Virar Surat Shuttle used to have few double decker coaches with single seats on the top at the entrance. I am lucky enough to travel in all double decker train on western line
Perfect narration and story telling! I also wanted to experience this one of a remaining non Ac DD and hence my brother and I planned the railfanning journey on a sunday last month. Travelled from Borivali to Mumbai Central (with a valid ticket bought from Gholvad via UTS). It was a superb experience and this rake will be remembered for years!
I don't understand why Indian railways is not manufacturing LHB Non AC double decker coaches? FLYING RANEE should be replaced with lhb non ac double coach instead of simply lhb coaches.

i used to travel in flying ranee st to mmct when it used to have blue icf rakes but it is also converted into single decker... I Think trains for adi to st, st to mmct and other such routes should have double decker trains it will be very good option for daily travellers
In my City Botad it has one locomotive and very tall tiraga for beautification in front of entrance of railway station I see every day and night when i go and come back home and i like this to much 💖❤

What a fond memories with this train....my entire collage life and then everyday coming to work in Mumbai by this train almost 10nyears same coach same seat ....it's sad to say bid adeau to these coaches .....IR should produce more such double decker coaches non ac on LHB technology they r more convenient and carry more passengers and luggage. If u see in Europe double decks are more popular for short distances trains like 250 KMS. Last year they stopped double decker coaches of Flying Ranee and now this 😢

Never understood the logic of this kind of coaches instead of tagging 4 more regular coaches to the back of the train. Have travelled the AC double decker multiple times between Delhi and Jaipur. Pretty uncomfortable they were. However at that time slot,vthat was the only train being operated. So no other choice.

Current general class coach is already double decker since many pple climb up and sit on the racks but without the congestion feeling. Double decker coaches become very claustrophobic when fully packed due to low head space , also ventilation issues could happen That is why general coaches are not double decker.
