I’m just so happy to see Orville Peck getting some love, yes I’m not the biggest fan of his new Duet album but he’s certainly bringing something new and exciting to Country music. Thanks for reviewing the album, Anthony.
Fantano is recomend you check out Vuktures 2 By Kanye West. He is a small artist that is beginning to blow up in the underground rap scene. I think you would love the project
You say you're surprised that orville covered papa was a rodeo. I was actually very highkey PRAYING he would make a cover of that song the moment i heard he was doing a cover album. I did have doubts it would happen because peck is pretty pop oriented and magnetic fields was possibly too alternative to even be on his radar. Glad my doubts were proven wrong. Papa is a rodeo is genuinely one of my all time favourite songs and i adore orville peck. Cant believe this cover is real 😁
Pony definitely has more alternative influence, and I believe he played drums in a punk band before he was Orville peck. Also his backing band until recently was a Toronto band called Friggs, and the singer (who sang on All I Can Say) has a solo project called God's Mom that's pretty far outside of mainstream pop. All that to say I think it's much less surprising that magnetic fields would be on his radar than u might initially think haha
@@peach_total It's been a long time since I listened to 'pony' but now that you mention it I do remember it being pretty alt rocky. Honestly I can't believe I forgot he was kind of an alt darling during his pony era. I wasnt very aware of Orville's background. In particular, it's cool to hear he was a drummer for a punk band! Definitely less surprising now that you've shared this :))
@@smurfette_blues7922 yea i feel like it’s super easy to forget, i haven’t listened to pony in quite a while either haha. with every new release of his im iffy on it at first but then i end up liking it even more than the last, so im excited to see if this album goes the same way (and if not there’s more than enough great stuff of his for me to listen to 🙂↕️)
@@peach_totalwhen Bronco came out I was immediately all over it. When Stampede dropped I was hesitant but it's growing on me. I think it could be a great car ride album
Agreed w the sentiment that some of the collabs dont go over well but How Far Can We Take It is so good. I got to see them play it live together and i think the chemistry really works, u can tell theyre friends and not just collaborators
Can you please review Rachel Chinouriri official debut album "What a devastating turn of Events" you've talked about her and with her in the past, I think she deserves to be talked again. This album is really deep and convoluted in a great way. One of my favorite albums this year yet.
you crazy melon. Hurtin' Kind and How far will we take it are the best tracks on the album, but 100% agree the beck track and chemical sunset are huge whiffs. I do think 7 makes sense since it has up and downs, but i felt some of the individual songs you explained were off.
this is genuinely one of my favourite albums of the year. and i dont like most modern country and 99% of pop country in general. i literally cant explain it but i just love orville peck
I went to high school with Debbii Dawson and her siblings. Entire family consists of the sweetest people imaginable. Wishing her all the success in the world.
I absolutely loved “Bronco,” but I think my issue with Peck is that I just… want him to be something that he apparently just isn’t. Like I really wish he took the opportunity of a well-funded major label collaborations album and, as “the gay cowboy” country singer, totally flip the script and bring something truly fresh, new, invigorating, exciting and interesting to the table. Collaborate with Arca or Charli or Shygirl. Blend genres and bend peoples’ minds. Find any and every queer or just cool as hell artist that’s doing really interesting stuff in their genre and create something totally new and insane. Blend country with gay ass dance pop, with disco, with hip hop and electronica… make something NEW. But what we got instead is “the gay cowboy” doing his best effort to craft an album that would feel right at home on the shelves at your local Walmart next to Toby Keith and Miranda Lambert. It’s unfortunate. I just wish he were doing… *more* with his shtick.
While I don’t think country-hyperpop would work at all, I get what you mean. His music instrumentally can feel a bit standard. It often sounds lush and his voice is great. However, outside of the queer themes in the lyrics, his music is nothing that exciting. Well done, but not exciting. However the fact he is an out man singing openly queer songs and finding an audience at all in this genre is crazy. It’s probably the best move for him at the moment, best to walk and not run and all that. The country audience is super conservative musically after all, they aren’t long going off their own if they are deemed to have branched out too far from the genre. The fact they are on board with him at all is to be celebrated.
@@Zeverinsen I 100% agree, and I really do like his music. I just feel it’s missing.. something to push it from being music I like to music I love. I’m fully aware that is purely subjective and a lot of people love his current output, just voicing an opinion is all.
Orville has a vocals that at times come across vocals come across as cheesy. I Think it can work but when the collaborations don’t work and it disappointing especially when it’s an artist who is really good at collaborations like Beck and Elton John. I think what make the Willie Nelson collaboration ‘Cowboys Are Frequently Fond of Eachother so good is because Orville Peck is a huge fan of Willie Nelson and Willie Nelson if a fan of Orville Pecks music as well. It feels like the most important artist Orville collaborated with on the record. He has mention how much he loves Willie Nelson music and that he’s a long time fan of Willie Nelson on this. So it feels like some of the collaboration he felt had to work And others just didn’t as much. Sometimes collaborations are easier to work that others especially when an artist is singing with another artist because they already know from having sung along to some of their songs before even asking them if they would like to collaborate that their voice blends well with the artist there asking this.

Orville has been performing "Cowboys Are Secretly.. " live as a solo for year ls now, and *hot take* every grainy cell phone video online of him performing it online is better than the official release. 😂 He lets the full size of his voice shine, he brings out the humor of the song, it's a highlight. The duet with Willie Nelson is all but muted, probably to inspire radio play but also because their vocal ranges are so incompatible. Also, just due to the nature of the song, the mixing of Orville's deep, sexy voice matches with Willie Nelson's 95 year old scratchy voice communicates a May/December romance that feels awkward to say the least 😅
When you first said "cowboys are always secretly fond of each other," I arrived at the conclusion that the song title must really be "cowboys are always secretly fucking" and that you were just deploying another one of your Sillythony Innuendotanos
