I really hope your lack of viewership doesn't make you want to stop doing this. These are some of the best game reviews on youtube. I have no doubt your channel will continue to grow.
I find it disappointing and sometimes frustrating to not get noticed much, but the channel has been growing quite well in recent months and I'm happy about that. In any case, I won't stop making videos anytime soon because I am passionate it. I just fear it's going to be hard to devote a lot of time to RUclips in the years to come if I make no dime off of it. But I appreciate the positive and encouraging comment! It really does help when people tell me this type of stuff.
There is quite a bit of competition these days for the intelligent games analysis videos, as niche as it already is, the best way for you to get noticed (aside from someone finding this by searching for the game) is if someone gives you the shout-out. That's how I found you. I don't remember who gave the shout-out though, so sorry.
It's obvious you put a ton of work into each video, from editing to scripting to capturing the footage in the first place, and you don't see this level of commentary afforded to game design on most other channels. If the teams behind these types of games were scrutinizing their choices as well as you do here, we'd be looking at completely different releases. In addition, it's nice to see someone so gameplay-focused, doing away with story critique when it's truly superfluous to the core game. Keep at it! Even if you wind up not having time for the RUclips space, consider these video resumes both for your editing skills and your capable criticism! Video-game critique and coverage is a real job.
If you were wondering what differences are in Xtreme mode: Nightmare viruses are far more common, shoot six projectiles instead of four at a much faster rate, are much more durable, and will teleport to your location if you leave them alone for too long. The projectiles shot from the Junkroid enemies can no longer be destroyed The Totem Gate enemies shoot much faster (At the same rate as after you destroy the middle portion on normal mode) and the middle portion goes after you immediately Enemies are littered *EVERYWHERE* You take much more damage. ...And more! Fantastic!
I know Im 3 years late but extreme mode also make enemy doesn't drop health. Maybe the dev made it that way to make sure the player doesn't just face tank everything and heal considering there's A LOT of enemy but my god my entire playthrough was just hoping I reach the checkpoint or health location in time
I owned x4 x5 and x6 as a kid and I finished x6 when I was 10. X6 was my favourite, so coming back to mega man after finding my old PlayStation, I was surprised people hated x6 so much. I guess its just one of these things, like empire being the best when revenge of the Sith was my favourite hands down.
I’m pretty sure people hated it because it was so difficult. It seems like any game that forces the player to actually earn anything is instantly hated, which explains the rise and success of mobile games that allow you to just buy the win instead.
I really feel X6 is the typical case of a dev team being so much used to the game it's making that they keep making it harder and harder, loosing sight of how difficult the game really is.
All of what you said PLUS the idea that they had been pressured by deadlines and massive budget cuts from Capcom. I am sure this was a 75% finished demo put together into a retail package.
J's Reviews be like, "X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, Zero 1, Zero 2, Zero 3, Zero 4, ZX and ZX Advent all have moments where they expect players to take leaps of faith! Only to get screwed over by whatever's in front of them. I hate that shit!" Me: I only played the SNES trilogy, so I don't have issues with the camera whatsoever. Sure X3 is a nudge harder, but still. It just requires a huge increase of the awareness of one's surroundings.
if you cut out the monumental levels of bullshit in x6 there's literally only 2-3 hours of actual game. they rushed this game so fucking hard that literally most of the game is padding
X6 is really fun and has its moments, but X7 is so bad, that I actually _kinda_ recomend it, it is something so awful that need to be play to be believed.
hmm, the x4 video was 40 minutes long, the x5 video was 50 minutes long, and this one is 60 minutes long........ dear god if you did a series with many more sequels ._.
If X5 and X6 got Maverick Hunter X-style remakes, I think they could have been some of the best action platformers out there. It's one thing I will always wish happened...
Yep. Though they’d need significant level design Changes. For 5 they need to fix mcwhallen’s stage, zero virus one, take out the frame drops in dark dizzy’s stage and more the skiver more forgiving. For 6 just redesign every level past the intro. Actually just make it a completely different game.
@@tahamohammad8842 Speaking of Dark Necrobat's stage being slow at times, I'm wondering if that was causing slowdown or if the game intended to use slow motion like what Sliider said. It's in the description of this video. ruclips.net/video/EAlPbHXkEsw/видео.html
@@CarloNassar considering it was patched out of the ps2 x collection like the frame drops in the SNES games I’m pretty sure the frame drops are hardware related and not intentional
Gotta admit it really makes you feel like a total masochist... BUT FUCK THAT SHIT BOYS! we finish this fucker in Xtreme mode, everyone else complaining about the normal mode are just a bunch of cry babies!
I played through the entire game on Xtreme and finished it in a few days. It was pretty easy... ...Because I was using Black Zero, had already played through the entire game over ten times in the past, and knew about a bunch of exploits to make Zero absolutely broken. The only part I got stuck on was the Gate stage crusher because I kept getting hit-stunned. HOWEVER, words cannot express how absolutely torturous trying to get to Zero was. I kept playing through Ground Scaravich’s stage to get to the nightmare area, and JEEZ, why are there so many nightmare viruses?!
So, I started X6 knowing thar Zero is dead, right? So, I'm playing as X whom I like, but not as much as Zero. 7 stages completed, but then... I fight fake Zero and unlock the real one. I'm happy as fuck, now I can play as Zero! I'm happy, I pick Zero and choose a stage... ...only to find out that my Zero is NOT leveled up at all. How do you level up? You pick up upgrades from reploids and on stages! Fucking... amazing! I'm angry as fuck and continue playing as X, only to get stuck on one of the Sigma stages right before some high spikes. How do I avoid them? By having Zero's double jump! Fuck the what! I can't do that as X! What am I supposed to do?! I'm mad, I pick Zero again and go there, do a double jump, complete the level... and then Nightmare Mother happened. I'm BAT-SHIT INSANE AND START THE WHOLE GAME FROM SCRATCH. I unlock Zero ASAP, level him up and complete the game. Never EVER will I touch X6 again. After that I played MMZ1-4 for the first time, and everything was fine. I'm in love with MMZ3 and happy. End of story. Don't play X6 kids. Don't...
i don't even I mean, it wasn't really that much out of the way. As long as you explored for yourself there was no need for internet. I'm just saying though, not trying to put you down or anything. It was more of an observartion.
"Hope you enjoyed Review"... was that a nod to the poor grammar we saw earlier in the video? I think I'm starting to see why X6 isn't on the PSN. I'm curious if you'll give X7 a try considering how infamous that one is and if X6 is better or worse. I haven't been able to play them but I can't help but be curious.
I think X6 isn't on PSN because of licensing issues with the music. And I will get to X7 in the future, but I have no desire to do so anytime soon. Mega Man'd out, haha.
cjszero01 technically X6 is available in PSN but.... Only Japanese version sadly imo I recommend to buy Megaman X Collection on PS2 is pretty cheap plus you can play all Megaman games in 1 disc.
Really you want to compare X6 TO X7? Both are completely different game styles since x6 is only 2d while x7 depending on the bosses and stages switch to 3d. So comparing both games won't work.
RUclips is bugged as hell at the moment. I am trying to add my thumbnail, annotations and ads but I can't. I put the damn video on Unlisted and it is still getting views somehow.
My first time playing the temple was with the darkness effect on and I thought that was just how the level was supposed to be. It was a total nightmare
This might be one of the best videos that I've seen on any MMX game. What really makes this analysis perfect is how fair it is to the game - X6 is so easy to hate that I often see people fail to acknowledge or even realize that it had several good ideas and even some good execution here and there. Approaching the game from a completely reasonable standpoint and giving praise where praise is due shows that you're not picking and choosing examples to fit your opinion, and it both justifies and highlights the thoroughly negative rants over aspects which are truly irredeemable. Like the Nightmare System... I think one of the most telling things about the Nightmare System and its failings is that it's so completely obtuse that I still didn't feel certain you were aware it existed until about a third of the way through the video - even though it was clear by that point that you'd analyzed this game from start to finish. I honestly like the concept behind it, but it's staggering how almost none of the ideas surrounding it are good. Oh, I'm confident that you've learned this by now, but Mon Bando's deal is simply that he's intelligent enough not to lower his guard if you're busy whaling on it. Stop firing for a brief moment and he'll attack. I can at least forgive that design choice on the grounds that it's refreshing to see a shielded enemy without suicidal behavior for once (and since it's all but impossible to convey that information through level design alone, I can't exactly fault them there.) Anyway, I have a feeling I'll be watching a lot of your videos in the near future. Your work is outstanding.
