It's just the fast time progression, in addition to the series' focus on the journey TO the mother not WITH her, that makes us falsely feel that he settled for Tracy as a consolation prize. She is the best, truest and strongest love of his life, and he knows that. Nothing beats the Time Travellers episode in portraying that. It's Ted, still heartbroken after his wife passes, wanting his past-self to have met her earlier, to get these extra 45 days with her. We also have some amazing romantic and often poignant moments in S9 with her, like when Tracy says sarcastically: "What kind of mother would miss her daughter's wedding?", Ted's look was too painful. And finally, we have also the fact that he waited 6 years before moving on.

I think they're different types of loves. I never thought Ted settled for Tracy once he accepted he couldn't have robin, but he fell in love with robin the minute he saw her, and during the series the most important detail is that he could give up any other girl if Robin gave him a chance. That's where Tracy was different, on the deleted scene where Ted and Robin were in a cafeteria and they were talking u can see he's happy and satisfied with his life with Tracy, and he doesn't think anymore about what could've happened if Robin said yes. But one she wasn't there, the immediate person that came to his mind was robin, that's why during the whole series he mentions robin constantly and Tracy just a few times when the story is supposed to be about how he met Tracy
That's exactly the point. We got to see her way too few. I don't think there's not a single HIMYM fan who didn't absolutely love Tracy. She was sweet, beautiful, funny, but we got to see her much less than other characters such as Stella, Zoey or Victoria. The character was perfect, the story was also good, but the timing and the way the episodes were set up is what made the final season a disappointment to many fans.
tracy was perfect for ted. From all the bruises and heartbreaks he went through, he ended up with a girl like tracy was just perfect! A girl who understood him emotionally! ted and tracy love! ❤

I watched this show in 2016, first time and since then I have been in love with it..I consider myself to be like Ted..With my love for philosophy, my habit to correct people..The way each girl I like keeps me giving hope that she might be 'the one', I too dream of being head over heels in love with someone..I want too want to be a professor..Just like Ted, Just like Ted, my best friends are also in relationships but I am not, it gives me such sad feels sometimes..I start feeling that maybe it's never gonna happen for me..But this show is a massive source of hope.. Whenever I feel alone I watch the episode with Ted's 45 days speech and it gives me hope again.. Whenever I feel like I can't let go of someone..I see the episode where Ted says 'For the first time in years, there was no part of me clinging to the dream of being with Robin'.. Whenever I am afraid to do something risky I watch the finale of season 4..where all of them take 'the leap'..I too have the habit of looking at the bigger picture and I can ramble on about love, just like Ted..It's amazing how this show has taught me so much.. People around me have never really understood why I love this show so much and they probably never will..So I thought I will open up in the comments section here...Because the fans of this show exactly know how I feel...Last but not the least please wish me luck in my journey to find my farhampton and the yellow umbrella girl... After thinking about both endings, I honestly think Tracy ended happily with her one true love (the one who gave her the ukele) while Ted finally got another shot at Robin's relationship. To me, the original ending is better in terms of reality but the alternate is better in terms of drama romance sense.

Well said. I believe the story of HIMYM was about how you can have more than one love of your life, but you never forget your first one. The fact that both Tracy and Ted were able to reunite with the primary loves of their lives is just beautiful. This isn't to take anything away from Ted and Tracy, but Tracy wasn't even meant to have as big a role as she eventually did.
The ending would have been much better if Barney and Robin never even got together and Robin found someone else because even though Ted wanted to be with Robin he always wanted for her to be happy. Barney would have the kid and fall in love with her and Ted would finally find Tracy after all of the heartbreak and denial caused be Robin. Ted could finally get over her and they could all be truly happy

As a child from seperated parents, I'd come across this show and thought maybe Ted and this nine year long mistery Wife of his, would portray the less common way a marriage with children can go. There was so much hype about it, through out the entire series. Ted had Tracy on a pedestal. And that was heart warming to experience. In spite of the fact that it was the route they'd deterred it from the get-go; it was an incredibly unfair event for probably quite a load of fans. As well as Tracy. They'd built this wonderful, wonderful woman of Ted's dreams- only to rob him of it? And decide instead to end it, several years later with the very same couple it'd begun? I love Robin. I love Ted. But they weren't each other's soulmate. I wish they kept to that narrative, because it's realistic. How often does a person end up with someone who'd they did date, but had fallen out of love, and chose to be friends-only to circle to the beginning again? That isn't how the world goes. So it would of been a tremendous benefit for the many who have gone through the same, or similar. This is one of the best sitcom shows I've watched, and I'm grateful for it. I just wish they'd gave it a better ending which Ted (and Tracy) deserved. Wonderful edit. This song was almost made for them.
That ending was not real it was a prank Tracy and ted are happy and living life with their kids if you tell me different I will not listen to you because that’s the ending I made up in my head.
They should of made the last season all 40 minute episodes and got done with Barney and robins wedding in 4 episodes. Then the rest of the season is just Ted and Tracy. If they still wanted to kill her off I would be fine with it. But the fact that we spent a whole season on Barney and robins wedding is so fucking stupid

In spite of the fact that it was the route they'd deterred it from the get-go; it was an incredibly unfair event for probably quite a load of fans. As well as Tracy. They'd built this wonderful, wonderful woman of Ted's dreams- only to rob him of it? And decide instead to end it, several years later with the very same couple it'd begun? I love Robin. I love Ted. But they weren't each other's soulmate. I wish they kept to that narrative, because it's realistic. How often does a person end up with someone who'd they did date, but had fallen out of love, and chose to be friends-only to circle to the beginning again? That isn't how the world goes. So it would of been a tremendous benefit for the many who have gone through the same, or similar. This is one of the best sitcom shows I've watched, and I'm grateful for it. I just wish they'd gave it a better ending which Ted (and Tracy) deserved. Wonderful edit. This song was almost made for them.

That ending was not real it was a prank Tracy and ted are happy and living life with their kids if you tell me different I will not listen to you because that’s the ending I made up in my head.
They should of made the last season all 40 minute episodes and got done with Barney and robins wedding in 4 episodes. Then the rest of the season is just Ted and Tracy. If they still wanted to kill her off I would be fine with it. But the fact that we spent a whole season on Barney and robins wedding is so fucking stupid
i never ship Ted and Robin, especially they put the twist `thats how i met your aunt robin`
