- Leica vs Sony, the unexpected battle. Leica make some of the best lenses ever made, but can they compete with full frame? Full frame vs micro four thirds. What happens when you put the best lens ever made on the worst body? Leica 200mm f2.8 prime lens for wildlife photography, on an Olympus EM1 III or OM1 vs a Sony A7S III with 200-600mm f5.6-6.3. Can the sharpest lens ever make up for not being full frame?

It's neat to see you develop Kasey. It looks like you're naturally developing the "Wildlife Trinity." FF 70-200, 150-600, and a fast prime 400mm f/2.8 or 600mm f/4.
That trinity also works on the wildlife in a football stadium.
The sewer robin after his rat fight 🔟🥇cinema gold. Cecil B Demille is green with envy
Slow Motion Street Videography is such a cool niche, it's pretty fun to watch and you can really appreciate the little nuances of life. I hope you keep going with it! I might take a crack at it one of these days.
Glad you love the lens man. Thanks for the shout out!
Hey Flipafone guy :)
The woodpecker capture in sunlight eating berries is flawless. So colorful and sharp! We have the magic!
I am so excited for future videos with GH6 with both of these new lenses. I think it’s great you found deals on both!
I have the 50-200 and can’t imagine why I would need the 200 prime. I would love to be proven wrong here
I want to say the same thing too, the bokeh on this one is the smoothest this far. The Fuji is the busiest one
I could deffinetly feel your enthusiasm in this video Kasey. Happy for you that you got 2 of the best Panny/Leica lenses. Can hardly wait for you're thoughts on the 50-200 as im also eyeing one myself.
PS. I've also picked up a bad habit from you. (calling people that deserve it 'pieces of s**t)...😅🤔
That 50-200mm 2.8-4 is just STUNNING. I love it.
Leica 4k sample looked amazing. I find using the GH5 that a 200mm prime (I use a vintage minolta or pentax) is good for dog to human size, or larger birds in a surrounding, also things like boats just offshore etc. Small or more distant birds it doesn't compete with my 500mm mirror lens setup. Basically, if not filming birds 200 mm is all you need on a M43. 4k120 on the GH6 should be a blast, looking forward to vicariously enjoying that. Re lens cap, between using a UV filter and the depth of the hood - what are you even worried about? Alternatively buy a cap that fits the hood if you're really worried.
Canon R7 and Canon EF 300 mm 2.8 with 1.4x teleconverter, about $3,500. It's my favorite Wildlife setup and my Sony A7iv with the 135mm 1.8 is just kicking butt everywhere else.
I'm obsessed with 3D Pop ever since you started talking about it, and ow its all I can think about when considering lenses. Definitely seeing some here on your 200-600 with the Sony, but that Leica has a different feel about it. If only you could put the Leica on your Sony, real magic would happen.
I think you created a new genre with slow motion street videography. It should be a thing. Nice birds.
Those Olympus / Leica colours are SO NICE.
The lens prices have reached comical proportions. 20k for a Nikon 400mm? It's a nice lens, but 20k is really pushing it.
That tripod foot is exactly that: a tripod foot, not a handle. Get yourself a shoulder harness (Blackrapid, my suggestion). I've never seen ANYONE carry such a lens by the tripod foot. You're asking for droppage. I just invented that word.
P.S. - that "kinglet" at 5:53 is actually a White-throated Sparrow. OTOH you do have a Golden-crowned Kinglet at 7:33.
Can you get a larger lens cap, that fits the hood itself? Like an 80(ish) mm cap.
Never thought of that, probably :)
I would love to see a blind test for a 3D pop on your channel! That would be so funny!
me too. 3D pop, is it real or a myth? I love when pople get upset about this topic here and forget the Channel's name is Camera Conspiracies. :)
First time Leica is cheaper than other options
Leica designed the optics, paired with Lumix developed stabilization electronics and Auto Focus motors. Since a lens is defined by their optics, they are certified by Leica AG and branded as Leica, though assembled in Japan.
The Lumix G LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 10-25mm / F1.7 ASPH. And The Lumix G LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm / F1.7 ASPH. Are fantastic lens that produce absolutely amazing image quality.
The Lumix LEICA DG SUMMILUX 15mm / F1.7 ASPH. Is also a micro wonder of a lens. all produce beautifully sharp results.