Thanks for great comment! I'm pretty sure this video of mine took me the longest to make, so I'm pretty happy to read comments like these and see it generally doing well. Hopefully you will enjoy my other videos, as well. :)
@@SycoticForeverNeverAF I think they knew what they did but like you said this game was made just to make cash AND it went on sale like 1 year after x5 or something like that, when you compare with x4 who was released in 1997 and x5 in 2000 it's understandable that it got so bad design between levels. I dont think the people behind the actual game had a bad intention to make it bad I think they were put under pressure to make it and release as fast as possible considering the popularity the megaman series was having at that time.
What is it with a lot of obnoxiously bad games having fantastic soundtrack? This game is my favorite Megaman X soundtrack, Alone in the Dark 08, Sonic 06, Final Fantasy XIII (subjectively), even the tune in Big Rigs is catchy.. (if it even plays) ..good music can't be the easiest part of any entertainment media to create, right?
X6's soundtrack is pretty fantastic. All of it. I think every track is a hit. Every track is fitting for every situation they're used in and highly memorable. Few video game soundtracks are so consistently high quality althroughout. Soundtracks in the Megaman series more often than not succeed for me but I think X6 is just above all those. One of my favorite game soundtracks. It's too bad that the game itself doesn't seem to match up in quality with it at all. That's a real shame.
I played this game with: -Ultimate armor -Easy mode -Rookie hunter mode -Stage order guides Even with all those combined. I still had a terrible time with it and I HATE this game
@@yotemaster6571 Personally I think X6 is worse, but that's just a matter of opinion. Both games are bad for different reasons. P.S. the Mega Man DOS games and tiger games are both worse than X6 and X7.
@@yotemaster6571 I feel they're equally bad just for different reasons. X6 makes me personally angrier because it has fewer excuses for being as bad as it is.
In my opinion, this is the best review you have ever done. As much as X6 sounds unappealing, I have an urge to go through the PS Mega Man X Games. I blame you and J.
This game is a guilty pleasure of mine. Even though I thoroughly accept that this is a bad game, I still like it for what it is and what it was trying to accomplish. Yes, it can be gruelling and frustrating at times(okay, a lot of times), but it never feels boring or dull to me. Which is a big plus imo. I also really like the selection of weapons this entry provides. Because they are all so very quirky and unique compared to their counterparts from the previous X games. They are also very helpful as most of them provide great assistance(such as protection and mobility) whenever you're navigating through the game's hellish level designs thanks to their wide array of applications. To name a few, the Yammar Option can both function as a surprisingly potent rapid fire-type weapon as well as a decently reliable barrier-type weapon, the Magma Blade is a powerful long range weapon who's not too shabby in melee department either, and the Guard Shell is, well, broken as fuck, as long as you know how to exploit it.Each of the boss weapons also possess the uncanny hidden ability to completly nullify or eradicate their respctive nightmare phenomena. For example the afro-mentioned Yammar Option completely exterminates those pesky metal mosquitoes that appear once you exit the amazon-area, the Guard Shell offers you complete protection against the random Soul Bodies originating from Shield Sheldon's stage, and the Metal Anchor destroys the mini discount press compactors found in the magma and museum areas. The weapons are also able to pack quite a punch, more so than in most other X games. If you time it correctly, a single charged Metal Anchor can completely one shot those giant abnoxious red doughnut mini bosses. And boy is it gratifying to pummel down on High Max and put him in his rightful place(namely the scrapyard) with any of these special weapons in their charged state! Boy just doesn't know what hit him! The new armors, both Blade and Shadow, are pretty cool too imo. The Blade Armor, while lacking in raw power initially, makes it up in mobility with it's powerful Mach-Dash and in novelty with it's wide charged saber attack. But what makes it truly special is when it is used with in tandem with the Guard Shell. As you may or may not know the Guard Shell has a scary glitch in the way that it is programed, in that, it allows for damage to be stacked on and on and on for EACH DAMM FRAME ON ANIMATION as long as the attack remains within an activated Guard Shell's hit box! Exponentially magnifying the amount of hurt you can dish out! Needless to say this kind of thing works best with a saber-type attack one that has numerous frames of animation. Namely Zero's triple-slash-combo and Blade Armor X's Charged Saber attack. So in conclusion, you can wreck some serious havoc with the Blade Armor once you know the in's and out of it. Also throw in quick charge chip for good measure. But the true MVP between the two new armors is definitely the Shadow Armor. Because, In spite of it's inability to air dash or capitalize on X6's powerful weapons, it more than makes up for it with it's other functions and abilities. Firstly it's completely immune to death-spikes, all shapes and sizes. Making Gate's first stage a walk in the park. It's also able to stick to walls and ceilings with it's high jump, allowing you to catch your breath and stay out dangers way for as long as you want. It's default(and only) weapon, the shuriken buster as I like to call it, is a combination of X3's Ray Splasher and X5 Cresent Shot in it's uncharged state which is really effective against hordes of Nightmare Enemies. But what takes the cake for me is it's charge attack and giga attack, the Engetsurin and the Enkourin respectively, The former is basically a pre-packaged charged saber(Blade Armor) and Guard Shell combo, with an even bigger hitbox to boot! No need to elaborate on how broken this monster is I believe. The latter is simply two Engetsurins that orbit around X for a set period of time, ravaging anything in it's wake without mercy. You can basically melt the bosses health bar like ice cream on a sidewalk on a hot summer's day with that giga. So yeah! The Shadow Armor is fucking awesome like that. It's only problem is it's lack of variety in the offensive department. The old out-of-maintenance Falcon Armor can seriously go fuck itself though.(Thanks A LOT Alia.) The Ultimate Armor though, albeit a little aged and rusted on the outside, is still good and reliable as it always was. Makes the beginning portion of the game and the second High Max encounter a total breeze. I do not recommend it for the Sigma fight though, as the fight was designed with the two new armors in mind. Not the Ultimate Armor, not at all.
You took the words out of my mouth. I won't deny this game's various flaws and I can understand why other people would hate it, but damn it, would I be lying if I said I didn't have fun while playing through it.
Mega Buster I get they tried to do replicated bring back Fourth Armor in X5 but they forgot that the main premise of Falcon Armor is ability to fly if they remove that it's just a bland armor imo.
kratosgow342 In that case they should've just brought the Fourth/Force Armor back instead of nerfing down the Falcon Armor to the point where it's not even the Falcon Armor anymore! This is the reason why I'd rather cheat and equip the Ultimate Armor and breeze through the beginning portion of the game instead of dealing with that piece of junk! Like I always say: When the game cheats, you cheat back!
"But once you get used to it, it's not that bad." Like the Great Clement once said, even when you do get used to it, once you do know how to avoid all the bullshit, that doesn't excuse everything you went through on your first attempt. First impressions are, in my eyes, what decides the game's quality for me. If I hated the design on my first try, chances are I'm going to hate it on later tries.
It's basically the same thing as saying once you develop Stockholm syndrome you don't even notice you're being abused anymore. Yeah, I learned how to beat X6 and I beat X6 but that doesn't make it fun, it just means I adapted to its nonsense and exploited its flaws. It's still an inherently unfinished and nearly broken game.
Man, my hat's off to you for having the patience to play through this game. X6 made me give up on the X series altogether. I haven't played X7 or X8, though I'll likely be picking up the legacy collections when they come out next month. I think you hit the nail on the head for why I had such a lousy time when I first played through X6 (back when it was first released). The Nightmare system was atrocious, and I had no idea what was going on when I beat a stage and had such difficulties in the next stage because of that system.
I think is because you don't the correct boss order. If you dont have the right weapon and you try to go a boss depending on which one. Will be impossible for beat them.
I'm not entirely sure why, but I frequently find myself revisiting X6. I own the MegaMan X Collection and despite hating this game's Nightmare System and all the other bullshit it throws at you, I like replaying it. It has high points that are just so fun to go through, and I wish the rest of the game was on the same level of quality. HOWEVER Upon replaying this game **today**, I discovered something that I haven't seen mention of in the sites and videos I've read and watched, which makes me think I'm the first person to discover this??? Basically, *the nightmare effects in levels can be turned off.* As of posting this comment, I haven't personally tested to see if this holds true for all the nightmare effects, but I discovered that, for instance, upon re-entering Weapon Center (Infinity Mijinion's stage), Amazon Area (Commander Yammark's stage) and Inami Temple (Rainy Turtloid's stage) no longer suffer from that rage-inducing darkness bullshit. Spread the word!
