Excellent video! I would definitely want to have the active exhaust system on the EcoBoost and I would leave it in track mode all the time because it makes a difference but it's not too loud. I'm also envious of the beautiful warm weather you have in Florida during the winter compared to the lousy cold and snowy weather we are having here in Missouri. Keep up the great work!
Have the same car, bought at Walker Ford. How do you lock in the exhaust to the setting. Our car seams to revert to normal when you shut off the car. Thanks for your videos, great content!!
I still love the look of this car. Great fuel economy especially on road trips and the seats are so comfortable! Using the Bluetooth is super quiet. Great car!
That was a really good comparison of the modes, thanks Joe! Its difficult to make modern 4-cylinder sound good, but this active exhaust does a better job than most aftermarket units. I'm all about the V8, but I'm impressed by this active exhaust on the 4-pot. Oh, and of course, always good to see another Mustang review (and nice to see the S197 you overtook, too lol) :)

Last month I bought a 2020 Ecoboost Premium in silver, the last 2020 on the lot and the only one in silver (I only buy silver cars) and the car was option with the adaptive exhaust. I wasn’t sure about it, but now that I have it I’m glad that I do, and I appreciate you explaining it to me in greater detail.
I have a 19 PerfPack 10spd EcoBoost with the active exhaust that I special ordered. The videos(most I've seen not necessarily Raitis) really don't give a great representation of the sound in all driving situations. I knew when I ordered it that it would not sound like a V8. But as far as a 4cylinder the AE sounds really nice to me. It seems to have gotten a little louder in the 3 weeks I've owned it. As a side note, I was already looking at changing the stock exhaust and had priced out and watched tons of videos on aftermarket Exhaust. When looking at the price it was a no brainer. The $900 option was cheaper than most if not all catback setups and I now have the ability to change the modes which would not be an option with most if not all of the aftermarket setups. I'm an old musclecar guy(look at my page for my Buick videos) so believe me I've gotten quite the razzing from my classic car friends over buying the EB over the GT but it was to be a daily driver with a fairly long commute to work and needed to still get reasonable mpg.
Hey man just one question about the AE since I'm about to get a mustang with that option, do the sound modes go with the driving modes or can you have for example the exhaust in "track" mode while the mustang is driving in "normal" or "sport" mode for example? Thanks!
Hangar18 yes and yes. The driving modes do change the exhaust modes but you can, after selecting a driving mode, select or change to whichever exhaust mode you wish.

@@hangar1891 I work second shift so when I leave work after 11 ;00 pmI put the driving mode in sport and the exhaust in quiet mode. Look at my page and you'll see the only video I've posted of the Mustang so far. It's a cold start with with both modes in normal.

Track mode, in a parking garage, select "S" transmission, switch to paddle shifters, start in 1st Gear, depress accelerator, keep it depressed at ~4.5k RPM (or higher) as you upshift, nice sound plus the crackle+pops. Obviously only do so when it's safe.
Thanks for a great video comparing the different exhaust sounds. I'm still in love with my 2017 EcoBoost as my daily driver. Imo the look/style of the Mustang is fantastic.

without throwing bulk shade at this car, I feel if you want to really take advantage of that engines performance, get a Focus RS. They would have been better off putting a turbo I6 by using the Barra engine from the Oz made Falcons. Whilst the power out of the eco boost is very admirable, in a car that heavy it’s not really the best choice imo.
Putting a Barra in the "Ecoboost" would have killed the GT segment as people would just buy the I6 and produce more power for less. Ford isn't going to do that.
I see no lie here. I never thought in my entire life I’ll own a mustang because I’m a camaro fan boy but I had to get an ecoboost because I wasn’t going to get a camaro rs I’ll rather wait n upgrade to an ss or zl1
Not a fan of the sound of eco boost mustangs but I must say I’m looking hard at purchasing the new upcoming HI performance Eco boost mustangs coming in the next few months. Power and light weight will definitely make for a much more fun car then my current 2015 GT. You can definitely feel the weight over the front buuuuuut the sound of the V8 will never be beat.
As usual, outstanding review. I factory ordered my 2019 Mustang EcoBoost premium with pony package on the first day Ford accepted orders late summer 2018. I preordered with Active Exhaust without the ability to see/hear being months before the first 2019s would be at dealership. You hit all the key points and what the AE does to enhance the EcoBoost - not meant to recreate the GT exhaust. My main reason for ordering was visual with the dual exhaust. I am very happy - the $895 was worth the price.

