Can't say you won't be able to pull it off but probably most of the crowd your age will not appreciate it much. It's not an easy fragrance to wear, it has character and makes a statement, you will be noticed I would test it first at your age before I commit to a full bottle. It's not expensive but you really have to like it. To me, like I said, smells like pine tree forest on a rainy day. People compare it to the smell of dead and decay, I can totally see the analogy. It's dark and deep. If your style duels on the heavy metal, gothic side it will fit you like a glove at your age... If not try Dsquared2 Green Wood... It's a more tamed main stream and mass appealing version of Encre Noire
This fragrance was so original when it came out and I just bought a new bottle and it’s still original now even though I’ve matured in my fragrance collecting. This is a masterpiece. Not for everybody yes but a definite masculine timeless scent
I always love the way you're reviewing a perfume, very neat, structured and informative. I do have this Encre Noir by Lalique by now, from my opinion it smells like a forest, green woodsy clean and fresh, not an attention seeker perfume. I don't know how cypress or vetiver smells like, but I love this perfume. An affordable niche perfume.

I haven’t even watched the video yet, and yes it’s absolutely still worth it. The price is so incredibly low for the quality it’s insane. Of the three the original is still my fave. If there was ever a blind buy perfume, this is it. To me, If Lestat in Interview With A Vampire wore a perfume, this would be it. It’s damp, dark and woody. Imagine a moist, earthy smelling, moonlit Louisiana forest.

I have all three Encre Noire. I love the Extreme the most. Yet, I wear Encre Noire Sport the most. Lalique fragrances have incredible quality for the price, great value.
Will never get tired of wearing and buying this scent. Timeless classic and Unisex. My wife actually uses it more than I do and she also considers it a compliment getter to which I totally 👍
I absolutely love this fragrance but it took a couple of wearings to understand its beauty. It's weird coz when I first tested it in stores, I thought it was amazing. I bought it online (from Fragrance Buy actually) and I was disappointed at first spray so much that I almost re-sold it. I gave it a couple more chances and boy, it grew on me fast. It's such a dark, brooding scent, that it reminds me of walking through a pine forest in a thunderstorm. No other fragrance I own has taken me on an imaginary journey. That alone makes this fragrance worth it. Of course, this is challenging to wear and probably will not get you compliments. This is a fragrance you wear because you love it. I tried Sport and HATED it. It lacked the depth of the original and the drydown which came 10 minutes after spraying smelled like a pencil.
@@ChrisAmax my answer would be, if you like the scent, wear it. I just don't think guys your age or even girls would like the scent because it's a little mature and not your typical fresh scent. It's a bit dark, and girls in their 20s typically like fresher scents on a guy.
I have all 3 OG, sport, L'Extreme... I started out with the original but I'll be honest I think the L'Extreme is my favorite. The incense in the dry down really makes it for me. The resinous character it has. But all three of them are good
I like and wear all of them somewhat regularly. The one that I have worn the most as of now is the sport. I live in the south where the summers are long and the Encre Noire Sport is my favorite fragrance to wear on warm and rainy days. The second most worn is the Extreme variant and on account of that smelling somewhat didactic to me I like to wear it when I go to the lab on a chilly day. The original Encre Noire is my least worn because it's the one that I got last but I do look forward to wearing it. My wife likes vanilla heavy fragrances though so I am going to wear more of those before she heads back to NY.
I 100% agree with you Steven! Encre Noire is TIMELESS and I love it! It's also great for layering too! Give it a couple of sprays with Dunhill Icon and you'll see what I mean! Great review my friend!

