      @@jewulo only a small proportion of a population is capitalist. The majority are workers. In a democracy, the interests of workers would be primary in terms of policy. So capital has to corrupt the democratic system in order to sustain its interests. The interests of capital, namely freedom of capital, is not congruent with freedom and democracy.
      Anyone who thinks the right wing (capital) really stands for freedom and democracy, doesn’t understand the nature of private capital. The freedom the right wing cares about is freedom of capital to do what it wants and go where it wants. But for that to happen, it has to rely on corruption and propaganda when the majority of a population are workers rather than capitalists. Capital wouldn’t get what it wants in an uncorrupted democracy, and it certainly doesn’t want workers to have freedom. In an actual democracy, there’d be far less private ownership of capital, assuming it wasn’t abolished all together.

At least that's why I think Mr. Stewart does these things is cause 1. it's NOT always hot air even if you think it is and 2. many people simply stop listening when they hear something that betrays their expectations. It doesn't make for much of anything but a circle jerk. Thankfully I don't get that at all w/ the interviews I've seen from Jon Stewart. He's had hot air blown at him for sure, but his composure gives the statement of humility and purpose. One of my new fav interviewers!

    Imagine if getting caught robbing a bank only came with a small fine. And, most banks had security that was easy to fool and guards easy to pay off. That's the world the corporations and super rich live in. It costs them more NOT to rob.

    • @jaybockstoce
      @jaybockstoce 2 года назад +8

      It's nothing more than "pay to play". If you want to do things your way, you'll have to cough up some dough to do so. But the sky's the limit, if you have the funds to make it happen. Example: A speeding ticket can be viewed (through a wealthy persons eyes) as a "go fast license fee". Worried about losing your license? Just donate to a cause or campaign that's close to the judges heart and watch those 'points' disappear. The amount of money required to make something like this happen is pocket change to the wealthy. Pay to play.

    It's so telling that when you ask a guy like this if he can imagine a *financial system* better than a toothless SEC and a dangerously criminal finance industry his first response is that he "believes in American democracy". Dude, everyone asking for a fairer financial system believes in American democracy; that's the whole dang point. If you believe in American democracy, maybe you ought to have an answer when you're directly asked to imagine an alternative to plutocracy.

      The SEC is only toothless during republican administrations. They defund it so it cant function. When the democrats take over they fund it as much as they can and they are playing catch up. Then republicans come in again when we get fat and happy and greedy and the cycle repeats. Go ahead and tell me Im wrong or a liberal or whatever but ask yourself this, why is there always a financial crash under republican administrations?

    • @IRLC
      @IRLC 2 года назад +60

      @@boristheamerican2938 To think that any financial crash is purely the outcome of a few years during a single presidency is completely absurd. To think that the sitting president has meaningful sway over what the Fed does is absurd.
      Learn about the longterm debt cycle, read about how the banks were over-lending mortgages for the better part of a decade before 2008, just please wake up and realize we live in the same messed up financial system all year, every year.
      Politicians want to make this a partisan issue so they point to "who was currently in charge" and will swap between president and congress depending on which helps the narrative. It's all coincidence, the whole thing is messed up down to the very money the FED and banks are constantly printing into existence via debt vehicles.