Coming from J's Review and seeing the people in the comments try and defend this game is insane. I swear they don't listen to the actual criticisms of the game and just go "you're bad because you didn't like the level" So many things are wrong with this game. Trying to defend the game by saying it's meant to be challenging is easily countered by that being wrong. How is cramming a high health enemy that blocks when it's not attacking in a hallway where you can't dodge it? Or the enemies that fire invincible rockets at you. What challenge does blacking out 90% of the screen add? What about levels you can't beat without specific power ups or exploits? How does having a power up to bypass the impassible hard? It's like putting a key in a door. How is it challenging to have reploids who's gifts are unlisted until you get them, can be perma killed? A slow ceiling crusher through the ENTIRE STAGE isn't challenging, it's tedious. The only challenge there is keeping your patience in check for 10 minutes of dull gameplay with the worst song in the game on loop. Fighting the same mini-boss with way too much health 5 times? None of this is challenging. It's irritating padding for bad level design. Look no further than Wolfang's level. The had to remove the series staple of wall jumping from the entire level to try and make it challenging. "But Snot, they did that with Split Mushroom!" 1 room in a much larger level isn't damming, it's just 1 part you deal with vs an entire level of janky, poorly animated ice boulders rolling at you. If it was meant to be challenging, then the bosses would have been a challenge. Things would be difficult and not road blocks/padding. Dark Souls is challenging, there's always several ways to take on a task, you have many options and you're never walled off for simply not having an obscure power up. What challenge is added by requiring a a jumper ability while the stage is under a nightmare effect and then- assuming Jeff doesnt' get killed you can bypass that wall! How does having an impossible wall challenging unless you get a move that simply lets you jump higher? Running naked through Cyber Peacocks level as X dashing and hopping around trying not to get grabbed by those orbs and get a S rank is hard. It takes practice and is possible- but difficult with no gear. But with gear it's made easier. X6 was rushed, it has janky level design, lack luster bosses and animations. The fact the original director of the series didn't even know it was being made speaks volumes. Playing the game when it was new was annoying and now playing it today, knowing all the secrets thanks to guides? It's just obviously bad and liking a bad game is fine but trying to claim it's some work of genius difficulty and challenge is insane. Even speed runners have admitted this game isn't good. But some illusion of challenge makes it good? Then why aren't the bosses difficult? Why are the levels just padded out the whole way? Man that came out longer than I thought it would. But seriously, fuck this game.
I read the entirety of this comment and still can't agree with you mostly because despite the game's issues, this game is still FAR better than many other titles out there from the era. Perhaps that is just symptom of even "bad" Mega Man being better than the curve, but either way, X6 is a game that can not only be enjoyable, but can also be rewarding. The game is far from flawless, but honestly, that can be said about the entire series. X1 requires repeated stage visits (even 4 times to a single stage) for 100% completion, X2 has bosses so boring that they literally resort to a sponge for one of them, X3 is flawed enough that I don't feel I need to even comment about it, but just as an example, the arm "upgrade" in that game is awful and is more of a downgrade than anything else due to the slowness that it causes in your fire, not to mention prevents you from holding the charge shots that matter. X4 is admittedly harder to criticize, but even it isn't perfect. The game gets lazy regarding weaknesses and has some bosses that share a weakness (see Cyber Peacock and Frost Walrus in the Zero storyline) and also failed to give any sort of capsule equivalent for Zero. X5 has a VERY unrefined reploid saving mechanic and literally RNG story elements which can even potentially remove Zero from the picture, which is quite awful if you primarily upgraded him over X. Regardless, what I'm trying to say is that X6 has problems, it really does. Despite this however, there are many things in it to be enjoyed, especially if you are a veteran fan of the series. To discount it for its flaws seems a bit rough, as most of the flaws are at least bearable. At any rate, even if you don't agree with me, thanks for reading if you got this far.
Allison F Being not as bad as Bubsy 3D,Sonic Boom Rise of lyric as you say far worser games. X6 just took the fun out and injected frustrating. To me it's like whaaaaaat ? A spin off would be better cause the criticism would be scaled down and not following in footsteps of MMX will avoid comparisons with better x games.Look at Clements reactions at this game. X1 was forgivable maybe even honourable. The glitches were hilarious and revisits caused by game designs philosophy of that time.X1 still handles boss rush better than others game.Dividing them.Music is best . X1 has flaws but it's still a masterpiece . Storm eagle joke,Spark mandrill syndrome,Zero having no gameplay role, vile being such a easy boss ,and others I did enjoy x6 until I got to Gates lab 1 where I used Zero and nightmare mother gave me shivers. X6 is hard, enjoyable but too chaotic, cheap, unfair. I know the positives of x6. 1.Improved Rescue System 2.Music 3.Armors being better than x4/x5 4.Gate,HighMax,Nightmare mother :sot of like it was bringing innovation to boss battles 5.Zeros revamped Saber, buster, animations. The good levels are either too short or get infected by nightmare.
I love X6, but I can admit there are some flaws. But I really can't agree with the flaws you point out. Mondobondo only blocks until you stop attacking, and his ground pound attack is easily jumped over giving you plenty of time to wreck him. It's not too different from X3 where every enemy and their grandma has shields. You don't need to get the reploids, the challenge is keeping them from being permakilled. It seems that most of the issues people have with saving reploids in X6 is because they either rush in and end up in an unmanageable situation with the nightmare viruses, or ground dash, which should be avoided, it's too slow! just map dash to a shoulder button and tape that shit down. Everyone complains about the trash compactor, but there are ways to make it easier. the blocks from ground scaravich's level can make it easier, and the ride armor cannot be crushed. Just leave it on a high platform, because even when you're not in it, it still stops the ceiling! Then you just dash through like normal. Falcon armor's special skill is shooting charge shots through walls and enemies, but this guy can't be bothered to shoot the damn nightmare virus with a charge shot. going through the whole game as X using the Z saber? wtf? The miniboss goes down easy, you just need to use the right weapons. The thing has no invincibility, so you can destroy it easily, especially with a giga crush or one of your weapons insane charge attacks, as they all have screen covering ridiculous charge attacks! What is actually wrong with the game, which I will admit, is that you can't kill high max without rainy turtleloid's weapon and have to suicide to leave, an area in yamma commander's alternate path cannot be completed without an airdash, A part of the gate stage cannot be completed without an air dash or a combination of jumper, hyperdash, and speedster, blaze heatnix's alternate path is blocked by metal shark player's nightmare, That one spiked section in Gate's stage, and that one spiked leap of faith in yamma's stage. The rest of the game's level design is okay. Not great, but okay.
It is kind of a shame you felt the need to cut the story from your review. X6 introduces a pretty interesting divergence in the story. In X's and Zero's solo endings, Zero goes into stasis and the story of Megaman Zero starts. But in in the X and Zero ending, he doesn't, and X7, X8 and command mission happens instead. Not many people are aware of this timeline divergence, Capcom included.
the story is pretty good in the zero games its really bad in the X games and a huge mess in a lot of areas. im pretty sure X5 was written to lead into the zero games then X6 was while X8 draws direct references to it >.>
berserkchip Not really. Capcom stated that Zero's ending happensnin an unexpecified point in time after the X series, so X7 and X8 still happened. That was only the first time he was sealed, so that a cure to the virus could be found from his body. He wakes up way before the Zero series and a whole chain of events ocur, which end with him sealed yet again.
polaris you thought right!!! you supposed to pick up everything!!! i play this game with mentality of rpg gamer, so 100% completion or 100% completion. i restart the whole game, when i notice i failed to rescue 1 out of all victim.
It's not bad, it suffers from some bad level design, but every issue has a workaround. I find the the people that tend to hate it are those who rigidly try to do it the *wrong way*. People who like X6 are either really creative in their gaming and will find the alternate solution and enjoy that puzzle aspect, or those who just lucked out in their approach and had none of the common issues. If you used large attacks to defeat the big donut miniboss in seconds, it didn't frustrate you. If you used the shadow armor with the 3 mobility parts, you had no problem with the gate levels aside from a single very tricky jump. If you defeated rainy turtleloid before facing high max, you didn't have to suicide around 5 to 9 times with all the extra lives thrown at you.
Being a devil's advocate: That's what nostalgia vision does lol but i agree anyways. I loved X6 and X5. I played X4 later on and had less love for it. X7...never could finish X7...
have you ever played the megaman Zero series? i honestly feel like, in terms of average quality of the games, the Zero series is the best megaman series. both classic and X have games ranging from great to bad..the Zero games are all great.
