@@jaredarmstrong992 Woody Allen raped his adopted daughter when she was a toddler several decades ago. The prosecution ultimately did not press forward because of how brutal the legal process was on all involved - if you think that sounds like a cop-out, imagine trying to get a four year old to hold under cross examination after telling an entire room full of people for the God-Knows-How-Manyth Time about what Daddy promised her in exchange for not telling anyone that he put himself inside of her - but between the prosecution taking the Incredibly Unorthodox step of coming out and saying that they were confident they could press ahead and achieve a conviction with the evidence available and the ruling of the judge from the related custody case (which is probably the single most scathing legal opinion I have ever seen written by any professional anywhere and goes on for pages about all the things that were and are not in contention - i.e. other than her rape - that made up exactly why it was definitely necessary to keep her away from him for her own safety), I'm very comfortable asserting that it happened. No one with any sense has spent the time necessary to get a decent overview of the legal facts established at the time and left less than convinced about what happened that day. Generally, most of the public remembers the controversy being him fucking his his *other* adopted daughter - this one technically of age, though not when it started - and marrying her around the same time. Admittedly, he *also* did this, and it's also monstrous in its own way, but the reason people remember it like this is because he made it so. This is because he has put his considerable resources into spinning things this way, making it a 'controversy' about him doing something extremely creepy but not criminal and his ex-wife's bitter rage over it. But that's not it, and never was, and any actor that insists that's what they believed is either lying or chose to 'believe' that deliberately, because none of this is new. This was public knowledge before I was born, and consequently every artist that has made a film with him during my lifetime has definitely been aware of all of this and completely disregarded it for the sake of their own careers. They chose to work with a child-rapist and enable the suppression of his victim's story. The only reason this is a bigger deal today than it would have been five years ago is just that Dylan (the toddler he penetrated) has had a lot more access to public outlets to write about what her father did to her in the last few years - and if her platform expanded when people started allowing her to publish things a few years ago, it went supernova when her brother Ronan won that Pulitzer for exposing another rich hollywood institution as a rapist. Scarlett Johansson went beyond the general collaborationist "I don't really know about any of that stuff, I never looked into anything like that' party line of the bloc of actors and actresses that have chosen to trade their morals for awards with Allen, and genuinely does deserve some very real backlash for it. He's one of the worst people in Hollywood. Maybe just one of the worst people, period. I fully expect some nightmarish tell-alls from his daughters by Soon-Yin, or maybe even Soon-Yin herself, to come to light after he's dead.
On the other hand, you'd have to associate with Adam Sandler. It'd be like drinking from the fountain of youth, but not seeing the "boil before drinking" warning.

The wrong missy had one more laugh for me. It's when missy is in the hottub and david spade sais 'no, you stay here, throw some rose petals in there, maybe a toaster.'
The movie would have worked a lot better if the entire movie had that kind of tone. That kind of old school dry darker sense of humor. Instead of being just gross out humor, making light of sexual assault etc. Basically if it was directed and produced by anybody except the guys at Happy Maddison. It's one of the few HM films that actually has a good premise for comedy just it's all just pushed so far as to be completely unfunny bar a couple of good jokes.
Anyone else miss comedy movies? I remember when we used to get comedy movies where you could watch them and laugh and have a fun time. Why haven't they made any comedy movies in so many years?
Yeah, it's a tough genre, hard to get it right. I mean, with a mediocre drama, say, or an action movie you'd be like "meh, that was okay". But with a comedy it just falls flat. Tag and Game Night from a couple of years ago were pretty decent if you wanna check them out.
Yup. I agree bad improv can be the worst thing ever, but good improv with talent has its structure and can be absolutely hilarious (in case it's improv comedy, there's tons other kinds of improv).
@@jombilywobbily Whose Line Is It Anyway? is a perfect example. Colin Mochrie alone can beat some structured comedians' entire set just by saying whatever comes to his head. From Newscasters: 'Our top story today... according to a recent study, 9 out of 10 people who are afraid of hurdles never get over it.'
