      Ruben Torres you will be very happy with that size room.
      I am in a room just over 6000 cubic feet. It is a great sub with very clean output. Very happy.

    It also depends on music versus movies. With music, the thump in the chest effect is less important than smoothness of the bass. So going quadruple might make sense with music. In movies, to feel the earthquake shake your organs will be possible with bigger subs.

      EXCELLENT point about music! Seriously, completely spaced the thought.

    have you tried those subs in the corners? It is a position which tends to even out modes naturally, which always helps. Also, have you ever considered a sealed sub? I have used the TRIADS extensively and they are spectacular. Good video, thanks.

    Since were all thinking "BigBoy" bass here. Can you do a video on acoustic treatment for small rooms?
    Would you and your wife consider adding bass traps to the corners and absorption panels between you and the speakers with diffusors in other areas? I'v heard it improves everything!!!

  • @TaylorMadeTheater
    @TaylorMadeTheater 6 лет назад

    Nice! I've been pondering this topic. For doing Quads! I think I will set different crossovers per pair of subs to get better response from the separation. Below 100 hz for PB-2000s in the back and 180 hz crossover on dual SB-2000s up front for good reference bass. Maybe patch in the other channels, Connecting the sub nearest to each speaker for Surround subs+LFE?

    Good video, I'm at same fork in the road. Do I stack 4 pb2000pros in a line array for my front stage. Or move the 2 that I have for rear subs and place 2 ultra's for the front. *not kidding.

    • @Subwoofer101

      I'd take dual PB 16 Ultras over 4 PB 4000's. You'll get more impact out of the Ultras.

    2+ years with dual PB-1000's in a condo. I do get to let listen anywhere near reference level. But I think Dual PB-2000's would be better able to fill My space. But hearing true deep bass for 1st. time at home was fantastic. SVS Nuff SAID.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 лет назад

      Yeah, for your situation, the PB-2000's would probably be the biggest I would go. Maybe the PB-12 Plus for the adjustability, but if you already have to run the subwoofer gain lower for the neighbors, not much point in a bigger amp. You do get improved depth with the PB-2000's, so I think that would be a logical choice. But it's not like the PB-1000's are disappointing, those subs could easily get you evicted. Thanks for the comment Toby!

    I just went from 1 PB-1000 to 1 PB-2000 as i got it for same price as the 1000 and what a difference. Cannot wait to get another 2000. The extra 200W RMS and cabinet/driver size rocks the lounge. 17hz test easily works and rattles the wife's window ornaments in another room.

    Very informative. I'm into quality audio, I just don't have the bank to back it up. I've been lucky to get my hands on free broken gear and fix it up myself. I got a paradigm ultra cube 10 for free, replaced the capacitors on the amp, and it works like new. I also consider myself lucky to own a pair of Klipsch speakers. Your videos have helped me understand the world of audio and I'm thankful for them! Keep it up!

    great video i run 4 definitive technology subwoofers two sc8000 in the front and two supercube 2 subs in the rear it works great the bass is really filling. the thing about 4 subs is you need the proper room to run them properly. on my yamaha av receiver it has front and rear. i agree on a single sub i have done that before and i didn't like it duels are definitely better. 4 subs are fantastic but if you can't afford 4subs get 2 subs at least.

    Great Video. Will the sealed sb13 or sb4000 give me the headroom and pressure playing loaded. I have a home recording studio in which I produce EDM music to hip-hop. Lots of 808 bass in music. My room is 10 x 12, with 9 foot ceiling is heavily treated.
    Which is better for my environment, sealed or ported subs. They will be playing with 12inch coaxial monitors.
    What's your thought on this application?

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 лет назад

      First off, I'm thrilled that those mixing music are interested in deep bass. I think it gives a better picture of what's possible, and deep bass capable subs give you good "resolution" of that picture.
      I personally like ported subs, but I go into more detail here:
      www.subwoofer101.com/ported-vs-sealed/
      I would prioritize dual subwoofers, even though your room is relatively small. It does depend on what you're using to run the subs. With an AVR like I'm familiar with, room correction will resolve increased room gain, but if you don't have that, you may need to resolve it yourself using a MiniDSP 2x4 or something similar, which would require a microphone and software to measure the room, like Room EQ Wizard (free, thankfully).
      Any of the subs from "The List" should give you ample headroom and all of the depth you can get. I would go dual and keep them matched. www.subwoofer101.com/best-subwoofers/
      What are you using to run the subs? Will you have a way to adjust timing/distance?

  • @lesterd6480
    @lesterd6480 6 лет назад

    Hi I’d like your opinion. Seems you have tested most of the subs I’m interested in. I’m considering sb2000, sb4000 or pb2000. I know duals are the way to go so if I go sb2000 it will be dual from the start but if I choose the sb4000 or pb2000 it will be single then eventually dual. But I haven’t heard a comparison between the subs so I was wondering what your recommendation would be. Oh btw I would be using for movies gaming & music.
    Thanks!!!

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 лет назад

      Not hard for me. PB-2000's, especially if movies are a priority. $1,500 if you go duals, and if you go factory direct you can upgrade within a year if you feel the need.
      Here's my write-up on ported vs sealed: www.subwoofer101.com/ported-vs-sealed/
      I like ported the most. Gobs of headroom, very dynamic, and comfortable. I can listen all day.
      If it's no trouble, please follow my affiliate link, which is factory direct ensuring the ability to trade up within a year: sub101.link/PB-2000

    I wonder if SVS is going to update the 1000 series line of subwoofers in the near future.
    Great subs but they feel a bit dated overall. Pretty ugly, although I like the cloth grill over a metal one (magnetic would be nice)
    Also the competition is slowly catching up in that price range (RSL Speedwoofer 10S)
    If they do, I would like to see a 350-400watt amp with slightly better dynamics and midbass performance :P

      I thought about this long and hard as the D.IY Ultimax look the business. But to get as low as pb400 the box has to be huge. Too big for my room and i'd say most rooms. Good idea though.