Ahhh, X6.... If you ask me, it has the best music of the Playstation trilogy and some of the best graphics/visual presentation of the entire series... and the actual gameplay and feel, the increased/better options of X and Zero themselves, some awesome boss weapons for both and my favorite armor upgrade suits and playable Zero overall in any X game make for a great base upon which an awesome game could have been made -- as well as a pretty cool story (IN MY HUMBLE, PERSONAL OPINION) to top it all off... but it was sadly, horribly, *horribly* marred by a few truly, deeply atrocious stage and boss designs and that godawful nightmare virus system which would have been largely alleviated if you simply got another chance to rescue the Reploid in question upon re-entering the stage, or could just shoot the guy off after he'd started his 'corruption' animation. Even with all that, though, I personally like it a bit more than X5, and a LOT more than X7. And yes, I loved seeing you suffer through this and offer your honest opinions and detailed analyses of exactly *why* this game has issues and what they are, while still being fair and giving due credit to the positive aspects like the soundtrack and many elements of the gameplay. I don't think I could ever hope for anyone else to properly convey the raw shittitude of Heatnix's stage as well as you did -- though even then, I feel Metal Shark's is even worse, personally, and maybe the Gate stages; at least you can cheese the ouroboros guys with the right abilities.
See, comments like these make me feel as if though I overlooked some more of the better aspects of X6 - that I was too harsh on the game. I did write something about the weapons, the armors and the Ranking System, even, but it just wasn't very insightful; it was shallow and superficial, so I figured I shouldn't waste anybody's time and force in bits and pieces I felt meh about. I don't know if I'm unfair in saying this, but the great base that is built here doesn't mean a thing to me when the game that is laid over it is crippled with poor design. Again, I do think the potential is definitely there for X6 to be really good, but I couldn't bring myself to sugarcoat how blatantly unfinished, unbalanced and untested the whole package is. Some things feel almost intentional and I wouldn't be surprised if a decent portion of it was. Not saying that your comment is necessarily suggesting differently than what I am saying, but it just got me wondering.
For the Nightmare Mother fight, I got myself so used to fighting it on hard mode that my muscle memory gets fucked up every time it does the hesitation thing on normal mode
X6 is the one that I played the most, it's true, it is a mess , but one that I love. Love your reviews. Especially this one since you went to the gameplay and level desing and not the story, people says that x6 story doesn't make sense and once you learn the lore its true, but when I played this game as a kid I didnt know english, so it really didnt matter lol, and now that I can understand (kind of lol) still doesnt matter since I just skip the cutscenes/dialogues.
I happened to stumble upon your X4 - X6 reviews and I enjoyed all 3 of them. Especially since it helped me realize why I was unsatisfied with X5 and X6. These reviews are in-depth as well as enjoyable, and I bet sometime in the near future your channel will see a massive increase in viewers. Keep up the great work!
I never wanna receive a comment again about how I think X6 is a bad game because I suck it at or whatever. I completely decimated this game and stand by it: ruclips.net/video/QbZhtN11le8/видео.html
Megaman X6 is difficult the way passing a kidney stone is difficult. It's not fun or interesting, you're just in pain and relieved when it's finally passed because the experience is behind you
53:13 “I don’t have much noteworthy to say about this portion…” 53:17 “…EXCEPT FOR THE FUCKING GLARING BULLSHIT THAT X IN HIS SHADOW ARMOR CANNOT COMPLETE THE STAGE WITHOUT SPECIFIC PARTS!”
Blade Armor destroys High Max too. You have to be really close but the charged saber attack safely hits him through his barrier and stuns him for you to hit him with a special weapon. It basically turns the fight into Spark Mandrill 2 with how easy it becomes when you realize it.
As contrast to other video game reviewers, your content is fantastic, and from my opinion, among the best. An hour-long video dissecting and deconstructing a game under precise scrutiny is something you is a very scarce sight, especially with the caliber of detail and effort you very clearly pour into each one. I just wanted to stop by and voice my appreciation in that regard, and I, alongside many, many others, adore the work you do.
I agree with almost everything you say in this review, and yet ironically, whenever I'm in the mood to play a Megaman X game, I often like to reach for this one. The two biggest reasons why: 1) As you said, the music in almost every stage is quite good. I never get tired of these tracks. 2) Even though the game ridiculously challenging, I find a strange sense of satisfaction in taking it on. If it's too tough, one thing I've noticed is that a level that's tough to play with X is actually not so bad with Zero, and vice versa. Case in point: I feel like the Blaze Heatnix level was tailor made for Zero! It's so much easier to take on the mini boss with his Sabre than with X, and slashing through all that stuff with the music track is one heck of an adrenaline rush!
Well, I just sat here and watched all of your MMX reviews of 1 through 6 back to back and while I disagree with a piece here and there, I think you generally have a solid idea of what each entry does for the series and you gave them respectable time and effort. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you chat about them and bring me back to my own experiences with them. Thanks for the time and effort you put into these vids!
Regarding the extreme variance in the stage's difficulties, Megamam & Bass made it absolutely better; they put it in a progressive order where one stage unlocks others and so on.
As an X6 fan, I’d like to explain my own reason as to why I love this game, regarding the ending Beating the game makes me feel validated as a player of the MMX series, I can easily complete X1, X2, X3, X4, and X5 (however that one is a little more challenging) X6 tests the player’s abilities that were given to them, and asks of them to push them past their limits, like with Zero’s second segment in Gate Stage 2 where you have to spam the wall jump button to survive, the only time that was really useful in the previous game was against the Shadow Devil There’s also using the Maverick Weapons to your advantage to traverse the stages, instead of just using them to attack (check out my own channel where I did that in Commander Yammark’s second path with no armor X as an example) This game makes me feel validated as a Mega Man fan, unlike a game such as Mega Man & Bass, another INCREDIBLY hard game in the series Also, the music slaps, which just makes the experience a whole lot better
23:04 - That actually has happened to me on my first playthrough a few years ago (when I got the X Collection). I am like: "What were they thinking putting a random unnoticeable spike in an ice pit?" 31:30 - Commander Yammark is male. ._.
you probably know this by now, but in the Rockman complete works book, keji inafune stated that mega man and bass for the super famicom was designed to be hard intentionally, with inane even reminding the team that they were going to easy on the player but for x6, the most he gave it was an apology for it's existence
Your reviews alongside J's are probably one of my favorites to watch. And I actually got into the Mega Man series in a weird way, I started off with X8 but then finished classics before slowly working towards X series, since i promised myself I would finish everything (even though I finished Zero series in between classics and X series), and right now I'm nearing the fight with Zero/X. But I hope you would've talked about the story here, since I'm still confused on how the story works, is X6 an alternate timeline which leads to the other X games, or are the Zero games the alternate timeline, meaning ZX and ZXA aren't canon? Hope for the best for you! P.S Sure you know this already but Commander Yammark is apparently a dude.
X6 was my first megaman game ever when I was like six or seven years old and for that reason I never noticed how bad/hard it was designed, so after seeing in the internet when I was older it was so despised was weird for me. Being my first megaman game kinda makes it my favorite of all, maybe just for nostalgia, but just like the video says actually it has really good ideas AND independent of that, the music man, almost every ost is a fkn banger for me or maybe again is just nostalgia but anyways I actually like x6 forgive me internet.
These criticisms are so incredible and perfect, it blows my mind why I still like this game. There's a certain charm these games bring, that no matter how terrible and irritating some mechanics or stages are, you are somehow forgiving of all of it's mistakes. This game sucks, but I like it...
4:40 I was unaware the _[!]_ prompt was for Alia. I thought it was a little warning for upcoming danger. So I've gone an entire childhood without her help for X6.
But seriously dude this was an amazing review. You didn't just see the game for all it's bad points. You genuinely tried to see the game from multiple perspectives (is the game intended to be hard? is the game really that bad?). I can tell you put a lot of work into this. I really hope you get bigger on RUclips because of videos like this with so much effort put into them. Keep up the great work.
Thanks a lot! It does me good to know people recognize how much effort, time and thought is put into these videos. I hope I can get a bigger subscriber base in the future, so that I can continue making more videos. :)
Excellent review as always! You pretty much talked about everything that's wrong with (and even a few things it did right) and I applaud you for that, because no other reviewer on RUclips had done that well before IMO. On a side note, I actually used to defend this game for quite a while, but after taking a closer look at it recently... yeah, it does suck objectively. It's just riddled with flaws all around. That said though, I'm on the camp of people who love it. Even with the bad design it has, defeating enemies and bosses and getting past levels still feels very rewarding to me. Hell, even the worst parts of the game I can get some joy out of, and sure, that's because I know how to get around the bs, but still. Couple that with the good controls (aside from a couple nuisances), appealing graphics, interesting level and boss concepts and the KICKASS music and there's one hand i just can't get enough of. And again, I can perfectly see why that wouldn't bring satisfaction to most, but to me anyway, that doesn't detract from the fun. I replay it about as much as the other X games except X7. Overall though, I'd say that X6 is easily my biggest guilty pleasure in gaming. Hope you guys can understand.