Zero regrets, glad I stuck with µ4/3 and the GH series, in particular the GH5II…
I have an eye for that Lumix G LEICA DG ELMARIT 200mm / F2.8. ASPH. And the The Lumix G LEICA DG SUMMILUX 9mm / F1.7 ASPH. Too, both seem like they would be equally able to match the image quality of the other three lens. Eventually I will find out…
🤔
@@kcliffordphoto “µ” Is the twelfth letter of the Greek Alphabet, Mu/Micron/Micro…
🤔
@@kcliffordphoto “µ” can be used in place of the word “Micro,” as it is one of the actual meanings for that symbol, as I denoted in my prior post. The word “Micro” in Micro Four Thirds, has nothing to do with “Pixels” or the “Sensor.” It is a reference to the flange distance of the cameras sensor and the lens optical element, due to the fact that it is a “Mirrorless” technology. The sensor technology prior with mirror was simply known as Four Thirds, which denotes the size.
Canon or Nikon for instance, their DSLR technology with mirrors was essentially their previous technology, and they have moved forward to “Mirrorless” technology, which allows them to shorten the flange distance of the lens mount, thus bringing the optical element closer to the sensor.
So, by using the logic put forth by Olympus/ Panasonic Lumix cameras in reference to the previous Four Thirds technology, you could refer to Canon/Nikons new camera systems as Micro Thirty Five, and Micro APS-C.
Hasselblad’s mirrorless medium format cameras could also be referred to as Micro Medium Format…
Hope this helps…..
🤔
I bet someone would 3D print you some caps for that teleconverter.
The tan white dogs were whippets, the long haired one was a whippet-cross that they call a “lurcher”.
Recent James Cameron videos show him when he was hitting up Sony with specific requests for a 3D camera. They produced. Nice to be there. A lot of people don't know Fuji got Sony to produce their sensors. What's funny about Sony, is even though they have always made great pro headphones, they have never been the folks people go to to buy speakers.
@13:00 Pailin from RUclips Channel Pailin's Kitchen?
Try the hook side of a piece of adhesive backed velcro to add security to that slippery lens foot. Works for me. Fills me with a sense of security every time I grab my big lens by the foot.
Keep meaning to try the 200mm on an OM-1 in 200fps 10 bit FHD, see if it's much better than the old E-M1. Will upload when I get some footage when the weather is better here. GH6 and A7s slowmo will likely be better.
I am going to help you Kasey, and throw in a shameless plug. I had the same no cap issue buying a used TC for my fujifilm GF 250mm lens (see my video on my channel on that lens Filmstudiotaku Japan).. For me the solution to the no cap issue was so close but so far away because of the GFX monster size of everything, but for you it is as simple as a plastic Q-tip/ear cleaning swab container. Assuming the same kind can be found in your parts. They have a cap they stays on solid, and you can use a lens cloth or two as you are to keep it stationary if it is too big. Also the GF lens has the same mount issue and same jagged metal on the knuckles issue as detailed in my GF 250mm video at my filmstudiotaku Japan channel =D
This lens makes m4/3 look pretty damn good
so your complaint is that the is shiny and the knurling is too good? and the image.....the olympus is unironically sharper
Its clearly digital sharpening though. It looks worse exactly because it is digitally sharper.
GH6 with that lens will be GOLD. Get the 9mm 1.7 and your dreams will come true. The cinema will finally be yours!
And deffinetly ours also! can't wait!
Look forward to your thoughts on the 50 200
I suspected that lens was big money, but not as many dingers as the others. Whew. The footage looks really good.
Hey Kasey,
In the market for a second camera. Currently running my xt3 as a run n gun rig and wanted something for photos for about $1k. Came across a xh2s for $2250. Should I pull the trigger n use the xt3 for photos? It’s out of my budget but can move some funds to make it happen. Just wondering if it’s worth it and wanted your pov since I respect your opinion on the xh2s vs xt4. Thanks
Damn the 100-400 bokeh does really look busy, I wonder what the Fuji 150-600 or 200mm prime looks like (maybe that would be decent comparison as well as it’s 300 F2 equivalent and can take teleconverters
I have the 100-400mm...waiting on your review...and what were the sounds...lol
Use a Pringles tube lid or a silicone stretch jar cover as a cap for the lens hood.
I love how you nail Tony’s voiceover voice 😂
From the wildlife of nature to wildlife to the city hahaha. It will be good content too!
Just an FYI that 200mm with 1.4mm makes that an f4 lens at 380mm. For price comparisons you should look at 400mm f4 or 4.5 lenses. There's good affordable-ish glass in that range.
You could also compare getting a 70-200mm and a 1.4x Tele..
It's 280mm. And there are no modern mirrorless 400mm f4 lenses.