Only last week I googled "funniest podcasts" and the recommendations were all improv. Most of them didn't click for me tbh, so I can see where Mike is coming from. But I've found "Hello from the Magic Tavern" the only one to make me really laugh at times.
Not sure if anyone pointed this out but to even further deepen the Sandler Nepotism train Rob Schneider's Daughter is the Artist signing the song during the Face Kicking Three-Some Scene in The Wrong Missy.
I remember when _Blackhawk Down_ came out, I saw and heard several people complain about how it had no plot or character arcs. It actually did have both, but it didn't follow the standard three-act structure as blatantly as people expected. Oh, and also *it was based on real life.*
I remember when Black Hawk Down came out and everyone saying what a badass movie it was. Eric Bana totally killed it as a frosty Special Forces operator. "This is my safety", proceeds to show his trigger finger. I still quote that to this day.
I remember when The Wolf of Wall Street came out and people were angry that Jordan Belfort didn't get a proper comeuppance or change of heart at the end of the movie.
It's the perfect blockbuster to watch in our living rooms. Dumb schlock with two monsters beating the hell outta each other. All I hope is that they don't focus on the humans. It's been the weakest part about these movies.
Have seen Nick Swardson recently and in person at the restaurant where I (used to, hopefully will soon again) work. From what I understand, he's sober now, so my guess is any weight gain you see is a result of him not drinking or doing drugs anymore. Some people gain weight when they stop using drugs/abusing alcohol because their bodies crave a replacement for the sugar they were getting from drinking. So it might be less coke bloat and more Coke™ Bloat. Also, for what it's worth, he's always been really polite when I've served him.
Watch his most recent Tiger Belly appearance and he ended up drinking himself into an actual coma shortly after this movie was shot and nearly died. He's sober now.
@Thoth Atlantis I know I'm probably wasting my time but I highly suggest looking into studies about that instead of just assuming it's wrong. Taking puberty blockers at a young age is easily reversible. And when the child makes this decision it's with a psychiatrist.
@@jpak32 looking into studies pretty much proves it's wrong, like man i sure wish i had to take hormone blockers during puberty to stop me fucking killing myself

I remember seeing Elephant when I was like 14-15 on TV and I was not really at the age where I could deal with slow movies but somehow I was incredibly engaged the entire time watching Elephant. The memory and feeling of watching that movie has stuck with me for well over a decade, it was really remarkable to me how it made me stop, sit and watch it unfold so slowly. Lost In Translation while a slightly different sort of movie also kept me engaged in a similar manner. So I always wondered growing up "Does that make Elephant a good movie, that it was able to have that effect?" I saw it with no real context for what it was going to be about or any expectations and I'd never heard anyone talk about it until Mike mentioned it just now in the video. I might have to check out The Assistant.
I hated Elephant when I first watched it as a teenager, then started to like it much more with further viewings. Same happened with Last Days. Gerry I always was mesmerized by though. I'm going to use your comment to point out that I enjoy this show mostly because of Mike and Jay's humor, demeanor and inventiveness, and despite the fact that the range of their taste and reviews is quite limited: there is a lot of pop culture and almost no arthouse stuff at all. So that's why it's always exciting for me (and almost 'sweet', because of how fond of them I am by now) to see them mention movies as avant-garde, radical and bizarre as those Gus Van Sant films. I can barely picture Mike watching something like Gerry, so it's nice to think that it could actually happen.
I love how EVERY other youtube channel is scared to use the words "corona virus" (because of monetization) while RLM says it excessively in the first 3 minutes
He was on Spade's show a while back and he talked about how uncomfortable he was (he said he was the fattest he's ever been), but didn't specify why. In either case, Swardson is very funny on his own, but not generally funny in Sandler films. He had some great bit parts in a couple movies, but his standup and interview on Norm MacDonald Live are great.
Yeah when you see him on Reno 911 I think a lot of fans of that show will state his character as being one of the best recurring roles, so he can be funny but he was clearly having some health issues.
I’m glad someone said this. For those that don’t know he had like 4 life threatening things happen all at once. I’m assuming this was probably right before that happened. I think he’s a good comedian, it’s just that these movies suck. I’m glad he didn’t die.