    HSU VTF-15H MK2 vs SVS pb4000 ON PAPER?

    • @mhbernheim
      @mhbernheim 6 лет назад

      Too big... thats why id like to hear about comparing the hsu and the svs as the reviewer has reviewed them
      Both individually but never side to side

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 лет назад

      Always seems to be an anti SVS contingent around here. If I thought SVS was overpriced in any way, they wouldn't be on The List. Period.
      HSU makes a quality sub, otherwise they wouldn't be on The List, and when I eventually hear the Monoprice, they will probably make the list too, but I need to hear them in action before that happens. I'm an affiliate for Monoprice, but I still want to hear them before I put them on The List of subs I would personally consider buying and therefore recommend. I wouldn't steer you away though, I do think they belong in the conversation.
      As far as the PB-4000 vs the VTF-15, yes I have the older MK1, and the newer MK2 does have more power. That said, the PB-4000 has double the power of the newer MK2. You also have a better appearance, more control options like remote control (very handy) and the app, which can allow you to shape the sound to any response profile you like. If you like the response curve of a different sub, you can easily match that curve. Yes, you can also do that with a Mini DSP 2x4 and about 8-35 hours of learning curve, but the SVS app is SUPER simple in comparison.
      You also get a vastly superior shipping and return policy with SVS, longer standard warranty on the amp, which is usually the most expensive and the most failure prone for any brand (5 years vs 2, with an option to extend on the HSU) and the ability to upgrade to the PB-16 Ultra within a year, if you so desired.
      I'm honestly not trying to pick on HSU, but these differences do matter in practice. If you didn't like dual VTF-15's, that's a $692 loss, as I understand it. Buyer pays all shipping charges with HSU. If you didn't like the PB-4000's, which are truck freight shipped on a pallet, you still pay $0 in shipping, even if you return them. When buying a product you've never heard, this can make a real difference. It's my biggest hang up with HSU.
      I do like the increased power, and I think people get caught up in the wrong numbers. Very few people will utilize the Max SPL values of their subs, and if they do, they need new subs. I would never buy based on Max SPL alone. I never maxed dual PB-1000's in practice, so why get bigger subs? As you go up in power, it's the energy of the bass that's different. At the same loudness, you get more of a feeling in your chest. The bass has more "grip" and precision. The sound has more weight to it. That's why I prefer 2 more powerful subs vs 4 less powerful subs.
      So as the price increases with any of the subs in this discussion, the difference is commensurate. The PB-4000 and PB-16 Ultra are the most full featured subs on the market that can actually deliver true depth, with an outstanding reputation in sound quality and customer service. They are not the cheapest possible subs out there, but they are absolutely value rich.
      If you want the cheapest subs, you trade some value, either in appearance, power, feature set, shipping, warranty, etc... and that's true of most things. The best of anything is not usually the cheapest possible option.
      FWIW, I've never had a problem getting a return email from SVS, and they are the only company aside from LG and Denon who I can say the same about. That has value too.
      This might be cheaper than that, more dB's here than there, it's all relative. What you get with the VTF-15 is a good value overall. What you get with the PB-4000 is a good value overall. It's a fairly lopsided comparison, and you'll find staunch supporters for both. I prefer the PB-4000 over the VTF-15, but considering the price difference that shouldn't be a surprise. I also prefer the PB-16 Ultra over the PB-4000, which also shouldn't be a surprise.
      Matching dual subs are the way I would go, regardless of brand. Split your budget for duals, and get the best you can afford while still getting the options and features you care about. I think that is universally good advice.

    • @Subwoofer101
      @Subwoofer101  6 лет назад

      If you're looking at Max SPL only, then yes. But there's more to it than max SPL. ruclips.net/video/HTLPZ8wG8k4/видео.html
      That said, the VTF-15 is truly a quality sub, or it wouldn't be on "The List": www.subwoofer101.com/best-subwoofers/
      SVS offers more in terms of warranty, free shipping even if you return it, 1 year trade up if you go factory direct, and upward mobility with several subs you can upgrade to (PB-12 Plus, PC-12 Plus, PB-13 Ultra, PB-4000, PC-4000, and PB-16 Ultra). The VTF-15 offers more in Max SPL, and more adjust-ability. The PB-2000's are plug and play, no port tuning options.
      Beyond that, I suspect the PB-2000's might "sound" a little deeper. Can't really determine that for sure, as I only have 1 VTF-15 that I bought years ago. Having only heard a single, I haven't truly "heard" the VTF-15. But the response curves I've seen publicly and my own measurements suggest a slightly "deeper" sound from the PB-2000's.
      For sure, they are close competitors, with dedicated fans on both sides. Neither would disappoint.

    I've also tried miss matching subs. It sounds terrible, I'm running dual 10" 250 watt subs and was doing so before I found your channel. Two subs kick ass over a single. Hands down. I'm curious to know why you aren't running floor standing speakers for the fronts? To me those look like a set of rear speakers. I'd imagine they would be missing the woofer element of sound so you would be running those subs up around 120hz to fill the gap. . Good channel.

    Hi Ryan, what your talking about only concerns your domestic market, outside the US the cost of SVS products is quite high and here in Australia we don't have the upgrade scheme.
    As you know i have dual PB 2OOO and are more than happy about how they perform. When SVS comes up with a larger center channel speaker then i will replace the other speakers with SVS speakers. SVS products are highly recommended in my opinion and I'm spreading the word here in Australia.