finaly!!! I been waiting for this video for almost two years lol this is a VERY unique fragrance, the performance is exceptional and the only downside of it is that some people do hate the smell so I will never wear it on a hot day nor at work, I usually wear it on colder nights only one or two spray MAX and it usually lasts about 6-8 on my skin and I personally love this fragrance and always have one in my collection. it definitely worth it.
This fragrance is so" unique" and so well done, as you said Steve this fragrance is was ahead of is time ..it deserves a Niche status :), is so incredebly cheap but at same time have such high quality components/materias, the Vetiver's used are one of the most beautyfulls i ever smell. I believe if a niche companie release something in this genere it ill cost so much muuuuch more.
@@ChrisAmax It is definetily a more grown man's scent mostly and a pretty formal one at that, but I can see it work on a younger guy in the emo or goth scene (or whatever it is called nowadays). In any other case I'd pick some people pleaser blue fragrance like Missoni Wave if you are on a similar budget or Versace Dylan Blue/Pour Homme if you have slightly more to spend.
I just got it yesterday, wild how earthy it is. Dark inky scent. I have a scent called Odin 08 Seylon. Its close, very similar, but smoother, where Encre Noire is daring and sharp. Price difference is Odin 08 is like $130 and like you said Encre Noire is like $20. I sprayed both one on each arm. Well over 12 hrs later i can still smell both on the skin. But Encre is a bittersweet more still lingering. Amazing performance over. Pricy but lovely cologne. Odin has been a fav for years now. Worth checking out. 👍🏻
I love Encre Noire. I just wish it was a bit easier to wear. It's quite a challenging fragrance and it's very polarizing. I don't typically wear Encre Noire in public because it can be really overwhelming for somebody who isn't into fragrances. My girlfriend hates it, for example.
My bottle gave me over 14 hours. I got a compliment after working a 12 hour night shift at a manufacturing plant. The lady wasn't that close to me at all. I'm not crazy about the smell but I've gotten nice compliments.....4 sprays by the way

First time i Bought this in the winter of 2020 after using Zara 9.0 before. I wanted something different from what everybody else had in our student accommodation and amongst all students. It had a different dark smell, and I liked it was unique. I was still asking my girlfriend out now my fiance, and she liked it. Bought it last winter agains and used it and got some compliments. So I sprayed it on my jacket about a month ago and I had never smelt it like that before. This juice is amazing, no wonder why all the compliments. brought me straight to thi review
I absolutely adore Encre Noir. In fact, it was thanks to this channel I discovered it at the time. It even became my signature scent. People asked me what my fragrance was because it was quite distinctive (although I must say reactions were either every positive or negative). Later I tried the flanker: Encre Noire à l'Extrème which I consider more subtle. So today I would encourage people to buy Encre Noire à l'Extrème, however, it's surely not a 'blind buy': you'll either fall immediately in love with Encre Noire (if you like strong Vetiver fragrances) or you can find it offensive because it is so unique. How does it smell like? Well, I always think of fresh pencil shavings but in a good way and definitely a very masculine fragrance.

But on the other hand, if you want to wear something that smells great, dark, and mysterious for a very affordable price (in a very classy-looking bottle), this is it. I discovered Encre Noire also watching RUclips videos, I sampled it in a local perfume store and immediately fell in love with it. The best way to describe the scent is like fresh pencil shavings, it has something dark and mysterious (so if that's your thing, surely go for it). It surely sets you apart from the crowd but in a good way and it smells classy.
Gem of a fragrance. Definitely worth buying. I have the OG and Sport versions. Sport has same DNA but lighter and an easier wear. I get 7-8 hours longevity from either. Definitely a unique Vetiver scent. I will always have bottle in the collection 👍👍

I have extreme, think old wooden floors, solid wood bookshelves filled with the finest of old books, men in fine suits drinking gin while smoking on pipes by the fireplace. Or, an old haunted house. Choice is yours. I bought it based on people's negatives. Because that was what i wanted, the smell of an old Victorian haunted house that reminded me of movies I grew up on
It's worth in 2023 👍 When ever my receptors get overloaded of heavy edp or extraits I go for EDT formulations. They work wonderful coz there's no nose blind. Enjoyed Encre today! It leaves oily mark on skin 👀
if there is something that could be called 'timeless scent', then it's exactly Encre Noir that falls into this category (like some others from Lalique); that's opposite of many much more expensive 'high-level' designer fragrances, which follow certain trends which are "in"/popular in specific point in time, but are/will be "out" in some other period...(f.i. current trends are i guess ambroxan, sweet, ...,which will be less desirable in some point in future when trends change); encre noir is totaly above this time-trend-conditionality...

