about Her, the sales manager finally Told the youngest, newest salesman, to get rid of her. He approach the woman, and not knowing what else to say, mentioned How beautiful the car was that she was admiring. She replied that it was the most beautiful car she had ever seen and ask how much it was. He replied that it was about $30,000 which, I think, was the approximate cost of a Porsche at the time. She reached into that big carpetbag purse, Pulled out a huge role of hundreds, held together with a huge rubber band, and peeled off the $30,000, asking the salesman if the car could be ready by 5 PM. It turns out the woman was Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane. NEVER judge a book by its cover.

The same thing happened years ago with a new car salesman. The old farmer was going to buy several cars for his kids and a truck for himself. Needless to say the car dealership lost a huge sale. Never judge a book by the cover.
Heard a similar story from my father a ill dress famer went into a london car show room carryong his overnight holdall a ssleman approached with the attitude the farmer couldn t afford. The farmer engaged with the sales man and disgused what he could afford until the salesman said the farmer couldn,t afford that car even with a large discount. The farmer asked what the discount was and was told but it had to be an on the spot payment. The farmer shook the salesmans hand opened the holdall full of £notes. He got the car. Never judge a person by his looks.
Me being a waiter in one of the best cruise ship royal Caribbean one thing i learned early on was from my mentor that don't be judgemental and he was right most of the time i encounter guest who where look so simple but they're the one who has money and big tipper maybe not all so the best thing i do is treat every costumer with respect and you will always win.
In the seventies I had the same experience at a Datsun dealer. I wanted a 240Z and I had the money for it, but I was dressed in tennis shorts, shirt, and was riding a ten speed bike. When I spoke to a salesman about how much the car cost his reply was “ more than you can afford “. Three days later I drove my new Fiat 124 Spyder to the Datsun dealer and confronted the salesman, I guess he was shocked by me in a car that cost more than the Z. A$$holes are everywhere.

Oh, come on. That guy could have worn freshly purchased clothes or at least washed clothes. No need to rub it in that poor guy is really a millionaire in casual attire. Or was he off his rocker?
My mother sold real-estate and always told me the one that walked in the door dirty from a hard days work driving a old truck had money to spend and the one that walked in with clean clothes driving a new car didn't have two penny's to rub together!!!
I used to deliver new cars to garages, and we had a contract for BMW cars, and every garage I went to treated me with respect because I was bringing their wages via the car sales and some who didn't know who I was dressed in my boots and overalls would come up to me in the showroom asking if they could help me buy a car and what model.

How do you think they plow the fields? ….oh wait, what… um, what Does he need a jet for? Dinner and a Broadway show in New York maybe….but shouldn’t he dress nicer? Huh, we’re back to square one. 🙄😳
If you have a dream chase it, and then live it. Everyone is some. Even the self entitled employees are somebody. But the salesman probably couldn’t afford the. Most of the people in private aviation have a grandiose view of themselves. But most of them are tired kickers themselves. I was forced to wear a suit to work for 20 years. I guess my sales representative just had people skills.
Happened to me, walked in, was ignored by a few sales persons, I was used to being snubbed due to my looks. A good man asked if he could help, yes, and I walked out with a new car (I Paid For)
So, when I wish to buy a jet, I should show up at LAX or any large airport where the showroom displays several choices. OH, Ishhould bring cash or check?
This story appeared to begin as a bench trial and then a witness with recordings played them for the jury and finally, the judge made a ruling. The writer of this fable should have researched their material before offering this implausible concoction. This bilge water is not worth the read.
I'm not a farmer. Just a lowly contract farmhand. I own and fly a $2,000,000 airplane. An Air Tractor 802 I make enough with it, I only work 7-8 months a year (during the growing season). I spend my winters in the Bahamas or Cabo. I fly down there in my Beech Baron. Not too shabby for a farmhand.
Yeah, well I'm a pilot who is pretty sure I know what you do with that Air Tractor. Aerial spraying is a good but somewhat dangerous business. Be careful Sir so that you can fly that Baron to the Caribbean for many more winters to come.
This is a made up feel good story. But this does happen in real life. I once went to a Lincoln dealership and couldn't get waited on, so I left. I then went to a cadillac dealer and purchased a new car. I wore shorts, t--shirt and tennis shoes. One should never judge one by looks. !
Assuming this story is true, Jose should have brought a printout of his bank account balance proving he has the funds to purchase the plane instead of relying on Discrimination, that’s taking the dishonorable way out.
A young Bill Gates showed up at the Mercedes dealer in Bellevue, WA to buy several cars to be given as perks to his key executives as a reward for their endless days of work when the company was still very young. He was ignored as just a "looker" by the dealership and promptly de-camped to the just-built Lexus dealership three blocks away where he promptly purchased a fleet of shiny new cars.
Can a US farmer buying a Jet or Boeing 747 -800. i thing may be naver but Jimmy Carter was nut cultivater he was a jet may be.watching from Bangladesh a advance farmer.
If he went into a John Deere tractor dealership dressed like that, he would have got the red carpet treatment.