"Just watch a Wes Anderson film; they're all the same" That's gonna make some people mad Edit: I agree with most of yall (I like Wes Anderson's stylistic uniformity)
As a Wes Anderson fan, I do have to admit that the themes, blocking, set design, story arcs, and levels of whimsy are pretty much all the same in every film. But each film has different enough characters and settings to feel distinct and unique enough to be worth watching. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
He means: they're not funny but still have an improv show because mom said " you should do comedy". Basically, every Adam Sandler movie after Happy Gilmore.
I legitimately picked Wrong Missy at random while high without watching the trailer. The first fifteen minutes was amusing under the circumstances. But eventually even being high as a kite couldn't make me laugh any more which is sad.
I think you could fairly accurately simulate the entire thing by making a tray of milk bread buns and dusting it with yak hair. The transition from hairy glutinous pasty mess to golden brown hardened hairy mess will be perfect. I am of course assuming that Mike will smear Rich with a coating of egg half way through.
I watched The Assistant after seeing video and i have to say - i really liked it! What a great and subtle performance by Julia G. Sure, it's a simple story, but written and paced out very well. I say bravissimo to this film and its makers. Good job!
My favorite local theater (four screens) is officially closing on June 7th after struggling through lockdown and strongarming from Costco. The first film I remember seeing there was Aladdin, the last was Godzilla: King of the Monsters. 35 years of actual good popcorn, comfy seats and fond memories all gone like tears in rain...
I can't instantly watch a Half in the Bag episode. I have to prepare myself, get the mood right, really take in the gravity of the enjoyment to follow and then settle down into it. See you in a few hours then.
The wrong missy seems like those kind of terrible early 2000’s comedies you would watch on dish network in the middle of the day while staying home sick from jr high
The assistant is basically how it is in most cases. And I think the point really flew over a lot of people's heads because of that. But it's also pretty fucked, and that's the point. This is a lot of people's normal.
@Erik Lerström Or maybe he just didn't like the movie and it has nothing to do with intelligence. And picking movies is always a crapshoot. Even if everyone recommends something, and you're 100% interested in watching it it can always end up sucking. I highly doubt the guy had any time to search, pick and choose any movie in advance if he's being worked to the bone.
I don’t know, if I was tired as fuck from work I think the last thing I’d want to do is watch that is unfamiliar to me. It’s more of a comfort program situation.
Jesus, why is everyone keep confusing things in this comment section? A joke someone comes up with in a conversation isn't what he's talking about when he's talking about improv. Have you ever seen Whose Line Is It Anyway? That's what improv comedy is, the "yes, and" type of improv/performance/comedy. That's what he says he doesn't like, not every joke everyone ever came up with on the spot in a conversation. That would be absurd, don't you think?
The basic premise for The Wrong Missy actually sounds intriguing, to the point where I am certain the idea came from someone outside of Sandler's creative circle.
I feel sympathy for the "director" of this movie. There is absolutely no way this person has any control over what is going on. These millionaire actors are there to give it their least and collect a paycheck. The camera department is there to construct scenes in the most economical way possible and go home. This movie wouldn't look any different no matter who is in the director's chair.
Wait a second. Mike's been advocating the closure of movie theaters for quite some time now. Is HE responsible for the corona virus?! Close Old Venues In- Definitely Oh my Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!
There is a good reason to laugh at improv shows, and it is that if you're watching improv, it's because a friend of yours is in it and he sorta guilted you into going and watching, and you don't want them to feel bad about being unfunny.
Just watched The Assistant. It is indeed very boring. But boy did I find it great. Great filmmaking. Great subject. Great angle. Thanks for the recommandation.
@Sterling Archer You mean the Inarritu movie with Brad Pitt? Why that one in particular? Not sure I see the connection... (also, didn't really like it that much, tbh).