Had it, hated it, sold it. I cannot imagine where one would wear this. I thought its completely unwearable. I understand an art behind it, but really its not the one i could wear. Much prefer Sport for warmer seasons and A L'extreme for colder seasons. Just do not blind buy the original one!
From an artistic standpoint, yes Enre Noire is worth owning, however for many many ppl this is not going to be a wearable scent (the only fragrance I've owned so far to get negative feedback from others.)
Ohh... Never had this problem. But of course a french formulation will always react differently on each individual which is why we like them, right? But it does mean they don't work on everyone.
Encre Noir is great for guys who like to mix a few vintage pieces of clothing with newer styles....definitely not for the sports bar scene.....I have vintage ties, scarves, jackets, etc.....and I get compliments.....but it is just fun to wear and go to an art gallery, concert, museum, botanical garden or a library and let your mind soar...
Encre Noire is what I imagined Tom Ford Noir would smell like, but even darker. There are traces of similarities to having this wet dark rainforest scent. But in terms of being optimized for masculinity, Encre is the clear winner. There’s way too many florals teeming in the top and mids with TF Noir. Great scent, but it leans heavily unisex and should have been categorized as that.
It is dark vetiver with a hint of bourbon. It is in my car’s console and wore just recently.Gentlemanly refined line without funk and powder. You can easily overspray though. My favorite Lalique is Lalique by Lalique men(Lion).

The Sport version is the most wearable of all 3. It has bergamot, lavender, and nutmeg. The lavender plays in the background for the whole life of the perfume. It's beautiful. The original encre noire can also be worn all year round IMO.
I prefer the A La Extreme version & am glad you reiterated the relevance of this line; would you happen to have Ombre Noire Lalique as I wish that one would be well-revitalized in availability & appeal, meanwhile, I'm looking into the perfumier Karine Dubreuil's L'Occitanes.
Thanks for another cool video Steven! I sold my bottle that I bought for 25 euros. The worth of something is always in the eye of the beholder. To me it smelled kind of harsh and I think because of the big amounts of iso e super I got OF really quick from this one, even though I never spray near my nose. I did not enjoy this scent, and especially with my niche collection growing larger, I find it harder to enjoy wearing scents like this. But I think if you look at ti from an objective standpoint, you can't deny the price/quality is amazing when you buy at the discounter.
I would really appreciate if you could do a video on Dior Sausage and tell me if it has been reformulated? As far as I've read online people say that it was reformulated somewhere around the end of 2017 or start or 2018. It smells the same but lacks the performance
One of the first ones in my humble collection :) Got the two flankers shortly afterwards, but my favorite is by far the original. Not only smells great and unique with its inkiness, in cost per ml it's of the absolute best values in the fragrance world.
I own the sport version and i love it, I never smelled the OG and I'm afraid of purchasing it because it has so many love/hate reviews, even one below "i don't wear thia among other humas" that's just spooky. I have the Encre Noire SPORT and it's really not for me. I just don't enjoy it at all. At least the bottle is cool looking. I love how snug the cap snaps into place. This stuff smells so good for the first two hours - woody, mossy, smoky leather, then it smells like nothing but grapefruit. I wish that initial smell lasted the whole day. Does the extreme version smell like this one all day?
I started to own it and wear it as late as this year and I do enjoy it; I even bought three 3.3 oz. bottles of it this year. I didn't know that it was reformulated though. I spray a lot of it on a sweater, e.g., at around noon and I'll still smell it, at least somewhat, on that sweater the next day. It's become one of the main fragrances that I use.
After the reformulation Encre Noir now smells like pine cleaner, it used to smell like fusty fennel. Performance is actually longer with the current formulation.
I had have an older sample and it was completely different smell, deeper and darker...new one are as you said! i am little bit of disappointed ...when was it reformulated?

I just bought a bottle online. I was a huge fan of Ralph Lauren Polo green before the unfortunate reformulation so I'm hoping it smells like everyone has described it online. If it does it should fill the void left when another once great fragrance bit the dust due to reformulation. *edit: received the bottle and tried it. On my skin it turns into a fragrance very similar to Dylan Blue. I don't like it at all. I guess I'll stick with Cartier Declaration even though the reformulation has taken away some of its punch and longevity. For years it was a beast but now it disappears very quickly. I don't know what they did to it but in dogs it's called castration.
why wouldn't it worth it? i don't get this video i mean fragrances are a personal taste and just because modern fragrances may smell similar that doesn't mean a fragrance is not relevant, if that's the case hundreds of fragrances would not be worth it because there are hundreds who are similar or inspired by who have come out recently. Encre Noir is Niche quality for dirt cheap,for under 40 dollars you get a beautiful dark boozy juice that is misterious ad so good. Many fragrances who are hundreds of dollars more expensive don't hold a candle on Encre Noir. A Masterpiece in my opinion 🔥
I got the 2020 Encre Noire today after I watched a lot of youtube videos about it and all said it's must have. I know it's not a mass appealing frag but for me it smells bad after few minutes. there was no upper notes at all I couldn't smell it till it settled on me. My friend hugged me and didn't even notice it at all. It smelled fecal just covered in a nice smell but not in a good way. I am trying to love it but I can't. So maybe they changed the formula

Price difference is Odin 08 is like $130 and like you said Encre Noire is like $20. I sprayed both one on each arm. Well over 12 hrs later i can still smell both on the skin. But Encre is a bittersweet more still lingering. Amazing performance over. Pricy but lovely cologne. Odin has been a fav for years now. Worth checking out. 👍🏻

I love Encre Noire. I just wish it was a bit easier to wear. It's quite a challenging fragrance and it's very polarizing. I don't typically wear Encre Noire in public because it can be really overwhelming for somebody who isn't into fragrances. My girlfriend hates it, for example.

My bottle gave me over 14 hours. I got a compliment after working a 12 hour night shift at a manufacturing plant. The lady wasn't that close to me at all. I'm not crazy about the smell but I've gotten nice compliments.....4 sprays by the way

Of course it is. It's one of the most unique compositions on the market. I have not smelled anything like it so far. Encre Noire is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, it's just so austere and different.
First time i Bought this in the winter of 2020 after using Zara 9.0 before. I wanted something different from what everybody else had in our student accommodation and amongst all students. It had a different dark smell, and I liked it was unique. I was still asking my girlfriend out now my fiance, and she liked it. Bought it last winter agains and used it and got some compliments. So I sprayed it on my jacket about a month ago and I had never smelt it like that before. This juice is amazing, no wonder why all the compliments. brought me straight to thi review

I absolutely adore Encre Noir. In fact, it was thanks to this channel I discovered it at the time. It even became my signature scent. People asked me what my fragrance was because it was quite distinctive (although I must say reactions were either every positive or negative). Later I tried the flanker: Encre Noire à l'Extrème which I consider more subtle. So today I would encourage people to buy Encre Noire à l'Extrème, however, it's surely not a 'blind buy': you'll either fall immediately in love with Encre Noire (if you like strong Vetiver fragrances) or you can find it offensive because it is so unique.
How does it smell like? Well, I always think of fresh pencil shavings but in a good way and definitely a very masculine fragrance.
It smelled like orange leaves to me, tangerine or whatever leaves or trees in this category, I adore it as well due to that fact alone👌🏻

@@ChrisAmax Well, this is not the typical scent a 17-year-old would wear, not that Encre Noir is an 'old man scent' but typically your age people would go for more popular scents like Acqua Di Gio or Versace... But on the other hand, if you want to wear something that smells great, dark, and mysterious for a very affordable price (in a very classy-looking bottle), this is it. I discovered Encre Noire also watching RUclips videos, I sampled it in a local perfume store and immediately fell in love with it. The best way to describe the scent is like fresh pencil shavings, it has something dark and mysterious (so if that's your thing, surely go for it). It surely sets you apart from the crowd but in a good way and it smells classy.
Just pulled a blind buy, since it seems like something that is completly diferent to everything I own. Damn, I‘m excited.

Gem of a fragrance. Definitely worth buying. I have the OG and Sport versions. Sport has same DNA but lighter and an easier wear. I get 7-8 hours longevity from either. Definitely a unique Vetiver scent. I will always have bottle in the collection 👍👍

It's worth in 2023 👍 When ever my receptors get overloaded of heavy edp or extraits I go for EDT formulations.

if there is something that could be called 'timeless scent', then it's exactly Encre Noir that falls into this category (like some others from Lalique); that's opposite of many much more expensive 'high-level' designer fragrances, which follow certain trends which are "in"/popular in specific point in time, but are/will be "out" in some other period...(f.i. current trends are i guess ambroxan, sweet, ...,which will be less desirable in some point in future when trends change); encre noir is totaly above this time-trend-conditionality...

Had it, hated it, sold it. I cannot imagine where one would wear this. I thought its completely unwearable. I understand an art behind it, but really its not the one i could wear. Much prefer Sport for warmer seasons and A L'extreme for colder seasons. Just do not blind buy the original one!
From an artistic standpoint, yes Enre Noire is worth owning, however for many many ppl this is not going to be a wearable scent (the only fragrance I've owned so far to get negative feedback from others.)

Ohh... Never had this problem. But of course a french formulation will always react differently on each individual which is why we like them, right? But it does mean they don't work on everyone.
Encre Noir is great for guys who like to mix a few vintage pieces of clothing with newer styles....definitely not for the sports bar scene.....I have vintage ties, scarves, jackets, etc.....and I get compliments.....but it is just fun to wear and go to an art gallery, concert, museum, botanical garden or a library and let your mind soar...

Encre Noire is what I imagined Tom Ford Noir would smell like, but even darker. There are traces of similarities to having this wet dark rainforest scent. But in terms of being optimized for masculinity, Encre is the clear winner. There’s way too many florals teeming in the top and mids with TF Noir. Great scent, but it leans heavily unisex and should have been categorized as that.

It is dark vetiver with a hint of bourbon. It is in my car’s console and wore just recently.Gentlemanly refined line without funk and powder. You can easily overspray though. My favorite Lalique is Lalique by Lalique men(Lion).

The Sport version is the most wearable of all 3. It has bergamot, lavender, and nutmeg. The lavender plays in the background for the whole life of the perfume. It's beautiful. The original encre noire can also be worn all year round IMO.

Thanks for another cool video Steven! I sold my bottle that I bought for 25 euros. The worth of something is always in the eye of the beholder. To me it smelled kind of harsh and I think because of the big amounts of iso e super I got OF really quick from this one, even though I never spray near my nose. I did not enjoy this scent, and especially with my niche collection growing larger, I find it harder to enjoy wearing scents like this. But I think if you look at ti from an objective standpoint, you can't deny the price/quality is amazing when you buy at the discounter.

I have the Encre Noire SPORT and it's really not for me. I just don't enjoy it at all. At least the bottle is cool looking. I love how snug the cap snaps into place.

This stuff smells so good for the first two hours - woody, mossy, smoky leather, then it smells like nothing but grapefruit. I wish that initial smell lasted the whole day. Does the extreme version smell like this one all day?

I started to own it and wear it as late as this year and I do enjoy it; I even bought three 3.3 oz. bottles of it this year. I didn't know that it was reformulated though. I spray a lot of it on a sweater, e.g., at around noon and I'll still smell it, at least somewhat, on that sweater the next day. It's become one of the main fragrances that I use.

After the reformulation Encre Noir now smells like pine cleaner, it used to smell like fusty fennel. Performance is actually longer with the current formulation.

Hey Steven question for ya. Is DHI 2020 weaker in longevity than say a 2018 patch.
You can compare encre noir also with Montale red vetiver. On my skin at least is the same, except Montale projects and lasts much longer.
I just bought a bottle online. I was a huge fan of Ralph Lauren Polo green before the unfortunate reformulation so I'm hoping it smells like everyone has described it online. If it does it should fill the void left when another once great fragrance bit the dust due to reformulation. *edit: received the bottle and tried it. On my skin it turns into a fragrance very similar to Dylan Blue. I don't like it at all. I guess I'll stick with Cartier Declaration even though the reformulation has taken away some of its punch and longevity. For years it was a beast but now it disappears very quickly. I don't know what they did to it but in dogs it's called castration.

why wouldn't it worth it? i don't get this video i mean fragrances are a personal taste and just because modern fragrances may smell similar that doesn't mean a fragrance is not relevant, if that's the case hundreds of fragrances would not be worth it because there are hundreds who are similar or inspired by who have come out recently. Encre Noir is Niche quality for dirt cheap,for under 40 dollars you get a beautiful dark boozy juice that is misterious ad so good. Many fragrances who are hundreds of dollars more expensive don't hold a candle on Encre Noir. A Masterpiece in my opinion 🔥

I got the 2020 Encre Noire today after I watched a lot of youtube videos about it and all said it's must have. I know it's not a mass appealing frag but for me it smells bad after few minutes. there was no upper notes at all I couldn't smell it till it settled on me. My friend hugged me and didn't even notice it at all. It smelled fecal just covered in a nice smell but not in a good way. I am trying to love it but I can't. So maybe they changed the formula
