    45:13 - "You're not alone in thinking that"... but in _this_ room, you are *definitely* alone in thinking that. 😂
    That was very diplomatic of you, Matt.
    I'm glad he got a chance to further explain his position, and correctly identify the e46. Thank you, Zack, for extracting that.
    Great show, Steve's always a treat.
    p.s.
    "I don't like meth. Do you like meth?"
    "I'm not a huge fan of meth, but it does work."
    😂😂😂😂😂

    The sheer amount of chassis dynamic knowledge to be gained by listening to Mr Dinan cannot be overstated. Knowledge that can really only be learned by millions spent testing and tuning. Fascinating I can't get enough! These always get me out in my garage looking under my hood wanting to make adjustments that aren't completely neccesary for a street car.

    Awesome to hear that Steve tunes not in spite of the environment but in consideration of it!

    35:00 Mass damper was used by Renault F1 in 2005 and 2006. It was banned after 2006 french grand prix.

    agreed on current M cars … older ones had more spirit/soul, meaning, way more analog with a lot more road feel, I love that the company’s forward thinking yet sometimes true forwarding thinking involves acknowledging ones’ own roots and revisiting what made one great

    Tune stacking is pretty much the same as the old way Greddy/Trust/HKS Japanese piggy back ECU's used to work... They would intercept signals from sensors and tell the ECU one thing but then overwrite information back to other parts from the engine. Been around since the 00's.

    35:17 I think Steve is confusing RB with Renault, which had a mass damper in the nose of their cars during the 05/06 seasons, they won two championships, beating Ferrari and MSC.

    Steve is likely correct on his thoughts on the new hybrids. Demand for just about every recently released hybrid model has been pretty poor. SF90, 296, Artura, C63, E-Ray, ect. People just don't seem to have any desire for these systems. I for one would be very hesitant about mid to long term ownership of the new M5 hybrid as BMW's prior Activehybrid lineup are all pretty much worthless now due to hybrid system failures and reliability issues.

    US enthusiasts often forget OEMs are global. M5 has to be PHEV for EU and China regulations. If it was just the US, it wouldn't need to be a hybrid.
    If BMW was facing just US regulations it'd be a different story.

    The Ferrari 296 has a much longer electric range than the Artura. 15-17 miles of EV only. I hate hybrids as much as anyone …..so it’s super annoying that the 296 is so god damn amazing to drive because it ruins my whole argument. 😠
    Seriously, that car is better driving than most every single Ferrari that the internet would have you believe is light years better

    Hybrids and EVs are not heavy. They are under engineered. The same way you fit a data center from the 70s into a cell phone, we can lower the weight of battery cars. Every race car should have to deal with the extra weight to move this forward.

    • @Bob_Smith19
      @Bob_Smith19 12 часов назад +1

      You’re forgetting the part about the weight of current battery tech. They’re not getting any lighter until sold state is available at commercial scale.

    • @gnoxycat
      @gnoxycat 10 часов назад

      @@Bob_Smith19 Right. Move the tech forward, with racing. Like racing has done with tires, suspension and even weight on ICE cars. Get out of those struggling piles and get with the program!
