Aqua is probably the "girl gamer" with the strongest gamer spirit on the entire internet. There is something humbling about watching a younger girl prove beyond doubt that she's better at games than you. It makes me have genuine respect for her. She's so competitive and invested in what she's doing that she can cry honestly about it when she loses. And she's mature enough to recognize the effort the others put in, and reconcile that she needs to get better. There are grown ass men that will blame anyone other than themselves, and others who can't put their heart in a competition because they fear losing if they made any effort.
Makes me think that she just needs to meet the right person, much like how a certain Rabbit grew out of her shell and became more interactive with others after having met a certain Satellite NPC.

At first she wondered if her being their would make the tourney becoming less fun, but then after she saw a lot of other members practicing so hard, she went serious too. I can almost understand what she means when she felt like Accelerator after being beaten by Touma. It's a simultaneously bitter and liberating feeling to be beaten by someone at something you thought you were really good at. I still remember the first time my brother beat me at Smash... god that was a good day.

On other hand i know from the stories of some of them about Aqua's shyness in RL, since a lot of them describes her as a very shy peepsqueek (since among them Aqua is very shorty as well). Well of course you feel better Aqua. You cried. Everyone always feels better after that. I feel as if gamers need a loss every now and then when they give it there all. Especially when around friends. Throwing your all into a game against a friend is pretty fun. If you keep losing, even more so. Gives you the reason to keep gaming by yourself and learn new techniques to give him a rougher time next time. Until you finally win. Trust me when I say it, makes victory all the more sweeter when you have to put in the effort to do it.

Aqua is soooo relatable, I mean I'm also a (good?) gamer girl and don't have any friends that play as much as I do so when we play together I never give my all because if i did, I always see that they don't enjoy the game anymore so I can't enjoy it too. But one time I had the chance to play with someone with the same level as me and it was one of the best moment, when you know that if you don't do your best, you can't win, one of the best feeling I've ever had while playing. They lose more than any other gamer ever will, because they play a ton more. What Aqua experienced is a group of friends that finally became passionate enough to get on her level.
I feel you Aqua. Although now, similar to your case, I already have irl friends in discord who can play together with me. Eventho I still solo some of the games myself since they arent interested in it. The pain of playing alone is just too much eventho it's very fun. Thats just how life is. Everyone has their own path and we cant force each other on anything. Having friends with same passion on something is the best but staying true to friendship is still the highest priority regardless for me
As someone who plays smash somewhat competitively (at about Aqua's level) I totally get her, you don't want to beat your friends so badly they stop playing but you also have a competitive pride that doesn't let you hold back.
I had the same experience back then my classmates were playing this competitive game for a year because I was a transferee I tried playing with them and with just a month I reached their level but after another month they lost interest cause its frustrating for them that I'm better than them whom played for a year

I loved that K-on game. Played the hell out of it. Game clock was stuck on 999 hours played long before I stopped lol but still never managed perfects on all songs on hard with extra notes item kept missing one or 2 notes every time on some. It came to PS3 as well. The problem of people outclassing others in skill is something that is bound to happen due to experience and natural preference and is a big problem with a lot of my friends and rules out a lot of games i.e cant play fighters because I always win, cant play FPS because another friend always wins, same for racers and RTS, etc .Co op games are also hard as people have vastly different abilities so a few always end up carrying the rest which isnt particularly fun for either.

Nah it is not difficult to understand. I am not a hardcore gamer who rages at LOL and makes a big deal over losing but when you play a game it is more enjoyable if you have competition of your level. I played Pokemon XY with a friend and had a battle each week so I spent like 300h in the game building teams for beating his previous strategies. I would have never spent that much time in the game when the story had ended in the first 24 hours If I had not had a rival. Aqua has insane level on the games she likes to play and this time was probably the first one people did not just surrender with her and tried to beat her hard. She may have realized that having that kind of healthy competition feels nice but also wants to win because she has rivals now and victory has meaning.