A guy showing up dirty looking like a tramp to buy a multi million dollar airplane should expect to be treated accordingly.

Great story for discrimination
The writer of this story needs to stick to children’s books.
You don't judge a person of how he looks but his humility of heart.❤
Point is no matter how you look, you should be respectful

I once heard a joke; How do you make a millionaire out of a farmer? Give him two million. He will be a millionaire.
Friend of mine sold ⛵️ & she said clothes meant nothing, she could tell immediately if a customer was actually there to buy. 6th sense 🙂
Justify any one needing a private jet. Commercial jets for everywhere.
Yeah I met farmers from Canada who owened 1000's of acres wheat fields. Cant go farming in Winter.
I’m falling asleep now
Silly Story Time. Why not - right?
Narrator alternately calls him "HO-ZAY" and "JOE-ZAY". No way to determine if this is a real situation, or a fiction. Too cutesy.
"This content is exclusively authored and is protected by copyright laws. Thus, any effort to duplicate, replicate... " Yeah, no need to worry.
appearance is everything...that is the culture we live in.
Someone never watched the “Beverly Hillbillies”
Happened to me, walked in, was ignored by a few sales persons, I was used to being snubbed due to my looks. A good man asked if he could help, yes, and I walked out with a new car (I Paid For)
Wish we Could see this all we get is a Guy Telling it ?
BS. simple click bate BS
He ought to be able to buy what ever he wants
So, when I wish to buy a jet, I should show up at LAX or any large airport where the showroom displays several choices. OH, Ishhould bring cash or check?
Just your good looks, that should do it.
This story appeared to begin as a bench trial and then a witness with recordings played them for the jury and finally, the judge made a ruling. The writer of this fable should have researched their material before offering this implausible concoction. This bilge water is not worth the read.
AI knows no bounds
I'm confused, did Jose fly the plane or fly in it?
I hope the former, just to add an extra "Got you" to the embarrassed salespeople. ;-)
Never judge a book by its cover, you might miss out on a great story!
My memory tells me that one of a very famous university in California was build to a similar story involving a farmer
AI is really getting creative 😂
Good yarn, I've known one, who was like this and heard of another, they both could buy a small town and dressed as a farmer.
This is a BS story! Where did this happen!
I think Jose was a Colombian farmer. Just a guess.
I'm not a farmer. Just a lowly contract farmhand. I own and fly a $2,000,000 airplane.
An Air Tractor 802
I make enough with it, I only work 7-8 months a year (during the growing season).
Happened to me at a Cadillac dealership in New Orleans. I ended up buying four of them in one purchase,
Assuming this story is true, Jose should have brought a printout of his bank account balance proving he has the funds to purchase the plane instead of relying on Discrimination, that’s taking the dishonorable way out.
It's not true. AI written fiction.
Sometimes physically appearance doesn't tell the truth about people
Can a US farmer buying a Jet or Boeing 747 -800. i thing may be naver but Jimmy Carter was nut cultivater he was a jet may be.watching from Bangladesh a advance farmer.
All stories are the same, one with a car and the other with a horse, get something new please

Never judge a book by the cover
