I read somewhere that if you mix the dry eggshell powder and vinegar & let it rest for a few days and dilute it with water and spray it on to young seedlings, then the seedlings grows through to maturity with this mixture protecting the plant from all kinds of pests. I used to live in the North Island of N.Z. some years ago, and you could grow just about anything. I moved to Coastal Oregon, USA. where the growing season is very short on the coast. Now back in the South Island of N.Z. it seems like the growing season is different again. Oh well that's life.
if the "eggs" are round and white/transparent; then they probably are slug eggs. I would also remove your ground cover and check if there are no eggs in the ground because slugs dig in the ground to lay eggs! And they love to hide under the ground cover. I always found them under there. A good slug trap is beer :-)
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! You are an inspiration. I too am in the daunting process of career change to permaculture mini enterprise, an your humble feeds are a honest, humble approach in to the markets. love it! also local so ill see you at the next market and say hi. 😊
I've tried those F1 mini red cabbage two seasons in a row and they were very disappointing. I switched to Ranfurly mini's and have had much more success.
I'm starting my own Market garden down in ashburton this summer on 1.5 acres, I'm going to be trialing companion planting and I'm very keen to see if this actually stops pests like aphids and white butterfly 😄
Just googled and a plant that slugs don't like apparently is nasturtium they wer the only plant that was a low to the ground plant I could see on the list, another thing they don't like is wool so if you can get your hands on some wool u could put a boarder around the plants you want protection for 😊
@@georgiadegroen thankyou I really hope it works out 2 😄 growing flowers to but I've already had one greenhouse blow away and the one I've just built we got a real cold snap down here and most of the little seedlings I put in it nearly died 😅.
Even if it's not suitable to your standards, it would be pity thought if you throw the cabbages away. I hope you consider fermenting, consuming them for your personal needs or simply giving away, but not throwing.
One of the best things I love about Beetroot is that the tops are and good as the bottoms. Roasted are so yummy too.