Had V8 High Pro K Code engines on many of them. Enjoyed the Mustang V8 power over many decades. I decided I wanted a new / modern / high tech daily driver Mustang- 6th Gen Refresh. The 2019 EcoBoost is perfect for my daily driving needs. Also, I wanted the Pony Package which only is available on the EcoBoost.

I just can't do it a mustang should not sound like a Focus RS. I'm not one of those people that think you need to have a V8 in everything when you can make high horsepower with small motors, but a mustang has to have V8 for the sound that's what makes a mustang a mustang.
Ford needs to ditch the 4 banger and put either the 2.7L v6 TT or better the 3.5 V6TT on the mustang period. It would fit and mat up to either trans. Tune it to 400hp/400tq and be done. Less than the V8 but still a much better car. There are many car company’s using V6 TT. Leave the 4 banger to the focus RS
Definitely agree, Ford needs use the 2.7L TT or the 3.5L TT, the 2.3 four is good but a V6 TT would be better for this heavy of a car. This might eat into the sales of the GT though, and tuners would go crazy with a V6 TT especially the 3.5L.
YummierHook385 i bet they would sell a lot more v6 TT than the 2.3. So what they loose in v8 sale (maybe) they would make up easy. Plus we all know that the 3.5 v6 TT can easy make 450hp and 500tq given that power from the raptor. Give it another year or so. They need to do something with those 2 engines the focus ST & RS fusion and Taurus are all done this year. And they use the 2.7TT in the ford edge sport currently which won’t be a huge seller at 53k.
I think it's really more about gas mileage and being a more tame daily driver but for people who still want something sporty, good looking, and fun. The EcoBoost and traditional V8 represent two different segments and I think it's a very smart marketing move. Doubt that will change that soon. 4cyl turbo seems to be the big thing right now anyway. It's like everything is a 2.0T these days lol.

I would say if you are getting an EcoBoost Mustang and the dealership has it in the car you want, or you are special ordering it, I would get the active exhaust. I would consider this if I was shopping for a sporty 2 door car.
I am a huge muscle car fan...and a huge fan of the dodge challenger...i had an RT 5.7 V8 2009, but sold it,but i miss it now ..will get another one in the spring,..never been a mustang fan, but i must say, for a 4cyl, this car can really move...305 HP & 350 pound foot of torque...i am impressed!...but i would also be embarrassed to tell someone its a 4 cyl...think i would get the V8 instead......lol
Excellent video. I'm looking to buy a 2021 ecoboost and I'm literally trying to figure out whether I need to get this option or go get it aftermarket like through Roush. I am test riding a 2018 ecoboost right now and it's way too quiet. Not sure how different this is from what I'm using here now, sounds about the same. Though it is more discernable for sure. Wonder if I have to pay for the option to just have it unlocked.
Why I like this better than the GT. 1. More pops than the GT. Like the Focus. (if you like more base and less pops than go for GT) 2. Cheaper than the GT. 3. Better Fuel Economy.

Once you selected an exhaust mode other than 'normal', the car starts up like that every time (let's say track exhaust mode)? What about those driving modes and steering modes? Same thing with these or does the car always start in normal (driving) mode? Does the Mustang alwas start in Normal or in Mymode? Very confusing...
I prefer the EcoBoost 😁😅. Especially in Europe the maintenance, fuel and insurance is way more expensive 😫🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ so yeah.. Great Review btw love your vids:_) .

