I went to high school with Ben Schneider and Mark Barry (and Tom I guess, but I didn’t know of him at the time). Okemos High School, in Michigan. They were a year older than me. I knew of Ben because his dad, John, was a writer for the Lansing State Journal, a local newspaper. I knew of Mark because his dad, Jim, was my band teacher in 7th grade and also the high school band teacher. I had some friends in the drum corps who played with Mark, so he and I had many friends in common, although I don’t remember having any real interaction with him. I remember my friends really looking up to Mark since he was obviously a master drummer, even back then. Ben, I would just see him in the school halls here and there. Always seemed quiet and reserved. Had no idea they had a band together or even that they were friends. 13 years after I graduated, a mutual friend from our school who played drums with Mark shared their music on Facebook. I listened and loved it, been hooked ever since. Kind of cool that some guys from a small town in Michigan made it big. Really happy for them.
Damn, I’m so jealous haha. I always wondered if the place they lived had a matching vibe with the initial albums(Lonesome Dreams and Whispering Pines). What do you think? Cheers from Italy
@@dudeyouresick4281 I would say no, haha. It’s a pretty small, average suburb. There used to be a lot of forests and woods surrounding the area, before they started building houses and businesses over them. I’m pretty sure Ben was a graphic designer or artist before doing music. I think he may have traveled a lot too. I think he has a pretty wild imagination. I remember seeing him around in school and he always seemed kind of quiet and like he was in deep thought. Unfortunately never got to have a conversation with him.
I saw them for my third time at Red Rocks this past summer on their second night there. They played this one "for all of you out there who have been here since the beginning", and they extended the end of this song and completely rocked out on the melody for like a solid 5 minutes. It was amazing and I still think about just how happy Ben and the rest of the band looked jamming out and just having fun with their freeform, extended version of this song every time I hear it again. Thanks for the upload, Mr. Casey!
Through the dawning age We go walking together Toward the yawning grave Burning days as we make our way We'll leave our bones in the dust An untold legend is lighting up What if I was the last sight you ever saw? Would you die with a smile on your face? Well, don't even try to say you will 'Cause you'd hardly recognize the sight The young are getting old and the summer is cold All the birds have been singing at night When we're dead and gone Will the mountains remember? Or just carry on Moving as slow as the forest grows And turn our bones into dust An untold legend is lighting up When will I reach that light that I'm running to? When I die, will it turn out forever? There's a fire burning inside of me When I die, will I burn out forever? You don't need to lie, I know it will 'Cause the darkness doesn't need the light All the young are getting old and the summer is cold And all the birds have been singing at night Well, don't even try to save me, friend 'Cause I know it ain't worth the fight All the young are getting old and the summer is cold And all the birds have been singing at night

@@domnhallcalderwood wow, really interesting to know. Thanks for sharing man
@@domnhallcalderwoodI know his parents have a summer place on Lake Huron. He spent much time there.
This group. Their lyrics and variety of musical styles. It’s perfect for living in the Olympic National Forest.

Great song
Through the dawning age
We go walking together
Toward the yawning grave
Burning days as we make our way
We'll leave our bones in the dust
An untold legend is lighting up
What if I was the last sight you ever saw?
Would you die with a smile on your face?
Well, don't even try to say you will
'Cause you'd hardly recognize the sight
The young are getting old and the summer is cold
All the birds have been singing at night
When we're dead and gone
Will the mountains remember?
Or just carry on
Moving as slow as the forest grows
And turn our bones into dust
An untold legend is lighting up
When will I reach that light that I'm running to?
When I die, will it turn out forever?
There's a fire burning inside of me
When I die, will I burn out forever?
You don't need to lie, I know it will
'Cause the darkness doesn't need the light
All the young are getting old and the summer is cold
And all the birds have been singing at night
Well, don't even try to save me, friend
'Cause I know it ain't worth the fight
All the young are getting old and the summer is cold
And all the birds have been singing at night
