Indeed, if you've read Shadows of the Empire and/or played X-WIng Alliance you'd know Black Sun was VERY useful to Palpatine, namely the "Death Star II plans".

Black Sun is such an interesting organization. Actually, everything about the crime aspect of the Star Wars Galaxy is always interesting and I would love if there was more of it.
Perhaps we'll get it. The seeds have been sown, even though the reception has been mixed, but that's to be expected. Perhaps eventually Star Wars will finally find its footing and we'll get a golden age of Star Wars entertainment, like Star Trek in the 80's and 90's.
Empire at War: Forces of Corruption lets you play as a crime boss in association with the Black Sun. There's several comic books which explore the Black Sun as well. And have you played Kotor 1 or 2? They're hugely involved with criminal underworlds, and you literally get the head of the Exchange as a party member. There's plenty of stuff if you have the time :)
Absolutely loved this video and have to agree I think there is a treasure trove of stories that could be created from all of those criminal syndicates.
The black sun always survives where others fall: The Zann consortium, The Empire of Jabba, the shadow collective, the exchange, the corporate sector authority. But the black sun will endure where all others fall, better a black sun than no sun
The Zann consortium never fell though. Zann simply went underground once he got all the boundless credits he wanted. And he let everyone destroy each other while he sat back living in luxury.
Issue there is the Hutts have had a criminal empire for thousands of years. They just dress it up as legit and the galaxy doesn't look closely for the simple reason of it is easier this way.
How awesome would it be if there would be a Star Wars underworld"game where you can choose your criminal organization like the Black Sun, Hutts, Pikes Syndicate, etc
Star wars empire at war. Forces of corruption has plenty of mods where you can play as them and contr the whole galaxy. You fight in space and groundm I'd recommend the awakening of the rebellion mod
I got confused for a moment when you mentioned Maul taking control Black Sun but then I remembered TCW is still officially smushed into the Legends, EU Canon.
@@batalorian7997 it was considered T canon’ or TV canon. So just below the movies in terms of importance, but with the power to retcon anything previously present in the Legends canon. So every new TCW episode rewrote previous, estabilished canon

Just because legends authors try to roll with it retroactively and work clonewars stuff into their work simply because it has more screen presence, it doesn't change the fact that the lore was changed unnecessarily by the clone wars in various areas. It is actually in theory a good thing that the clone wars is now considered to be canon because it removes it from relevance to legends.
Fun fact!: If you ever need to recruit the Black Sun for your nefarious purposes, the best way to do so is to decapitate all of the leaders' at once! Maul can attest to this method.
I love the presentation of Black Sun as a middle ground between light and dark, rather than the usual 'wretched scum and villainy' angle. It's not something I would have thought to do, but now I consider it in context (Especially having recently read Star Wars: Scoundrels) it does make quite a bit of sense.
Honestly Disney Wars should expand upon the criminal and corporate worlds of Star Wars. Was always cool as hell having corporate and criminal fiefdoms in the Outer Rim with branches everywhere.
@@duncanharrell5009 I would say the InterGalactic Banking Clan was actually one of the most powerful entities in the Galaxy! In Legends I read that Munnulist and Mygeeto (planets ruled by the Banking Clan) was so wealthy in mineral deposits that it was able to back the Galactic Credits as well as the money used in civilizations found in satellite galaxies like Fire Fists which was beyond the main Galaxy! They were the only separatist corporation that wasn’t punished under the Empire or seized and nationalized when compared to the Trade Federation since the effects of doing so would have have been consequences for the Empire on a a huge economic level. Even after the fall of the Empire they remained under the Imperial Remnant but still backed the currency of the growing New Republic! This angered the Imperial Remnant but there was nothing they could do about it either and allowed it even though they disagreed with it!
But I think the idea they put forward in legends of their origin makes total sense with their name. That they started off as a vigilante group and were open about that. It's kind of what Black Sun has always been. Very moderate criminals. Moderation is how you get big, being too shy means you will get overwhelmed by competition but being too bold and brazen will get you crushed. You want to be bold enough that others don't mess with you but also low down enough that galactic governments won't seriously try to crush you.
Rumored to be tied to some significant occult secret as well, of a dark sun, and maybe tied to electric universe, ah, conspiracy claims. Or so some at least say.
I cannot get enough of these remastered videos!! Your creativity is utter genius, subtlety and moral ambiguity woven into every detail. And the narrator's voice is hypnotic. When I've had a stressful Zoom call I put on one of these videos for a few minutes of calm-down before the next call, as his voice is so soporific. And the narrative stories are beautiful. 3:20 I think it would want to obey some laws absolutely perfectly to the letter. That's what that intelligence is good for, know what rules are strongly enforced and which are not. Follow the strictly enforced laws and the ones people care about extremely closely and bend the lesser important rules to varying degrees. The key is to obey the rules the people want you to obey and to not obey the ones people don't care about.
I think it's funny that the Black Sun was supposedly formed during the timeline of TOR, because that was a time when Bounty Hunting was an official branch of the Sith Empire, and when Smuggers were "Republic Privateers. When criminal syndicates were the playthings of Sith Lords, and when the Hutt Cartel bowed to the Jedi. It's amazing that they were able to even get a hold on the galaxy while remaining neutral during that time.

The most awful thing in the Star Wars galaxy is the fact that pretty much every war has been caused because of the philosophical divide between two groups of space wizards. And billions of normal people have died because they were either dragged into it or caught in the crossfire. Perhaps things would be better if the force, the Jedi and the Sith never existed to begin with.
You're partially correct however not all wars were caused just by the conflict between those two religious orders. E.g. the Mandalorians were capable of causing great havoc without using the force as their weapon/philisophy.
11:20 Technically, Vader destroyed the city they were in to stop a bioweapon leak. The main lesson I took from Shadows of the Empire was if you played both sides, both sides would try to kill you. The Rebels wrecked Xizor's planetside palace, and Vader killed Xizor by blowing up his space station.
If Boba Fett had taken over Black Sun it would have stopped all criminal activity and legitimately set up orphanages and soup kitchens. And "Underlord" Fett would have dressed up and celebrated Wookie Life Day with the kiddies.