Thanks! It took a long time to script and edit so I am glad the review satisfied you! I can definitely where people like you are coming from with Mega Man X6. A lot of ideas and concepts for the stages are very cool and varied. I think this is why X6 is still liked by a group of fans, because if it weren't for that, this game would be boring AND poorly designed. Right now it is very ambitious with some signs of greatness, but the game is ultimately far too flawed to be called good, in my opinion.
Retropolis Zone Retropolis Zone Your welcome! I'd say that the time you took to make this definitely paid off. And yeah, this game really had tons of potential which was sadly never fulfilled, I feel. I think it would be simply AMAZING if X6 got the chance to get a remade version of some sort with more polished level/boss design and such, but considering Crapcom's situation right now, I doubt that will happen anytime soon... Oh, and I can't wait for your Sonic 1 review by the way.
This entire game feels like an amateur fan hack or something. Get how I mean? Where they don't really know how level design functions, so they just put in whatever they think might be cool? Leading to a bunch of problems and subpar design, simply because it _isn't_ designed? This entire game feels like _that._
FYI in Central Museum, you actually can control where you go when you enter the totem poles. Each totem pole takes you to 2 separate rooms with which you can access either by going either above or below the bird part of the pole. The mechanic isn't really explained at all nor does it indicate which section of the pole you need to touch in order to go to the desired section but it is there to help you have some control. Doesn't excuse the poor level design though. Other than that, really good review as usual! Keep up the good work!
Huh... That's... interesting. Like, how the fuck am I supposed to know? Lol, like you said. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed the review! It's great to read this after the last couple long nights I spent editing this!
Hopefully I'm not alone in this, but Please keep doing reviews like this! It was well thought out, entertaining and kept me engaged throughout the entire video. Well done!
I don't think you're alone in this considering the amount of views, likes and comments. Thanks a lot though! It's really great to read comments like these and they help a lot. :)
When people ask why I didn't think that Mighty No 9 was that bad, I say, "I mean, I made it through X6". I don't think this is the worst game of all time, but I do call it the worst game by a major studio that I have ever played.
28:40 'ish - I was just drinking when you talked about it and I got the funny mental image of " _It's shooting out of all it's orifices!_ " The two most common things us who played X6 experienced: * Utter contempt for the red donuts * Accidentally killing ourselves as Zero in Infinity Mijinion's stage with the Up + Saber move. 31:52 - Those ain't rocks. Ground Scaravic is a Dung Beetle. Enjoy that mental image :P Sums up X6 perfectly.
I consider X6 a guilty pleasure, even with all the bullshit. I'm looking forward to your X7 review, if you ever decide to cover it. A word of warning, though: if you disliked X6 this much, I can only imagine how much you'll despise X7...
when i did a No Armor Run twitch... Blaze's level was the turning point of beyond rage and suicidal thoughts. After 4 hours, i won. Finally, infinity douchebag boss fight was another turning point in the run. After i beat this run, i'm never doing this again.
Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with the series, but I don't care; I think 6 is an overall better package than 5. The parts system was vastly improved, you weren't bogged down by the doomsday clock, the reploid rescue system fit better (though I will admit, having them permanently disappear if you lose one is a bit shit.) People gripe about the story, but aside from some missed opportunities (Gate's entire gimmick is resurrecting dead mavericks! Why wasn't he the one responsible for Zero's return?!), I think it's only due to the translation. Everyone jokes about, "I hid myself to repair myself", despite that in the original, it was implied Dr Wily's ghost repaired Zero like Dr Light had done for X in 5. And this is more of a personal taste, but I think 6 has the best music in the entire series.
I can kind of see and get a feel for why people would find X6 superior over X5. I am not a fan of X5, either, but I don't think it's... bad. Just meh and sort of bland. X6, on the other hand, is clearly so haphazardly designed. Certain aspects like artificially removing wall jumps for no reason, making stages impossible to pass without upgrades etc. - it's just not something I think that can be defended or sugarcoated.
Retropolis Zone Yeah, I see how that would be frustrating, but I never felt like the game was flatout impossible. Personally, I just love the aesthetics of the PS1 X games and I was happy to have more after X5. Plus, it would have been a shame to introduce all those new characters in 5 and only have them exist for one game.
They explain why Zero wasn't revived by Gate. He tried, but failed, that's where the nightmare Zero came from. Because Zero technically isn't a reploid (he was built by wily and isn't at all based on X's design like all reploids). Though Isoc is most definitely Wily.
I agree on X6 having better overall music and armor system, but X5 beats X6 by a long shot in level design and overall gameplay (disregard the shitty laser cannon mechanic)
Why do you think the doomsday clock is a bad adittion, tho? i don't see any flaws with that system, you have more than enough time to do everything, besides, it's good at tying the gameplay and storyline together, like the Virus system.
I after realizing Zero actually has his buster in this game, I'd like to address why people hate X's saber. We all knows Zero's thing is his saber. Barring this game and the brief moments you could use him in X3, his saber was his only method of combat. Nevertheless, it was still pretty versatile. He had a 3-hit combo, a rolling slash, his "powers" were special moves or permanent upgrades that he always had access to without having to switch to them despite not being as good for bosses like X's equivalent in most cases, and all of these were pretty powerful. This still applies in X6, but he now has a subweapon in the form of his buster that is VERY inferior to X's, as it can't be charged or fired in the air. That being said, it had a decent rate of fire (if X is Fox, Zero is Wolf, but faster), it's power was alright, and the invul it caused on boss (and I think enemies in general) was less that usual, allowing it to body bosses and fell regular enemies decently if you wanted or needed to keep your distance. His saber was better, but his buster wasn't by any means bad. Now look at X. ranged combat is his specially. He's got a rapid fire buster than can be charged by several levels for a variety of stronger and larger charged shot depending on the armor he had on, most of which can mow through smaller enemies and deal good damage to anything that can't be oneshot (plus you could mash out single shots immediately after). He also had special weapons that ALL annihilated the boss that was weak to them (except Mijinion I think) and could help against regular enemies. As his sub weapon, he had a saber like Zero. However, unlike Zero's buster, X's saber was VERY inferior to his main weapon. It only has swing, which wouldn't be too bad if it weren't so slow and weak. As shown in this video, it takes 3 swings to take out that crate in the intro stage, during which that drill can easily drop down and hit you. You could always move beforehand, but that'll take longer, and you really shouldn't have to wait to cut down that crate considering X in similar situations could destroy an obstacle using single shots of his buster with ease. And those moments of it being useful are very few (not counting the Magma Blade since that's a special weapon), and you're better of not bothering with it and going buster only unlike Zero, who actually has some uses for his buster even if it's just a subweapon. Maybe this could've been reprimanded if X-could charge his saber swings or fire of a blade beam without the need for the Blade Armor (which doesn't even use the saber button, but Up + a charged shot), but as it is, it's so inferior to the X-Buster that it isn't worth using save for the few situations where it can be useful, in which case you could just switch to Zero and use his far superior saber and viable buster.
The boss at 48:00 I always beat as shadow armor x because his ultimate destroys that boss. You need speedster and jumper parts and you can avoid damage if you're good. I could avoid damage like 50% of the time
i actually like this game, it's hard as fuck but i was a poor kid so games needed to last and x6 forced me to master the mechanics to survive to a speedrunner level, it's artificial life sure but it did mean i ended up playing this more than other MegaMan games and as a kid with no games that's very appreciated
Just discovered your channel because the mega man network did a writeup of you. I gotta say, you are one of the most informative reviewers out there. I look forward to your future stuff man, you rock!
Oh, that's awesome! I wasn't aware somebody had done a write-up of me. Thanks for watching, thanks for the compliment and I hope you enjoy the channel!
I already enjoy the channel, your analysis and breakdown are simply spectacular! Despite my love for X6 (I seriously don't even know why) you articulated every problem I have with the game. I also always use Shadow Armor and that part in the level was bullshit!
