Parallel compression. It's great stuff, especially on instruments with large transients, like bass and kick drum.

Thanks for your insight again Jason. You always stir the imagination for new methods to change things up that just might spark a new idea. Great job.

Jason, just wanted to thank you so much for your videos. I got an HX Stomp for Christmas and your videos helped me immensely on learning how to use it. Also I just ordered a Morningstar MC6 yesterday. Can’t wait to start using that too.

I usually don't use Compression, but I'm always willing to learn, and I appreciate your tips and insights. I'll have to try the settings you demonstrated. Thanks
Regarding "feel," after adjusting all the usual suspects (Impedance, Bias, BiasX, Sag, etc.), which did help some, I found the main culprit was the "Cab Mic" selection on my HX Stomp. I switched out the "57 Dynamic" and replaced it with the "160 Ribbon" then adjusted it to the following settings. For my Strat, I used: "2x12 Jazz Rivet" Cab, Mic: 160 Ribbon, Position: 1 inch, Low Cut: 130 Hz, High Cut: 17.0 kHz, Early Reflections: 0%, Level: 0.0 dB. I used the "Jazz Rivet" Amp block. Now, all the excessive highs, sizzle, and weird feel is gone.

Maaaaaan I'm using this trick for guitar and will try it on bass too! Thanks Jason!

I’ve incorporated your compression tips since I started using the hx Stomp 2 years ago. Thanks for expanding on it

I took your advice, and gave a Compressor in my HX Stomp another shot last night, and I'm sure glad I did. I used the "Deluxe Comp" and got the best sounding results I've ever gotten using a Compressor. I stayed up for hours playing with the Compressor and enjoying a world of tone I could never get previously. THANKS!!! 😎

Thanks for your tip, Jason. So clever of you to suggest using the compressor’s mix to control the tone blend because that would allow this technique to be used with any hardware and by anyone, adjusted to the player’s ears. All your previous tips have worked well for me so far (especially using the compressor at the end of chain & the low-high shelf to cut thru the mix without raising my volume) and I have no doubt this will as well. Appreciate your sharing.

I think this is a great tip, I run the LA studio compressor and an EQ after all my amps, to me it's part of the philosophy of "its not an amp in the room", "it's coming though a channel on your studio board". An engineer would apply these things, and it always improves the sound. Great tips as always Jason.

    Another helpful video.
Could you please take a look at the 'double take' & 'stereo imager' blocks in a video?
    Keep up great work 👍🏻

Great video again Jason thanks for taking the time out to do it for us. One annoying thing I find with my Helix patches and it seems to happen on many of them, when doing solos the 1st string always sounds a bit thin and lacking compared to other strings. I have tried EQ boosting the highs but it just never seems to make it unless it’s a solo with plenty of delay and dirty like in Run to You by Bryan Adam. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers Mike

Great video, Jason. Compression in my view is arguably the most misunderstood effect. Unless you're going for obvious squish, when it's set just right, you notice it only when it's turned off.

86 views and only 7 likes? This does not make sense to me. Come on guys. The likes put butter on Jason’s bread!

Mr Jason is there a eq that I can use on say your template that will control my powercab sound in the room that will give me the ability to brighten the sound or rather open it up some to sound more like a reg amp in the room and not be so muffled

This technique should translate to other effects as well. Adjusting the effect for a strong setting but turn down the mix to let the dry come through.

I found this trick supergood, especially before or even after an OD boosting the amp. It adds more body to the tone, more sustain at the end, but still keeping a reasonable dynamic . so now I need to try even after the amp.thanks! 💪

For those of you who don't find that there's a big difference: compression makes a lot of difference in the playing and not so much in the actual sound
