Herschede 1982 Sheffield - Model 230 9-Tube Grandfather Clock - Whittington Chime

Most of these clocks are seen with nickel plated tubes. This one has what Herschede called "golden washed tubes" in their marketing description (they're brass). They have a slightly different sound than the nickel plated tubes. The clock is currently tuned to provide a limited amount of resonance, but certainly more than you can hear in the video. Whittington is favored because it uses all 8 chime tubes. Being manufactured after the 1980 retooling, this clock has a nice pause between chiming and striking the hour. Herschede stopped manufacturing in 1984, making this one a very late example. You'll also meet Oscar - he'd like some treats.

Thank you for posting this. I have the same clock and some of the pins on the chime bar where “straightened” by a shop that felt they were in miss alignment. This actually changed the timing of the melodies. My hope is that I can gently re-bend them to get the true melody back...

I can tell the tubular bells are in the D major scale. They sound nice though while the hour tube has the tuning note C
Thus the cat is cute too

Wish i was there i can adjust the chime melody rhythm conditions

How do you do that?..I know how to adjust the tempo but the rhythm between notes in the chime is another thing. I think it’s a matter of bending (carefully and in small steps) the pins on the chime bar to time the release of the hammer. Does that sound correct?

Since when the hour chime have 5 quarter strikes?🤔 So far I know is that 1 quarter too much.

Herschede's self-correcting mechanism is such that the chime will run continuously at the hour until the sequence is corrected, unlike many modern clocks which have a self-correct that will skip the quarters until the full hour.