So, what this review is trying to say is that this video game is the 2D equivalent of Dark Souls 2's game design philosophy of frustration and "when you can't make it interesting, add a ton of shit to make it hard"
1:00:43 you forgot to mention that what just happened here means unavoidable death, and sometimes, if it happens at the beginning of the ice dropping cycle, you may be there waiting for a LOOONG time until the block that kills you decides to spawn. This and another reason is why I don't understand why you said that this is one of the better stages. On the next section, where there's rows of ice blocks falling with one opening for you to slip through, one would think that this gap is safe, and you can't possibly know that if you don't jump, an ice block will instantly materialize to fill the gap and, yeah, kill you.
6:04: "X1-X4 all had these *huge* monstrosities for intro stage bosses that turned out to be absolute babies once you started fighting them." Um, what about the fight with Vile made you think he was a baby. I mean yes, it's basically a scripted sequence because you can't beat him, but that just proves my point. And what about the Sigma head from X5?
Great vídeo as Always RZ, I do disagree with many points that are in this comment, but every point is well explained. I personally wouldnt call X6 a bad game in anyway, but I wouldnt call it a great game either, it is a flawed game, Im gonna piss of alot of people, but the designs choices of X6 arent as bad as the bad controls of Castlevania and Ghost n Goblins or the Limited Continues of Sonic 1-2, mainly because you work can around perfectly with that and you arent fighting the whole game, really Castlevania 1-4 would be so much better if I hadnt to fight with the controls the whole time, but that is just my opinion. I personally dont blame the developmenters nor the fact that wasnt Inafune idea, they made X5, my favorite Megaman game and one of my Top 15 Games of All Time and X8 which was made after that too. I also feel that the level design outside of Blaze Heatnix, Ground Scaravich and the Gates Stages were really thought out, but the game needed more polishment, that is why I think it deserves a remake or a Sonic CD treatment. TBH I usually dont like memorazation that is one of the reasons, that until I played the remakes, I didnt like Sonic 2 almost at all, it was one of the first games I ever played and kinda scared me from games, until I played things like Mario, Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy, etc, it was so frustrating and the paths made me think that the games was a huge mess, today I really like the game, but still I hold the memorazation of that game in a much lower point than the X6 memorazation, why? because there is unlimited checkpoints. Im not saying that everybody should agree with me, while I am one of the biggest X6 defenders on the internet, I still know what is an opinion and I respect that, you can hate the game as you wish, but I still say it is not that bad. Megaman X6 is also a game that I cant get enought, I made 5 diferente runs of that game only in this year and I plan to do other in the beggining of the next year. Its also SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than X7, I would replay this game as Unarmored X without weapons, energy tanks, heart tanks, parts, weapon tank in Xtreme mode as beating that bad excuse of a game that is Megaman X7, it is along with Virtual Hydlide and Final Fantasy All The Bravest for my most hated game, it is that bad, even when you expect something awful you will be disapointed, because it will be awful, earaping, frustrating, boring, broken mess, unoriginal, clunky, slow, boring and every other bad adjective that you can use to describe a game. After that Megaman marathon you have a new subscriber and I really wanat to see your thoughts in Sonic, because while I have bad memories with them i still really like the games. Have a great day.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the review even though you like the game! Ghost n Goblins sucks, no doubt about it, haha. The thing with Castlevania (especially Rondo of Blood), it feels like the games were designed around the more heavy, realistic controls. I can understand why the controls would put people off - they kinda do for me as well - but if the game can create fair and specifically catered challenges around them then I don't think it's faulty. With regards to limited continues, I don't have an issue with them as long as the game isn't long and is largely fair. Sonic 1 and 2 unfortunately don't fare very well in that regard, but with something like Star Fox on SNES, it's largely well done. The thing about X6 is, while it never sends you back farther than the latest checkpoint, I don't think that gives the designers a free-pass to put in a ton of frustrating shit. There are so many things they fucked up in my eyes, to the point that the game overs being so forgiving really had to be done that way or else X6 would be practically unplayable. By 2001 it's also not a thing to praise anymore because unlimited continues were widely adopted to. Remember that Sonic 1 and 2, as well as the Castlevanias, came out a decade earlier or almost two. That said, I don't hate Mega Man X6. My first two playthroughs weren't very pleasurable and I definitely still think the design is all-around bad, but like I said, I do enjoy the better parts of the game now. That's only because I had to review it, though, that I got to that point. Otherwise I don't know if I would have bothered. Thanks for being respectful about it and becoming a subscriber! You have a great day, too. :)
I don't know why there's a dick measuring contest between which game people think is worse between X6 or X7. There both shit but I'd rather play X7 then X6, I'd rather be bored and occasionally frustrated than be frustrated with everything past the first level.
I honestly do like X6 but I would never call it a good game. It's hard, it's unfair, the story makes no sense and ruins what X5 set up and it looks kinda ugly in a lot of segments but idk I see myself replaying X6 more than X4 even tho X4 is a way better game.
Great analysis. I found some new bad stuff in this game that I did not realize back in the day. Mega Man x7 is in the corner now. Although it's not so artificially difficult as x6, bad design choices are everywhere. At least x8 correct almost every one. I really hope you got some fun playing them. :)
I Stumbled on to your channel and started watching you reviews not to long ago. It's clear you're not a native English speaker. Still, from the X video to this one your accent gets much better. I don't always agree with you, but you criticisms are very justified, your research and referencing skill are superb, and the video are made and paced very well. Thumbs up man.

Retropolis Zone you can do this, besides, I think your a special reviewer because you review the game like you were dissecting a it
you do good reviews and if you want more people my advice is to buddy up to other youtubers and eventually do a few projects with them
There is quite a bit of competition these days for the intelligent games analysis videos, as niche as it already is, the best way for you to get noticed (aside from someone finding this by searching for the game) is if someone gives you the shout-out.
If you were wondering what differences are in Xtreme mode:
Nightmare viruses are far more common, shoot six projectiles instead of four at a much faster rate, are much more durable, and will teleport to your location if you leave them alone for too long.
The projectiles shot from the Junkroid enemies can no longer be destroyed
The Totem Gate enemies shoot much faster (At the same rate as after you destroy the middle portion on normal mode) and the middle portion goes after you immediately
Enemies are littered *EVERYWHERE*
You take much more damage.
...And more!
It happens. As a kid, Final Fantasy 13 was a favorite of mine, only to discover years later online that everybody hated it. Haha.
Revenge Of The Sith is by far the best but X6? No.
Same here. X6 was my favorite Megaman and one of my favorite games. Recently I was shocked that it is hated.
I’m pretty sure people hated it because it was so difficult. It seems like any game that forces the player to actually earn anything is instantly hated, which explains the rise and success of mobile games that allow you to just buy the win instead.
No way in hell you finished x6 as a 10 year old
I really feel X6 is the typical case of a dev team being so much used to the game it's making that they keep making it harder and harder, loosing sight of how difficult the game really is.
I hate that shit!"
Me: I only played the SNES trilogy, so I don't have issues with the camera whatsoever. Sure X3 is a nudge harder, but still. It just requires a huge increase of the awareness of one's surroundings.
In other words, this is a great example of "How Not to Make a Mega Man Game." LOL
if you cut out the monumental levels of bullshit in x6 there's literally only 2-3 hours of actual game. they rushed this game so fucking hard that literally most of the game is padding

I can certainly agree to that. X6 might gave tons of design issues, but NOTHING is worse than X7.

Yep. Though they’d need significant level design Changes. For 5 they need to fix mcwhallen’s stage, zero virus one, take out the frame drops in dark dizzy’s stage and more the skiver more forgiving. For 6 just redesign every level past the intro. Actually just make it a completely different game.

Here's an interesting tidbit. If you use the Yammar Option on the mosquitoes, you can destroy them! Dragonflies are the normal enemies of the pests.
Off-topic, but when you play Dr. Muto, you can get one of the Genitor parts by zapping a sink in the lab.
If any of you think this game is hard now, just try to play on Xtreme mode.
Dear lord the entire game is suffering on Xtreme,
I did a Xtreme playthrough when I first got it as a kid as i beat X5 on Xtreme and swore never again.
This game i finished on hard mode.
Mega D?
Real mature there. lol 😂
Don't...
Also, if you let go of "Down" when you're under the press, you will fucking DIE! WHY IN THE FUUUUUU
i don't even ammm so you are not able to use the ice block powdr for X and use for jumping?
i don't even Actually there are a few ways you can get past those spikes with X.
Dude I was a kid with no internet, I didn't know
i don't even I mean, it wasn't really that much out of the way. As long as you explored for yourself there was no need for internet. I'm just saying though, not trying to put you down or anything. It was more of an observartion.
"Mega D" 😂
*heheee boi...*
HEY DAMN YOU
"Hope you enjoyed Review"... was that a nod to the poor grammar we saw earlier in the video?
No unlisted here. Go figure.
xxx RedBlueGiG Same here.
Retropolis Zone I know that this is not related to what your talking about... but Commander Yanmark is a dude.
I know, me calling him a girl was just a joke because of the flirty eyes. haha.
Retropolis Zone You'll be surprised by how many characters are like that in the megaman series, just look at Lumine.
My first time playing the temple was with the darkness effect on and I thought that was just how the level was supposed to be.
It was a total nightmare
That is so bad
Heeheeheehee nightmare
@@bezhfezhHow do we get out of this nightmare, the game is satanic. It never existed in the past.
It is connected with Ewa Beach, Hawaii. They are destroying ecosystems, the balance and cycle of nature.
I don't think the camera in X3 was bad. It's identical to the first two games.
I can at least forgive that design choice on the grounds that it's refreshing to see a shielded enemy without suicidal behavior for once (and since it's all but impossible to convey that information through level design alone, I can't exactly fault them there.)
Anyway, I have a feeling I'll be watching a lot of your videos in the near future. Your work is outstanding.
Thanks for great comment! I'm pretty sure this video of mine took me the longest to make, so I'm pretty happy to read comments like these and see it generally doing well.
Hopefully you will enjoy my other videos, as well. :)
I love X3! It's not as bad as it might seem! LMAO
Most people say they hate it for one reason they don't know the correct boss order.
Imagine if this game was remade by people who actually knew what they were doing.
They did know what did they doing. The didn't have enough time to do anything
@@ilyaa643 no they didn’t lmao. You ARE aware this game exists soley as a cash grab right? The series ended with x5 🤣
55:40 Truly the most intense portrayal of pain ever heard in gaming
What is it with a lot of obnoxiously bad games having fantastic soundtrack? This game is my favorite Megaman X soundtrack, Alone in the Dark 08, Sonic 06, Final Fantasy XIII (subjectively), even the tune in Big Rigs is catchy.. (if it even plays) ..good music can't be the easiest part of any entertainment media to create, right?
No idea, man! It's funny. The music team usually isn't very involved with the development though so it's probably just a coincidence.
Big Rigs has music?
X6's soundtrack is pretty fantastic. All of it. I think every track is a hit. Every track is fitting for every situation they're used in and highly memorable. Few video game soundtracks are so consistently high quality althroughout. Soundtracks in the Megaman series more often than not succeed for me but I think X6 is just above all those. One of my favorite game soundtracks. It's too bad that the game itself doesn't seem to match up in quality with it at all. That's a real shame.
The Cheetahmen Theme from Action 52 for NES is also famous for being "too good for this unfinished buggy mess"
its not obnoxiously bad...its a solid 6/10 but it does have the best OST of the series
I played this game with:
-Ultimate armor
-Easy mode
-Rookie hunter mode
-Stage order guides
Even with all those combined. I still had a terrible time with it and I HATE this game
Yes. Getting all of the hunter medals for this game was horrific! I did it along with X7!
I used to play this on the GameCube collection, and if X7 wasn't a thing, this would've easily been the worst X game
Hope you suffer.
Also, I forgot to say: thanks! haha.
Retropolis Zone Well... at least you say more than Alec.
@Mega Buster
MY OPINIONS EXACTLY!
(Also Ultimate Armor's Giga attack is OP)
You took the words out of my mouth. I won't deny this game's various flaws and I can understand why other people would hate it, but damn it, would I be lying if I said I didn't have fun while playing through it.
I personally wouldnt call a bad game, but yeah X4 and X5 are so much better for a technical point.
Mega Buster I get they tried to do replicated bring back Fourth Armor in X5 but they forgot that the main premise of Falcon Armor is ability to fly if they remove that it's just a bland armor imo.
kratosgow342
In that case they should've just brought the Fourth/Force Armor back instead of nerfing down the Falcon Armor to the point where it's not even the Falcon Armor anymore!
People don't apply this logic to competitive fighting games even if something is unbalanced. Who's to say that logic may not apply for some?
Clinton Wilcox X8 Probably deserve your attention, it doesn't have any of the bullshit of x6 and x5
X8 is pretty cool. X5 was better than X6 but not by a lot
@@sirmoony5633 I didn't mention X3, nor did anyone else who replied here.
@@clintonwilcox4690 I'll take that back. I'm sorry! :P
HOWEVER
Upon replaying this game **today**, I discovered something that I haven't seen mention of in the sites and videos I've read and watched, which makes me think I'm the first person to discover this???
Basically, *the nightmare effects in levels can be turned off.*
As of posting this comment, I haven't personally tested to see if this holds true for all the nightmare effects, but I discovered that, for instance, upon re-entering Weapon Center (Infinity Mijinion's stage), Amazon Area (Commander Yammark's stage) and Inami Temple (Rainy Turtloid's stage) no longer suffer from that rage-inducing darkness bullshit. Spread the word!
Upon replaying them or the first time?

23:50 if u recieve Alia's call she will tell you that u cant jump on walls bc the ice. But we dont like to get annoyed by her right?
Coming from J's Review and seeing the people in the comments try and defend this game is insane. I swear they don't listen to the actual criticisms of the game and just go "you're bad because you didn't like the level"
So many things are wrong with this game.
Snotnarok
Superb comment there.
I agree but Nightmare mother is challenging. Those 2 cells, faaast movements and the tricky attacks.

Being not as bad as Bubsy 3D,Sonic Boom Rise of lyric as you say far worser games.
X6 just took the fun out and injected frustrating. To me it's like
whaaaaaat ?
A spin off would be better cause the criticism would be scaled down and not following in footsteps of MMX will avoid comparisons with better x games.Look at Clements reactions at this game.
X1 was forgivable maybe even honourable. The glitches were hilarious and revisits caused by game designs philosophy of that time.X1 still handles boss rush better than others game.Dividing them.Music is best .
X1 has flaws but it's still a masterpiece .
Storm eagle joke,Spark mandrill syndrome,Zero having no gameplay role, vile being such a easy boss ,and others
I did enjoy x6 until I got to Gates lab 1 where I used Zero and nightmare mother gave me shivers.
X6 is hard,enjoyable but too chaotic,cheap,unfair.
I know the positives of x6.
1.Improved Rescue System
2.Music
3.Armors being better than x4/x5
4.Gate,HighMax,Nightmare mother :sot of like it was bringing innovation to boss battles
5.Zeros revamped Saber,buster,animations.
You can't deny that this guy is far more digestable than J. At least he knows how to play.
Plot twist: Commander Yammark isn't a girl.
Lumine: FINALLY! A worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
Yeah, don't really care for the story, because it's the same shit each installment.
the story is pretty good in the zero games its really bad in the X games and a huge mess in a lot of areas. im pretty sure X5 was written to lead into the zero games then X6 was while X8 draws direct references to it >.>
Maverick Hunter X and X4 had the best stories out of any of the Megaman games imo
berserkchip Not really.
J Except it's not?
Man i played the shit out of this game with my friends as a kid and we had so much fun, i never thought it was bad.
Same here. I thought you were SUPPOSED to pick up Ultimate Armor and Nova Strike everything. :o
polaris you thought right!!! you supposed to pick up everything!!! i play this game with mentality of rpg gamer, so 100% completion or 100% completion. i restart the whole game, when i notice i failed to rescue 1 out of all victim.
Honestly i avoided MUCH of the problems as X with the help of Ultimate Armor ;D
Including Gate stages.
have you ever played the megaman Zero series? i honestly feel like, in terms of average quality of the games, the Zero series is the best megaman series. both classic and X have games ranging from great to bad..the Zero games are all great.
@@RetropolisZone your saying you were to mean. J and Clement are far more cruel towards this game
I love the music and both the Blade and Shadow armors are awesome, but everything else is terrible.
For the Nightmare Mother fight, I got myself so used to fighting it on hard mode that my muscle memory gets fucked up every time it does the hesitation thing on normal mode
i always finished the game on hard mode.
ONE HOUR? Holy shit, you are my hero.
Hope you enjoyed, hun.
Your comment and support is very much appreciated! I put a lot of work and hours into these X4 to X6 videos, so I'm glad they're paying off. :)
I haven't watched this video yet, but after the long wait all I can say is...
OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY
MaverickHunterLuneth You're a maverick hunter?
I never wanna receive a comment again about how I think X6 is a bad game because I suck it at or whatever. I completely decimated this game and stand by it:
ruclips.net/video/QbZhtN11le8/видео.html
Megaman X6 is difficult the way passing a kidney stone is difficult. It's not fun or interesting, you're just in pain and relieved when it's finally passed because the experience is behind you
53:13
“I don’t have much noteworthy to say about this portion…”
53:17
“…EXCEPT FOR THE FUCKING GLARING BULLSHIT THAT X IN HIS SHADOW ARMOR CANNOT COMPLETE THE STAGE WITHOUT SPECIFIC PARTS!”
I can’t help but laugh at this rant!
You deserve way more subscribers. The content you make is simply outstanding!
Thank you very much! Let's hope I can get more. :)
indepth review
1 hour
what?
Blade Armor destroys High Max too. You have to be really close but the charged saber attack safely hits him through his barrier and stuns him for you to hit him with a special weapon. It basically turns the fight into Spark Mandrill 2 with how easy it becomes when you realize it.

Actually you can beat that part with ultimate X without the jumper ability, it's just REALLY annoying and precise.
Ultimate X is only playable with a cheat code. Tell me one person who is going to know that cheat code on their first play through without googling it
I personally like playing X6, but only as Black Armor Zero. I like abusing the Guard Shell exploit and the Ensuizan invincibility glitch.
And it gets worse... In X7.. Prepare your sanity for that, man.
Leon Tekashi XD yeah
Baylen in your opinion. I had fun
Still is bad level design tho
At least x8 is pretty good
BURN TO THE GROUND!
These are the in depth reviews that I love, I wish more people did reviews like this
I agree with almost everything you say in this review, and yet ironically, whenever I'm in the mood to play a Megaman X game, I often like to reach for this one. The two biggest reasons why:
1) As you said, the music in almost every stage is quite good.
Somehow overlooked this comment. Thank you for watching all of my X videos. I hope you got something out of it. :)
Regarding the extreme variance in the stage's difficulties, Megamam & Bass made it absolutely better; they put it in a progressive order where one stage unlocks others and so on.
As an X6 fan, I’d like to explain my own reason as to why I love this game, regarding the ending
Beating the game makes me feel validated as a player of the MMX series, I can easily complete X1, X2, X3, X4, and X5 (however that one is a little more challenging)
X6 tests the player’s abilities that were given to them, and asks of them to push them past their limits, like with Zero’s second segment in Gate Stage 2 where you have to spam the wall jump button to survive, the only time that was really useful in the previous game was against the Shadow Devil
There’s also using the Maverick Weapons to your advantage to traverse the stages, instead of just using them to attack (check out my own channel where I did that in Commander Yammark’s second path with no armor X as an example)
This game makes me feel validated as a Mega Man fan, unlike a game such as Mega Man & Bass, another INCREDIBLY hard game in the series
Also, the music slaps, which just makes the experience a whole lot better
23:04 - That actually has happened to me on my first playthrough a few years ago (when I got the X Collection). I am like: "What were they thinking putting a random unnoticeable spike in an ice pit?"
31:30 - Commander Yammark is male. ._.
you probably know this by now, but in the Rockman complete works book, keji inafune stated that mega man and bass for the super famicom was designed to be hard intentionally, with inane even reminding the team that they were going to easy on the player
but for x6, the most he gave it was an apology for it's existence
It's not an alternate timeline, it's just shoddy writing; they really didn't do a good job at planning any of it.
You're fairly specific on the musical aspects. I like you.
58:57 So that's where that song came from. Anybody watched the Sonic Shorts?
Piotr Wojciechowski I knew I heard that song from somewhere
I was trying to figure out where I had heard that from. Thanks, friendo
These criticisms are so incredible and perfect, it blows my mind why I still like this game. There's a certain charm these games bring, that no matter how terrible and irritating some mechanics or stages are, you are somehow forgiving of all of it's mistakes.
This game sucks, but I like it...
Maybe there's something secretly enticing? Who's to say it can't be good for some purpose?
4:40 I was unaware the _[!]_ prompt was for Alia. I thought it was a little warning for upcoming danger. So I've gone an entire childhood without her help for X6.
Commander Yammark is a dude
Not that it changes anything
Tell yammark: *Should i call you mista?*
Doesn’t change anything, but okay 👍
The intro stage song is the most "Ps1" song I ever listen... love it too :)
This entire game feels like _that._
from what megaman game and stage is the song that starts at 0:51 ? it's sooo good
Infinity Mijinion from Mega Man X6.
Any proof? I've tested it for myself and have found no results.
"Hardest" does not equal "worst". X6 is one of my favs. X7 on the other hand...
It equals when the game is garbage. You just have shit taste in games.
Beach Bum Gamer depends on the person, would you rather be bored or frustrated?
everyone...
BURN TO THE GROUND!
(sorry, I had to do it)
When people ask why I didn't think that Mighty No 9 was that bad, I say, "I mean, I made it through X6". I don't think this is the worst game of all time, but I do call it the worst game by a major studio that I have ever played.
So you haven't played Sonic 06?
Infinity Mijinion's theme made the lives lost bearable.
28:40 'ish - I was just drinking when you talked about it and I got the funny mental image of " _It's shooting out of all it's orifices!_ "
The two most common things us who played X6 experienced:
* Utter contempt for the red donuts
* Accidentally killing ourselves as Zero in Infinity Mijinion's stage with the Up + Saber move.
Yeah, this game is a mess and broken as hell, but I would rather play this game then fuckin' Mighty No. 9.
(Replaying Mega Man X6 in X Legacy Collection)
Oh god, why do I say this crap and it ends up aging poorly!?
Flame Wizard, *sigh*
how come everyone hates this game? I actually really like this game.
You're on a 1 hour and 8 minutes long review answering exactly that question,
Retropolis Zone i ended up playing this game more then X5, so...
Not everybody will have the same experience as you.
Retropolis Zone i can see, well at least this was MILES better than X7
I haven't played X7 yet, so I can't speak on that.
Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with the series, but I don't care; I think 6 is an overall better package than 5. The parts system was vastly improved, you weren't bogged down by the doomsday clock, the reploid rescue system fit better (though I will admit, having them permanently disappear if you lose one is a bit shit.)
People gripe about the story, but aside from some missed opportunities (Gate's entire gimmick is resurrecting dead mavericks!
Maybe this could've been reprimanded if X-could charge his saber swings or fire of a blade beam without the need for the Blade Armor (which doesn't even use the saber button, but Up + a charged shot), but as it is, it's so inferior to the X-Buster that it isn't worth using save for the few situations where it can be useful, in which case you could just switch to Zero and use his far superior saber and viable buster.
longest review i've seen since Johnnys 06 review 0_o
Spassti
What about Clement's 06 review?
***** fuck i forgot about that :0
Always fucking sonic 06...
I loved this game on the PS2 when I was like 8 and I love it today
I do accept all those flaws but it's fun to replay it from time to time
This should be titled as Megaman X Fustration
Somehow I didn't do too bad playing this. I just hated the Blaze Heatnix, Blizzard Wolfang and Gate stages
*AND RECYCLE LAB*
I wanted you to review this so bad because nobody else talks about the Zero mid air glide. Worst ability ever. Especially when hanging. Ugh.
25:16 whats the song that's playing?
Sigma 1st (from X6, of course)
1:00:43 you forgot to mention that what just happened here means unavoidable death, and sometimes, if it happens at the beginning of the ice dropping cycle, you may be there waiting for a LOOONG time until the block that kills you decides to spawn.
This and another reason is why I don't understand why you said that this is one of the better stages. On the next section, where there's rows of ice blocks falling with one opening for you to slip through, one would think that this gap is safe, and you can't possibly know that if you don't jump, an ice block will instantly materialize to fill the gap and, yeah, kill you.
6:04: "X1-X4 all had these *huge* monstrosities for intro stage bosses that turned out to be absolute babies once you started fighting them."
Um, what about the fight with Vile made you think he was a baby. I mean yes, it's basically a scripted sequence because you can't beat him, but that just proves my point. And what about the Sigma head from X5?
Maybe he meant X2~5?
55:44 when I hear my upstairs neighbor making godamn loud noises again for the gazillionth time.
Great analysis. I found some new bad stuff in this game that I did not realize back in the day.
Mega Man x7 is in the corner now. Although it's not so artificially difficult as x6, bad design choices are everywhere. At least x8 correct almost every one. I really hope you got some fun playing them. :)
Thanks! I do plan to get to X7 and X8 but not soon.
I literally found a copy of this game in the trash.
Where it belongs
Along with x7
