Seeing Floki's face as he slowly realizes what Ragnar just said to him after everything that went down between them, the impossible feats they accomplished together, fighting alongside each other through everything, I couldn't hold back a tear or two. Those words meant everything to him. Powerful, beautiful scene and great acting. :*(

Ragnar and Floki had long history together. All this time, Floki did nothing but try to protect Ragnar. Even tho he killed Ragnars best friend, forgiveness was given in this scene alone. Vikings didn’t go around saying I love you I’m sure. This is ancient time where respect was earned on the battle field. So for Floki to hear, after all the shit they went through, I love you. Was probably very emotional. It was a Viking king asking you to watch over his family and that he loves you. That shit is moving and I’m higher than Donald Trumps orange color range.

@@Havik99 Contradicting beliefs, that's it. Among the characters, Floki is the most close-minded when it comes to beliefs. He believed that Athelstan was tainting Ragnar's mind. That's the best way on how to put it, a 'modern day Islamic extremist'. It was not him alone but the Christians too, the series was accurate in some ways that the Roman Catholic church was harsh to pagans and to some Catholics who committed mistakes that the Bible forbids them to do. That was the life before, killing people and sacrificing their life in the name of their god/s, because they thought that their god/s was right.

    • @hellacezkie
      @hellacezkie 5 лет назад +5

@@MrJimmydagreatIt's because he doesn't trust Athelstan because they have different beliefs and Athelstan was a foreigner to him that he doesn't want Ragnar, a long friend of his, to be influenced by a foreigner and someone who doesn't believe their gods. And the Norse mythology doesn't say about non-believers not going to Valhalla because they're non-believers. So long as you die a brave and heroic death, the gates of Valhalla will be opened to you, it's about impressing the gods. It doesn't have to do with Ragnar befriending Athelstan so Floki killed Athelstan so Ragnar could go to Valhalla, stop romanticizing things.

Chris FranzEmpire yeah but you could always see the love and Hate relationship they had .
Ragnar loved Floki but also hated him at times specially when he killed athelstan . but even then it was more that just hate or love ..
remember the only reason he punished Floki was because bjorn all ready arrested him ..so he had no choice
and the same goes for Floki he loves ragnar and was his right hand but when athelstan came in play he kind of turned into the jealous friend who is being overlooked ..

@@baileybopper8108 Absolutely right. 'You betrayed my trust and my love for you'. Proceeds to keep trying to get Floki to admit it wasn't just out of love for the Gods that he killed Athelstan, proceeds to spare Floki from execution, proceeds to save his life, proceeds to openly trust him again in returning to Paris by carrying the boats up the mountains when everyone else is arguing against Ragnar, proceeds to offer him to join him in Wessex like he did his sons and asks he watch over his family. The cards were absolutely on the table as to how much Ragnar always loved Floki. I think it's telling how there are so many flashbacks of Floki in particular (among Lagertha, Ivar, Athelstan, Rollo etc.) when Ragnar dreams of the past before his death.

@@YrahSGLH what did he do to floki exactly other than not giving him that much attention? All he did was show Athelstan more attention than floki that was it. Ragnar has every right to do so. The reason why ragnar punished floki for killing athelstan was because he wouldnt admit it was because of jealousy he did it, and not because of the gods.

      1) Ragnar didn't give Floki enough credit, for all he has done for Ragnar. First of, Floki is the reason, Ragnar could sail west in the first place. And he's the reason, Ragnar became king. Instead of betraying Ragnar to King Horik, Floki was secretly helping Ragnar by playing his double game and overcome King Horik. The only thing, Ragnar did in that matter, was killing King Horik.
      2) Ragnar was seriously so cruel and insensitive towards Floki, when Torstein died. Floki have just lost one of his best friends, in a war between Christians. And all what Ragnar did, was being bloody cruel. And not only towards Floki, bit towards everybody else after the battle, too.
      3) No matter what big or small matter they have been in, Floki have always been loyal to Ragnar! No matter what! However you can't say the same about Ragnar.

@@YrahSGLH 1) Not enough credit? he told him more than once that he build the boats so they could go to England. Ofcourse Ragnar gets the most credit, it was his fucking idea to begin with, and he convinced all of them to go. Plus he was earl and later king, so ofcourse he will get most of the credit for it. Don´t you think it was planned by both of them if not more of the vikings to betray king Horik? Lagertha and some other warriors went and killed King Horiks wife, before King Horik even noticed he was betrayed.*
      2) I do not remember that clearly what happend after Torsteins death so you might be right about that not sure.
      3) How has he not always been loyal to Floki? The only time he wasn´t, was when he killed His best friend in the whole world that he could connect with diffrently than all his other friends(he was almost obsessed with athelstein). But you seriously think you can kill a kings best friend for no reason other than him being christian? And even then Ragnar was prepared to forgive, if he jsut admitted he did it because of jealousy and not because of the gods.

This was the last time for floki to see ragnar, this is how the show ended this amazing relationship between these two, by ragnar expressing his love to floki, something floki always wanted to hear from him.
Man.. this show is a masterpiece!

Given what we learn of Ragnar's beliefs later, his "I don't know" may refer to his doubts of Valhalla's existence.

what makes this scene even sadder is the underlying realization it looks like Ragnar's come to. It doesn't matter to him if he deserves to go to Valhalla or not because he's realized that it and the gods don't really exist. Floki is sad to see him go but happy that he thinks they'll be reunited one day in Valhalla despite whatever happens. Meanwhile, Ragnar knows this is his last goodbye to his friend since there is no afterlife to see him in. Which is also why he finally told him he loved him, he knew it was his last chance. rip

Such a powerful moment. Am just now catching up on this series and this is my favourite moment so far. You can tell from the reaction on Flokis face that he probably never expected to hear those words from Ragnar and it meant the world to him.
