In this lecture we will study the following:-
Gupta Administration:-
Various names of Empire:- "Rajya", Rashtra", "Desha", "Mandala", "Prithvi" and "Avani“.
- The Empire was divided into provinces called as Bhukti, Bhoga and pradesha.
- Provinces further divided into "Vishayas" and came under the control of persons called "Vishaya Patis".
- "Vishaya" further divided into "Nagaras" and "Nagares" were divided into villages.
- A group or collection of villages was called "Pethaka" and "Santaka".
- Smaller units of a village were "Agrahara" and "Patta".
Society:-
- Position of Shudras improved they were allowed to listen to the epics and worship Lord Krishna.
- On the other hand untouchability intensified. Katyayna (Smriti Writer) used expression Asprasya (Untouchable).
- Position of women detirioted.
ECONOMY
- The Economy during the Gupta period was moving from 18 sources or types of Taxes levied on the people; the greater part of it was spent on works of public welfare.
- Land revenue was the main source was generally fixed at one-sixth of the produce.
- Guptas issued largest number of gold coins in ancient India but not as pure as Kushans.

Sir,if I’m not wrong ..as per my knowledge gathered,,,kumaramatyas were now a part of mantriprashad during the Gupta period not like the provincial administrator during Mauryan period..
Sir we know that the gupta empire was divided into 26 provinces and they were further divided into vishayas. Do we know the name of those provinces and those vishayas and their administrative provincial capitals?
