Takemura is such a good character. He makes the other characters look even better. When Sendo first comes into it and he spars with Takemura, Takemura knocks the crap out of him, Sendo looks weak and silly. But then when Ippo steps into the ring with Sendo you realise just how strong Sendo is. That gives you this strange sense of how far Takemura is above everyone else and it's really good... you appreciate Sendo's strength a lot more because of it.
@@ennuiblue4295 I could be wrong but I was watching the anime kinda recently and Sendo just swings at him. Takamura is all calm and collected but as soon as Sendo nicks him with an elbow and Sendo goes "it was intentional..." Takamura just beats the crap out of him. This was the very first time Sendo was introduced to the story, he had come to challenge Ippo but Ippo declined at first because of an injury he get from Mashiba. I think why this is so cool is because eventually when Sendo and Ippo fight you realise just how strong Sendo actually is. That in turn makes Takamura seem like an impossible mountain. It's awesome too because it also makes Sendo look even more awesome by his hunger to fight stronger opponents. He doesn't seem to care how tough they are, he has this overwhelming tenacity about him that's apparent when he steps into the ring with Ippo.

It amuses me that Miyata, supposedly a genius of boxing can't figure out that Takamura isn't faster than he is, he's just turning in a much smaller circle.