Mothers car with the EcoBoost. Funny thing is people buy these EcoBoost Mustangs but always try to make them sound like a V8. Not saying that your NUTS but I am saying that you are NUTS!
or, do what i did, slap a borla atak on it! that plus the cobb downpipe really makes all the delicious snaps crackles and pops. RIP neighbors on cold start tho

Can’t tell a difference personally. Love the look of the quad pipes, but the modes seem like an expensive gimmick to me. I’m a big fan of the Ecoboost, I own one, but even I will admit, it sounds shite (although sounds ok from inside, fake noise or not).

Ecoboost will blow V6 out of the water, just by a few inches. Provided both equipped with manual, they are equal. Ecoboost jst feels faster. I dare Ford to bring back the V6 with perf packs and premium package. Lets see how that goes; sales wise.
Great video, I guess it depends on your preference I feel like a 4-cylinder shouldn't be worth more than probably 12 or 13 k.. These are good starter cars for teenagers I guess for an old man like me(34) I go with a 2015 and 16, V8 and pay the same or less amount of money...

I see ford went to a 2.3L with 20 horses more in the ecoboost to 330 horses.V6 vvt camaro is all of 335 horses. In the drop-top EcoBoost does the window and the dashboard still rattle with the top down the truth shall set you free

The issue is probably someone looking at an RS is not going to cross shop it with a Mustang EcoBoost and vice versa.
Putting a Barra in the "Ecoboost" would have killed the GT segment as people would just buy the I6 and produce more power for less. Ford isn't going to do that.
The EcoBoost Mustang is the way to go NOT the V6 Charger/Challenger and Camaro if you cant afford a V8!

Grant Frey what was your reasoning getting an eco boost mustang? here in Australia that version of pony have not been selling very well.

To be fair, the first Mustang was a straight six. So I'm not exactly certain a mustang has to be a V8, but the eco's stock exhaust definitely sucks.

I am a huge muscle car fan...and a huge fan of the dodge challenger...i had an RT 5.7 V8 2009, but sold it,but i miss it now ..will get another one in the spring,..never been a mustang fan, but i must say, for a 4cyl, this car can really move...305 HP & 350 pound foot of torque...i am impressed!...but i would also be embarrassed to tell someone its a 4 cyl...think i would get the V8 instead......lol
oh yeah!..the camaro is a joke!..ugly!!...the challenger is the most retro looking car on the road!

Excellent video. I'm looking to buy a 2021 ecoboost and I'm literally trying to figure out whether I need to get this option or go get it aftermarket like through Roush. I am test riding a 2018 ecoboost right now and it's way too quiet. Not sure how different this is from what I'm using here now, sounds about the same. Though it is more discernable for sure.
Wonder if I have to pay for the option to just have it unlocked.
Why I like this better than the GT.
1. More pops than the GT. Like the Focus.
(if you like more base and less pops than go for GT)
2. Cheaper than the GT.
3. Better Fuel Economy.

Track mode sounds better when you put it on sportmode ➕ and put the shifter on sport
Once you selected an exhaust mode other than 'normal', the car starts up like that every time (let's say track exhaust mode)? What about those driving modes and steering modes? Same thing with these or does the car always start in normal (driving) mode? Does the Mustang alwas start in Normal or in Mymode? Very confusing...
You can set it to start in any mode that you like.
They should make it sound like a GT and then it would be awesome

If you get the premium sound, it includes the CD player. 2018, all of them have CD Player regardless of sound system.

Can’t tell a difference personally. Love the look of the quad pipes, but the modes seem like an expensive gimmick to me. I’m a big fan of the Ecoboost, I own one, but even I will admit, it sounds shite (although sounds ok from inside, fake noise or not).

This EcoBoost blow the V6 out of the water! Especially with the 10 Speed gearbox. Thanks for being so dedicated!
Ecoboost will blow V6 out of the water, just by a few inches. Provided both equipped with manual, they are equal. Ecoboost jst feels faster.
I dare Ford to bring back the V6 with perf packs and premium package. Lets see how that goes; sales wise.