Man, as a big fan of Lapkus from the podcast circuit, it was hard to even watch the trailer for that movie. She is a genuinely hilarious person in the right context - but the whole film feels so over-wrought, like Spade/Happy Madison/whoever was in charge were just like: 'no, we want it to be CRAZIER, like really AMP IT UP - no no like OVERDO it MORE' But who the hell is the up and coming actor - who somehow gets the paycheck and opportunity to be the lead in a Big Netflix Movie - who is going to sidle up to the fucking Happy Madison guys of all people and be like: "Hey this character is a bit too wacky and unlikable, what if I go for a more understated vibe?" *a foreign grandma falls out of her wheelchair and does a fart*
Yeah she's a great comedian. I don't blame her for taking this role because I'm sure she got a fat paycheck for it, but I agree it's still a bummer that most people will only know her for this
A bunch of 'Lost' actors took up residence in Hawaii, so I'm guessing the Jorge Garcia was about availability more than anything. The production was probably after the series finale for Hawaii 5-0 wrapped, so he was at loose ends and probably has some friends somewhere in the Happy Madison extended family.
This formula of "One movie you've heard of, and one actual, good film," is great, and I hope it gives more people an appreciation for quality film making.
The Wrong Missy is like a straight to DVD comedy that was shat out during the 00's. That being said it's no surprise it rates higher with audiences, they tend to go for crap like this.
After listening to Tiger Belly it sounds like Nick Swardsen was actually later admitted into a hospital after a drinking binge that basically lasted 3 months he did almost die and I believe went into a bit of a comatose state for a while, so right on the dot really haha
I'm a little annoyed that Adam Sandler keeps getting away with his vacations masquerading as movies. But at least he takes cares of his friends financially. I gotta give him that.
I've had about fifteen recommendations before this to watch 'The Wrong Missy' Guess I'll base my entire outlook and feelings on the movie based on what these two hacks have to say...

man i came to say the same thing. i only really know her from I4H but she's always been one of my favorite names to see pop up on that show. shame that they typecast her so damn hard in this movie. it just looks unwatchable. hopefully it doesn't ruin her chances at better spots in the future. her role in the two ferns movie had a much better balance of wackiness with actual personality.
I went to a local improv show last year, I also didn’t laugh once. Alternatively I recently watched the Middleditch & Schwartz improv special on Netflix and found myself laughing hysterically, but as I skimmed through my favorite bits I realized I wasn’t laughing at the scenarios and goofs they were making up, I was laughing at them breaking character and questioning each others’ logic of the choices they made, it was like watching a blooper reel. So I guess for me it depends on the performers and their chemistry 🤷🏻♂️
Hahah, this randomly reminded me of when I was probably 13 and met one of my good friends who was 18. We were into dungeons and dragons and shit, but one day I asked him why he hangs out with me, and he said "You laugh at all my jokes!" 😄
Disease rooms...! Honestly though, it's been at least 3 years that we hardly go to the theatre anymore, because every single time it seems so many people are sick in there - sniffling in your ear, coughing, etc. Then, you have to deal with so many people behaving as if the place was their living room... We might just never go back.
It's the worse lol..I love watching on the big screen with the sound system but dealing with people talking at random parts or laughing at parts of movies that aren't even funny that make you miss the actual funny parts because you can't hear plus dealing with everything else that wasn't mentioned in our comments and paying 20 bucks for it all for a movie that ends up sucking most of the time anyway no thanks..

Admittedly, he *also* did this, and it's also monstrous in its own way, but the reason people remember it like this is because he made it so.
The movie would have worked a lot better if the entire movie had that kind of tone. That kind of old school dry darker sense of humor. Instead of being just gross out humor, making light of sexual assault etc. Basically if it was directed and produced by anybody except the guys at Happy Maddison. Yeah, it's a tough genre, hard to get it right. I mean, with a mediocre drama, say, or an action movie you'd be like "meh, that was okay". But with a comedy it just falls flat. Tag and Game Night from a couple of years ago were pretty decent if you wanna check them out.

But who the hell is the up and coming actor - who somehow gets the paycheck and opportunity to be the lead in a Big Netflix Movie - who is going to sidle up to the fucking Happy Madison guys of all people and be like:
