As a musician, I can vouch for them for sure. Dude its hard to play live when its like 1000 degrees and there's sweat pouring in your eyes and you desperately need a drink of water and you're physically exhausted, but you have to keep powering through giving 110% each and every song. They did a great job on this performance in my opinion!

How so?
One of the easier ones, I've sang along to. Try Levitate, or Hear Me Now. You'll get a better understanding of hard to perform.
the studio version requires vocal strength to keep the note at such a heavy tone without your voice cracking i can do it but it takes alot of strength and is hard on the vocal chords so him doing this live will never be as hard as the studio version but it still takes an immense amount of effort

i know concert notes are harder but im saying that the studio version has a heavier vocal requirement as its been edited buy by no means is the concert version something to scoff at he did amazing trying to keep it close to the studio version but the strain is quite insane
Guys come on, he is doing his best! i mean yes i agree it´s not as good live.. but it´s a really hard song to perform live and he´s not doing too bad. I like it.

ikantspelgud1 I think with a bit more of professional vocal training he might be able to extend his stamina, since his live performance is actually okay; but considering that should the band be heavily touring, it will be hard for him to maintain his voice.
Also I think they should employ someone to redesign the suit, it's a cool idea for live performing but it doesn't look very comfortable for on-stage performance :D

The problem Dustin has, with Starset, is the immense amount of technology involved, compounded with the extreme vocal requirements...It's an incredibly difficult, to be a mixer, and a singer, at the same time.
At least he cares, look at his sweat, his face is beat red veins Bulging.. This man is passionate about his music and gives the crowd everything he has. And theymake amazing music who the hell cares if the studio version is better if these humans didn't come up with this you wouldn't have the studio version to listen to so appreciate what the people give up to satisfy you're ears.

The issue is that if he continues to strain his voice he will lose performance over time. It's the same reason why most screaming singers tone down their music over time. The thing is if you don't use the proper technique it can go from good to worse in a matter of a year or two, instead of someone like A7X or LP that took around 5 years.

You guys do realize he probably had a lot of practice before doing any sort of music retaining to vocals, right? He doesn't just go up on stage with no experience whatsoever. I don't remember who said he needs to work on his screaming a bit, but you are completely wrong. That is perfect and atones to HIS song perfectly. Sorry that the song wasn't the exact same as the original. Gosh you guys have no idea.

After watching a few of their live videos, I dare say that anyone complaining about the dude's singing knows nothing about live sound, the effort it takes to perform while singing, sound production or vocals in general. He nailed it the whole way through, but no live performance will ever sound exactly like a studio cut.

Agree that he shouldn't be expected to sound incredible, however there are some artists (Trevor from Thousand Foot Krutch comes to mind) who sound almost identical live.
Read your comment before the chorus kicked in, and I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I agree he's decent, but he's pitchy as HELL, usually flat by just a little bit. And yeah everyone knows it takes effort to sing live--every band has people that run to the defense of the singer whenever they put on a lackluster, or outright bad, performance--but it's literally their job to be able to sing their own damn songs, and, at least in this video, he can't do that as well as he should be able to. Haven't checked other performances, yet.

I know of a few songs of downplay, but stage fright could always be a thing, or he was just tired from the long days singing

I don’t care how much people complain about Dustin’s voice. It’s hard for him to do the notes and verses, and how much breathing he has to do. Most of the song is hard, and he put a lot of energy into singing it.

You know something, taking into account the difficulty of this song (let's be honest it isn't normal singing- R&B, Pop etc) this group puts massive amounts of effort into this(including having to alter the voice modulator) and I think they have done a great job!

Just saw them on 02/28/18. They've grown so much, they're AMAZING live. Yeah, Dustin's vocals are blown to hell by the end of the show, but you won't care. The audience has him covered, and the show they put on is immense. They do this thing with the drummer...ah, I don't want to spoil it. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it.

This band is amazing. I've seen them live and they go all out and leave everything on the stage. One of the best live bands, only few are actually better live than studio recorded and this is one of them!!!!

It's amazing what they did on the album, but I knew it'd be difficult to translate when playing live. They really need 3 guys singing the harmonies, and adding a person to only run effects would be a good idea as well.
I saw them live last night. That performance was drastically different from this one. I'm not sure what exactly the changed, but their performance last night was amazing.

Look you all got to realize this Starset is a new band this is the same shit with every band, my favorite band in the whole world is breaking Benjamin and breaking Benjamin was the exact same from the beginning just like Starset and guess what they rose to the top now I have seen Starset live and yea you can tell they were nervous, but they had guts rocking out for us and they were perfect on every standard I actually got to meet the lead singer and got to tell him they were amazing, lol shit yall say hes out of breath LOL!!!!!! Well they held there breath for 3:42 mins in this video and still rocked and if yall think that they are no good then I have no ideal why I saw them in concert or why they are on sxm 97.1 or on any radio station judge the ones that have not made it to the top not the ones that did make it to the top or else you would look really stupid...... Starset keep kicking ass like I know yall will and HATERS............. stop being little high schoolers. I’ve met Dustin twice and seen them perform twice, they are probably the best band I’ve ever seen live, they don’t sound as good when they are tiered like on this video. But he is very good at singing.
