Joel, your film is really amazing. I came here via Balkan Insight article as well (as previous commenter), and I believe you are absolutely right in your statements expressed in that article. As FK Sarajevo supporter I am proud of fellow Sarajevans when it comes to Derby - it was always friendly derby, and some incidents happened and will always happen when you have 20, 30 or 40 thousand people roaming around the city on the day of the game. Sarajevo derby, actually, reminds me of Liverpool derby, in many way: Reds (well Maroon) vs. Blues, friends and families divided on that day, lots of noise and smoke, firecrackers and torches, but no "fire". It really is unique city derby. Thanks for wonderful film.
An article on Balkan Insight brought me here. Quite an objective and truthful perspective from that guy. Very prepared. I'm from Albania btw. I remember as a kid watching the war on TV didn't make sense at all to me and most people. Once neighbors, suddenly killing each other. Balkans has always had a troubled history. That doesn't mean young generations like that guy aren't supposed to live in peace and prosper together. People shouldn't succumb to nationalistic, war and conflict rhetoric which serves only the political elite. Learn from past mistakes. Also EU institutions should keep in mind that poverty and instability leads eventually to nationalism and extremism, so the whole Balkans sooner or later should integrate in Europe as a whole. Someone might not agree with me because of EU dubious economic policies, nonetheless that doesn't mean people should not share different perspectives towards a common European future for all Balkans. We must all stand together as Europeans.