@@cameraconspiracies A tip for you Kasey: You once complained about Panasonic asking questions when you go into the sensor crop mode. There's a faster way. On GH6 and GH5 II (which both use the S series menu system and nomenclature), you set a custom button to "Image Area of Video" (that's the 1:1 pixel readout mode). I set mine to right joystick press. Anyways, all you have to do is press the button twice (once opens the menu and the 2nd press cycles to the counter option ... that's it). Then you can half press shutter once to confirm which also exits the questionaire or press shutter all the way / video record button once to confirm and start recording. A lot of people don't know this. So, double tap custom button then hit shutter to immediately begin recording. This is true for all on screen display options, it can even be done when changing white balance. This is not archaic Sony ergonomics where you have to confirm with a separate button, get your mind out of the Sony ghetto please. Sony doesn't know what they are doing for video. Your A7S III will never get the focus breathing compensation, and I shudder to think how bad it would be at a 180 degree shutter angle since it is doing digital crops. You're heading in the right direction. I'm a huge Panasonic MFT fanboy since 2014 but even I don't want the GH6 due to the streaking issue. I plan to keep using the GH5 II until a hypothetical GH7. However, that 240fps 10 bit 4:2:0 might be pretty good especially in the conditions you shoot in. I own the PL 100-400, I think the 50-200 might be better and I look forward to seeing you test it out. The 200mm f/2.8 footage looks promising despite being over sharpened on that Olympus :)
strictly speaking to account for sensor size, cropping in with a competing 200mm 2.8 to match sensor surface area would be the best comparison, but I guess that's sort of academic, and the Leica would 100% win...
@@cameraconspiracies You're right it is 280, I rounded the 280 up to 300 and my coffee deprived brain said don't forget to add that 2x40 in there. (Ah brain you did it again with the maths. Way to go buddy.) So anyways 300mm glass at f4 would be the correct comparison. On a different note Nikon does have 400mm f4.5 glass for mirrorless.
Hi Camera Conspiracies, how are you and what did you have for breakfast today?
You should know I don't eat breakfast :)
Maybe the other dog is a lurcher? They can look a lot of different ways, basically a mix of a greyhound (or a whippet) with another breed
Is the Nikon 400mm also a Tamron?
m43 3D pop suffers because it seems the manufacturers try so very hard to make the images/footage look sharp that they end up making the blurred background details sharp as well, which is absolutely unlike what the naked eye sees.
That lens looks fantastic.
I don’t like the tripod feet on the lenses. I found it so much easier for me if I take it off and just hold the lens right in front of the mount where it is smallest it is very comfortable and weight balanced
What about compared to Canon and Nikon's 400mm 5.6?
The micro 4/3 glory will be yours. Im really looking forward to that Leica and Panasonic combo. In good light it is going to look glorious. The word is spreading in hollywood and they are making popcorn in anticipation for your wildlife cinematography
Try the Leica 90-280mm f2.8-4 and you'll get your mind blown even though it isn't a 400mm lens. Or a manual 400mm Leica APO R lens!
HEY! I was in that porta-potty! How dare you spray paint it and then move a desk next to it while I was trying to tinkle and so forth.
The elusive 3D pop, will we every find an example of it in its full glory? I hope! Always enjoy the content and humor! Thanks for a smile at the beginning of the day!
That was a nice desk 👌
Those white dogs are too small to be Greyhounds, I think they're Whippets. The furry black dog is likely a "Lurcher"; any sighthound mixed with another breed is called a Lurcher.
Dude… put an arca swiss extended plate on that mount and you’ll have a good handle.
I sometimes throw a camera cage top handle on my lens foot. Good for carrying, and filming under slung.
The Leica 50mm..200mm for city wildlife..& slow mo..200mm mainly contry and slow mo f2.8
Admit it Kasey -- you *really* want to use that Leica lens on your old G85!!!
lol, G85 was a good camera. It did panoramic in camera.
@@entrigueall2661 -- Yup. Kasey should never have sold his!!!
I also cannot understand how companies design the collar/foot. For example on sony 100-400 it is to small to ba a stable handle and has no built in arca-swiss mount. It is quite pointless that it is there, when you have to buy different foot or a plate so it has any functionality. I used to have Olympus 100-400 and the issue was the same. How can they not understand it while designing?
Arca Swiss might have a patent on the design?
@@LtDeadeyeMaybe, but they could buy a license for using this solution when charging so much money for a lens. Somehow Tamron and Sigma have arca swiss foot in much cheaper lenses.
GH6 😮 I am looking forward to that review. You should reach out to Sun Camera to ask about that rattle sound they are pretty good, I've had a couple lenses serviced there.
woo hoo, it's finally here! Been waiting for this one for a while now! If you need to punch in I use a dedicated button to activate the x.Tele 1.4 feature on my G9. Can't wait to see the GH6 results, I will be jealous for sure..
