    2cm is a little low for the cap, its not good to plant the plants directly into the soil, rather let the roots find their way into the soil to absorb the nutrients on their own

  • @eh.440
    @eh.440 3 года назад +21

    Hi sir, this is very beautiful! And a well made video. One peice of advice, I've made something similiar and I found that the cap on top of the soil needs to be thicker than the layer of soil. Otherwise over time the soil expands and goes into the water, which is not good.

    • @MrRoberto167
      @MrRoberto167 Год назад +3

      It's been over a year but what I think they mean by support is in reference to the sand, if you build a hill of dirt and then put sand on top you run the risk of the sand just rolling down and exposing the dirt.
      Exposed dirt is BIG no no in Walstad tanks, because the rich dirt will leach many nutrients and chemicals to your water that would make life for fish and plants pretty much impossible.
      So that, keep the dirt capped with sand.

      @@ceyhunderindere Thank you for the advice. I thought that what you have used was a soil made for garden plants. As a beginner to aquascaping I have been looking for helpful videos that are not all about the maker of the videos and how clever they are but good facts and details about what is used and how to create beautiful aquascapes. Your videos meet all my expectations and I am slowly working my way through them. Another very helpful thing is that you reply to questions. I have watched other videos on the subject and asked the video maker questions but never receive any replies. Keep up the good work. Your videos are great!