It's a rich game of checkers. As you give me a heart attack playing slip-the-donkey with the slickery lens of doom I thought to myself you really don't deserve that lens checkers boy.
Damm that image looks good actually.. good purchase
[14:09] You need to use chopsticks to put the lens cap back in.
Great deal congrats. It will be interesting to see if you like it better than the Panasonic Leica 50-200 zoom. Best to see results on Panasonic body.
Sony footage looks soo much better to me. Olympus is quite soft, some details look oversharpened, more noise.... it's bad overall, IMO. Watching this on a 4K monitor that I use for editing myself, I can really tell the difference.
The Olympus 120fps footage is an utter disgrace.
I don’t agree. The Sony footage looks better for sure. But I don’t think the Olympus looked that bad frankly.
Can’t beat that FF glory.
Congrats on the Leica. Did you sell it already?
Now you need to do the same shots again on a bridge camera like a Lumix FZ-85. How different are the shots compared to a $500 bridge camera with a more powerful lense? That would be a conspiracy.
rooting for gh6!!
the rattling, my heart sank when i heard it. it rattles my soul, i understand the feeling!
anxiously awaiting Panny boy to displace the Sony alien color science.
really can't wait to see the 200mm on a GH6 which has better processing than even a P50....and later the zoom 50/200 plus more slow mo cityscapes..on route to the birds..with fine feathers..city birds & contry birds..
I look forward to your gh6 videos
The Leica is pure gold and at a decent price even if it is Canjun dollars. But how can you and why are you comparing this prime 200mm to Sony, etc. 400mm (which correct me if I am wrong) are zoom lenses? The prime, however well constructed, is a simpler construction which probably makes it less expensive.
Put some grip tape on the inside of the handle, like skateboard stuff or w/e
Thank god im also happy with a Sigma 150-600C i got for slightly more than 500€ 2nd hand.
Absolute garbage for video without tripod, but so awesome for wildlife photography.
Leica-branded lens on Lumix LX10 has hardly any stabe...
Try putting the foot on backwards, might be easier to carry
I have the 50-200 for my GH5/GH6 and while it is an amazing lens, I hardly ever use it (I got it for two film projects). I am happy you're back with Panasonic (for the time being). Please make sure you have some ND filters, as the DR Boost on the GH6 almost requires it every time.
Rookie talk, let the shutter ride :)
toothpicks and Krazy glue works wonders
It's a wolfhound :)
Go for just ibis and turn lens stabe off. That worked best for me
primes are .often..best..maybe 200mm @f4 ? so far the 200mm @f2.8? has 3D pop Leica is the best..the P50pro has a f3.5 240mm Leica which with the September update is producing great images...better than my A7R3 which has clunky processing...have you used the converter..which makes it 249mm f4?? camera labs said
"somethings loose" so many answers, so little time 😜👍
... just emerged from the sewers after a rat fight... well said well spoken bg. That 'nervous' toneh of the fuji is kinda trippy though... I'd use it.
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it.
"your waste, is our waste" - the most accurate quote relating to mankind and nature
Piece of ducktape on the tripod foot should do it. A little ugliness goes a long way! $2195's worth.
Those look like whippets not greyhounds Kasey.
That is a good lens, indeed.
Start a gofundme and let’s get you that Gh6.
Buy a 3d printer for 17k and print the missing cap 🤣🤣
Nikon has a new 400mm T4.5 for almost the same price. Full frame magic can be yours.
Dibs on that 50-200 if you get bored with it.
I believe the dogs were whippets.
No, I think it is a Lurcher. Though I am UK, so may only b called that here...
These lenses are not rated in T stops. T stops are f stops divided by the square root of the light transmission value, but who cares the video is still funny and informative. The price of the Nikon 400 2.8 is 11,200.00 from B&H. I'm still bleeding from the eyes after purchasing that lense. but it is sooo worth the money.
T = Toneh.
@@cameraconspiracies My apologies I realized that about 30 mins after I posted it. Won't happen again
…”just emerged from the sewer after a rat fight”….
Fuji 200 + converter
Some lovely shots there from the both the Sony and the Panny-Olympus combo.
Definitely fun times ahead with the upcoming comparisons
"Sony sensors" in Leica cameras is the conspiracy
There I was, standing on my three legged symbolic stool of full frame superiority, and you kicked the stool out from under me! That lens makes the MFT footage look pretty darn good. I looked like that robin with hobo neck feathers, sprawled on the floor in my sadness. Yes, FF is still better, but not much. You shattered my dreams, turned them into used coffee grounds, and then fed them to night crawler worms. At least I can use them for catching a tasty bass.
Have people lost their minds with canon,Sony, etc prices. You can buy a small car for that😄
